Amen, to you Sister Sally. I’m 64. I enjoyed Queen when I was younger, but sadly I took them for granted. Today I absolutely LOVE Queen. It’s not a nostalgia trip. I enjoy music of all types and eras. It’s just taken me a long time to realize Queen is the greatest band ever.

Several cups of beer, and other beverages, on the piano with only a couple of sips taken from them during a concert are kinda one of Freddie’s trademarks. Pretty sure he used beer just to wet his whistle cuz he also wanted tea with honey and water on the piano during concerts too. Sometimes he had glasses of champagne on the piano. I only saw Queen in concert a few times but I don’t remember Freddie ever emptying a cup of anything by drinking it, although he sometimes would toss water into the crowd or all over his own head when it got really hot. But especially given the amount of energy Freddie used in concert, I don’t think there’s any way he would get drunk from drinking a bunch of sips of beer while performing. And he certainly did not show any signs of being drunk in that concert. Thanks for doing Queen reactions!
@anne-mariesindruprix47922 жыл бұрын
It is tea with honey.
@leeannsheridannicolai1806 Жыл бұрын
Thank You for clearing that up! The only thing I DON'T like about the reactions to the live performances is that almost ALL youngsters refer to Freddy being drunk, when clearly he's not.
@jazzlefettie Жыл бұрын
@@leeannsheridannicolai1806 It is does amazing how many people comment on ‘all the beer’ on the piano and until someone corrects them, they think Freddie was really boozing it up during concerts. I’ve read that when Queen first started, Freddie didn’t drink alcohol, smoke, or do any drugs due to his strict upbringing. But that gradually changed and eventually Freddie smoked and had vodka shots before, and sometimes during, concerts, along with the occasional beer. I’ve also read that cocaine was often involved too. And he liked to have champagne while in the studio, especially to celebrate when they were about to finish recording a song. And they say that the very shy bass player, John Deacon, drank the most alcohol of the 4 of them for concerts, and that he had a rather well-equipped traveling bar just off stage that he regularly frequented to calm his nerves. But out of the hundreds and hundreds of live performances, Freddie was visibly under the influence only a couple of times, which truly amazes me, all things considered. Compared to what many other bands were doing during the ‘70’s and ‘80’s, what Freddie consumed was close to nothing, but younger people don’t realize that cuz, I guess, tv and movies make them think that if a rock star drank or did drugs, they were useless and could not function as a live act musician, when the truth is that many of them did that (or do that) stuff just so they could (or can) function as a live performer, on stage, in front of tens of thousands of people. Freddie put a lot of pressure on himself to be as close to perfect as possible. I am not advocating drug use, but I can understand why he used them, under the circumstances. As Freddie’s career developed, and he learned more about how to keep his voice ready for the hours and hours of intense use while rehearsing and performing, especially while on tour, Freddie increased the amount of water he consumed and he always had tea with honey available on his piano. I think younger people simply see all of the somewhat random looking cups on the piano and they jump to the mistaken conclusion that Freddie performed drunk. They don’t realize what life was like before bottled water was available everywhere. Plus, the easy-to-take anti-anxiety and anti-depression meds in wide use today were not even available back then, either. And many also don’t realize that the concert or arena sponsors wanted lots of their cups with logos on stage as product placement/advertising (for example, Heineken at the ‘81 Montreal concert and Pepsi at Live Aid in ‘85.) As a baby boomer, I was at concerts where performers were occasionally too messed up from drugs to perform the entire set list. But I saw Freddie in concert a couple of times in SRO Queen concerts in the late ‘70’s/early ‘80’s, and each band member performed incredibly well and did not seem under the influence at all. In the presence of Queen, it never even occurred to me to wonder whether they were sober or what was in the cups on the piano. In fact, I don’t think I even noticed the cups on the piano-I was too caught up in their music and how incredible the performance was. I’m simply grateful that Freddie existed and that he shared his musical gifts with the world in my lifetime!

There is one performance in 1976 i think or 79 where he was drunk and he absolutely nailed Bohemian Rhapsody with alternate phrasings, proving that even when drunk he knew the limits of his voice in any situation.

I love this Song so much, Dr. Brian May wrote this but Freddie gave another meaning when he's singing it, and he sings it beautifully💛 bless him🌹. yes Queen is just simply Talented, they were so clever in that stage you can see from the very beginning while Dr.Bri playing the piano, he's guitar was just on his lap ready for his guitar solo and Freddie's singing and Hitting those high notes while running down on stairs. Just clever and smoothly flows together. Pure talent! Pure 4 genius in one stage!🤟👑

With show time approaching, towels and drinks for the band’s refreshment on stage would now be strategically placed: water and beer for Fred, beer for Brian and Roger and the Backstage Bar for John, comprising water, beer, soft drinks, wine and whatever spirit or cocktail he fancied at the time: Southern Comfort, vodka or tequila. - Peter Hince (aka Ratty), Fred’s and John’s roadie and head of Queen’s crew.

I get chills every time I hear this song. Takes me back over 40 years to when I got to hear this live, in person, at Madison Square Garden in September 1980. Great song that didn't get a lot of airplay, there were a few others on this album that did. It's fitting this was the last cut on the record. For future reference Queen was a group who every member, Freddie, Brian, Roger and John, each wrote at least one number 1 hit song.

You obviously love music. I do too. FYI Queen's members were equally talented in their contributions. Each of the four members all wrote at least one #1 hit. If you Google Queen's hits--look at the writer. Their portfolio is awesome and many of these songs are used in commercials today. "Who Wants to Live Forever?" was written for the movie "The Immortal". Queen also wrote the score for "Flash Gordon" movie. Exquisite talent. Be well. I hope you see this.

He's doing this drunk, you said, probably not drunk, just oiling the vocal chords. It's a well known fact that before the Live Aid concert, Freddie had a sore throat, but several large vodkas back stage before he went on, sustained him through the 20 min set. Although there is alcohol on the piano, there is also lemon water, again for the vocal chords, this is what he throws over the crowd at the beginning of Under Pressure live at Wembley. Great reaction as always my friend, just wish you'd put more content on YT.

One of my favourites is fat bottomed girls. Sorry I don't go on twitter or any social media. I only comment on KZbin.
