I purchased one of these a few weeks ago. I absolutely think it’s worth it with the jailbreak. I have this hooked up to an LG oled and Sony Trinitron CRT. They both look fantastic. Overall I prefer the Oled but it’s fun to play over component on my Trinitron for that nostalgic kick.

@@SuperNicktendo I really like my CRT. Mines a 36” beast that takes you and a few dudes to move. I swear that I’m going to get rid of it every time I’m forced to move it. Then I lovingly dust it off and polish it up, connect my consoles back up to it via component and I’m once again enamored with its beauty. There really is nothing like it. I just wish my light guns worked with it. It’s a KV-36XBR400. I think Oleds need to become more available in the 24-40 inch range. I’d really like one for my office but I don’t like sitting 2 feet away from a 55 inch screen.

My friend! I have a Noir and use an NTT Datapad with the unit. You can make a 1:1 SNES to NES controller cable patch - since the wiring is exact. The voltage is exact too! I made my own, I use SNES controllers on my NT Noir. It's absolutely incredible. Raphnet also makes an SNES to NES adaptor. The Coleco and Intellivision use the 0-9 button mapping, which is why anyone on earth would even own or buy an NTT Data Pad for SNES (I did because I love Intellivision). Anyways, to cut my comment shorter - you 1,000% can use an SNES controller on your NT Noir and it's absolutely amazing. Console5 sells allt he parts you need to make your own cable and that might run you about $12. Raphnet sells theirs for $30 on ebay.

I'd love to have something like this, but I can't fathom why they charged more for this than for the Mega NT and Super NT combined. You'd think an FPGA NES would be CHEAPER if anything. 🤷♂️ Hopefully Analogue will offer a budget reasonable fpga nes in the future.
@SuperNicktendo3 жыл бұрын
Just the overall build I think is the primary reason. When you have to mill a solid block of aluminum, things get expensive. I'm sure they could have reduced cost, but at the same time, there was a market for a boutique system like this so why not. Hopefully they make one like the Super NT and Mega SG since it appears they finally nailed down a production line that keeps the costs low.
@jcchaconjr3 жыл бұрын
A couple of reasons, IMHO - unlike the SuperNT and Mega SG, the NT’s case is aluminum. From the looks of it, is part milled, and also sandblasted for a textured finish. The other reason is that it has a built in DAC, which obviously adds to the cost as well. Can’t say if those two things alone add up to $300, but the DAC alone as a stand-alone is almost $100.
@TheLastLineLive3 жыл бұрын
@@jcchaconjr that makes total sense. Would be cool if they did a $200 one that is more budget friendly.

I was fortunate to purchase one as soon as the preorder went up. For me, I’ve gotten more enjoyment out of playing it on my Sony WEGA TV vthrough the analog output via component. What a game-changer! So much so, that I purchased their DAC to use on the SuperNT and MegaSG that I also own. Totally amazing, and very conparable to my original Model 2 Genesis via HD-RetroVision cables. You share the opinion of other content creators who struggled over even producing a video on this product, considering that by the time everyone got their hands on one, you could no longer get it. Analogue has promised more stock of the SuperNT, MegaSG, and DAC. You can bet, however, that they are super busy with their Pocket and TG-16 consoles.

Audio R is on the left side, and audio L on the right? Weird. I kinda like that filter that you're using on SMB3. You do what I do when starting a new line. Start off loud and then get quiet as you go along. I have to manually adjust the volume of my voice to balance it all out. It's hard to maintain the same volume in your voice while speaking. Cool video. I'm actually very happy with my Retron 5 and I prefer playing retro games on modern TVs cuz they look so clean and crisp. Especially the Genesis!
@SuperNicktendo3 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's the camera doing that. Should be gone by the next video since I'll be using a different recorder that doesn't automatically level the volume like that. As much as I tried to normalize the peaks, it's still obvious.

Analogue dropped one more "final" batch of the Noir yesterday along with some Super NTs. I went for a Super NT and I kinda impulse-bought a Noir. Really appreciate this review, especially the comparisons. The Noir is definitely not for everyone at that price, but nothing else on the market really matches everything it does. I do think they could print money with a functionally-equivalent cheaper version (i.e., ditch the aluminum case which adds a lot to the cost). Analogue makes excellent clones but I don't understand some of their decisions. Anyway, thanks for a very informative review and subscribed!

