My recollection is the first Analogue NT (not the FPGA Analogue NT mini) was the slot and primarily the flaps were scratching the cartridges upon removal. Owners complained about their expensive/rare cartridges being damaged. Analogue created a solution and sent out free of charge which was a very thin clear plastic piece that you would insert into the Analogue NT slot and your cartridges would then pass thru it instead of touching the slot/flaps. Analogue continued to “improve” the slot/flaps on future Analogue NT releases to resolve this issue all the way to the Analogue NT mini Noir. I believe this is the improvement Analogue is talking about. These improvements may have caused the slot itself to increase in size or the actual contact of the console vs cartridges over these releases now causing the floppy or wobbly carts being seen in these vids. I have 3 revisions of Analogue NT/mini NT consoles including the original Analogue NT with the clear pieces Analogue sent out. I have not contacted Analogue about this history or their improvements claim so I could be completely wrong about their statements on the subject.

An idea, if there is space between the console PCB and the bottom of the cartridge shell when it is fully inserted I wonder if a small rubber spacer on either side of the slot cut to the right height and length might help give the right platform for the cartridge to wobble less when in the slot. It wouldn't be a perfect solution but at least wouldn't be seen compared to modifying the slot flaps or something else. Right now it seems like the cart PCB and the slot are the only things holding things up right now and with NES carts being so tall it makes a taller lever to allow wobble.

I thought the slot was intentionally made looser because previous versions of the NT Mini (and the original full size NT) was scratching customers game cartridges badly. I’d much rather have a loose game slot that doesn’t affect game play at all than a bunch of scratched cartridges... I don’t understand why everyone is so upset by this. What dumbass is sitting around wiggling their game back and forth while they are playing? Who does this actually cause any problem(s) for!? I noticed it right away but it’s not an issue at all, nor will it ever be. Is it ideal? No, but there is not much that can be done after the fact other than not bouncing your game around intentionally while playing. Not that there will ever be a next time (since this was the final run), Analogue could make the slot tighter to fit the cartridges and avoid the scratching issue altogether by utilizing a couple of silicone strips along the edges of the slot flaps! ;)

I like their stuff, but they can certainly over promise and under deliver, and then weasel their way out by their very careful choice of words. Their reason for keeping the slot loose is bullshit. Is the aluminium shell identical to the last version? Maybe they had a bunch of shells left over and they could only partially correct the issue by making a better connector and/or it was too expensive to redesign a new shell with a tighter slot. MUCH cheaper to upgrade the connector on the PCB to be tighter. My nt and sg are not getting the firmware updates for fixes for issues/bugs that have now been there for like a year. And I’m pissed at how they handled their Pocket launch. They are FAR from perfect.