@jcchaconjr3 жыл бұрын
Sadly, I don’t think they ever will (they did advertise “one last run”) - but hey, if you can get it at $600 like some of those sold listings shown, I’d say it’s probably worth it. I wouldn’t pay more than that though. That being said, there are rumors that they MIGHT release a version of the NT that doesn’t include the built in DAC, but the DAC is available as a separate product for their other consoles, and a new NT would likely be designed to use that. EDIT: Oh, if they DID release a budget friendlier NT, it would surely also ditch the aluminum case.

The analogue put a slight delay on the left channel, to create a stereo sound. As well, the analogues sound is too compressed, so it doesn't sound as dynamic.
@SuperNicktendo3 жыл бұрын
That's good to know. I'm not big into sound so I wasn't exactly sure how they did it
@YoursInYeshua3 жыл бұрын
@@SuperNicktendo Many years of audio recording led me to pick up on that right away. The delay is extremely minimal, to keep volume up and to keep it clear, but it is there. I appreciated the back to back samples you gave. The compression is noticed, since the sound sounds squashed and the sustain of the notes are different. Great video. I was lucky enough to pick one up and really like it. I have an AVS as well but to be honest it’s hard to get the carts out of it (too tight) and I was scared I’d break one so decided to upgrade to the Mini noir. The cart wobble that people talk about is a non issue for me - it’s only ever an issue if you get up and shake the cart in the system. Why would you do that? To solve that would people really foresake the chance to play FDS?

First because its available but mostly because There is no reason there 8 bit console should cost more then there 16 bit consoles other then they know they can get away with it for now, I have the mega sg so i get the high quality they do have and i would love to buy the super nt but that NT Noir price is a joke and i cant wait until the market is not so cornered and theres more FPGA consoles choices soon maybe Retro might make an SNES fpga console of there own

@RetroSho3 жыл бұрын
This comment makes no sense at all. If these consoles are going head-to-head, NT Mini Noir wins by a long shot from features alone. Think what you want about price, but not everyone has the same issue purchasing stuff as others. As a person who owns both, the Noir shines above the AVS and all other NES consoles out there, when all of it's features are considered. Now what people should hope for is a much cheaper NES console from Analogue, even if it means having many (JB) Noir features stripped from it. BTW, the person who designed the RetroUSB AVS only really likes the NES console, so don't expect a SNES from him any time soon, if ever.
@johndavey69943 жыл бұрын
@Sho Your response to my comment makes even less sense. So what features does the NT Mini Noir have that the Super NT doesnt have that is worth an extra $300???? For someone who has both consoles you brought absolutely nothing to this conversation other then to say the $500 console has better features then the $190 console and go on to mention not one of these features and of course who could forget that insightful basics of capitalism you enlightened us with, I never knew that we live in a world were some people have no issues buying over priced stuff. So if the NT Mini Nori is $1000 its still better or even $10,000 price doesnt matter. BTW thats a little bit of sarcasm at the end dont want to confuse you
@RetroSho3 жыл бұрын
@@johndavey6994 It's quite alright, I see that sarcasm and hint of resentment coming from ya. It was pretty cute, but it still misses the issue that not everyone has an issue affording stuff. Something is not automatically better because it has a lower price point. Also I was comparing the AVS and the Noir, not the Noir and the Super NT. Make sure you read next time instead of going on a tangent lol. Here are a couple of differences between the AVS, and the Noir (again, not the Super NT). For one, the AVS has a limited color palette choice -- if you have the older AVS build, you only have a choice of about 4 palettes, vs the Noir and it's endless amount of choices (well over 200+). You can set a custom palette with the AVS with it's newer beta firmware, but you can only choose one and it breaks Game Genie functionality, something that has been an issue for months with the console. The second issue is that PAL support on the AVS has been broken for years, while it's solid on the Noir sans a few issues with specific games. 3rd is the lack of support for resolution -- the AVS is 720p ONLY, while on the Noir, you can set 720p, 1080p, and even 480p, along with it's PAL resolutions, and even scale the image larger or smaller to taste. There's also the lack of any customizable UI features, lack of customizable audio features, lack of dual analog and digital output, microphone input, USB port to charge your controller, lack of an internal controller test, music player, and finally a lack of a jailbreak and the ability to play a large number of other consoles via core loading. These are all things on the Noir that isn't on the AVS. So no, AVS is not the best. However, it still remains to be an affordable option, until such a time Analogue miniaturizes the Noir and sells it in a smaller, more affordable form factor.

what about the NES port ? wobbling cartridges ... UNACCEPTABLE for the price ! But yeah : you bought a very expensive NES so.. you have good taste, you are the best, bla bla bla...
