I honestly consider the earlier months of Anarcho-Syndicalist Catalonian existence to be such a uniquely hopeful, yet momentary blip of human coexistence and solidarity in an age where oppression appeared infallible and insurmountable. Which I suppose in the case of the factionalised, Soviet influenced Republic, and Anarchist Catalonia, it was. No doubt part of the blame for the failure of both can be put onto the lack of French/British support for the Republicans, combining with the Stalinist factions limiting the revolution under Soviet influence, essentially ensuring that the Catalonian blip of a genuine strive towards equality and liberty(admittedly soured with potentially justifiable anger towards the wealthy and powerful, but resulting in scores of deaths)served as an interregnum, sealing the fate of the region, and Spain generally, under Fascist dictatorship. And in it’s modern sense, semi-enslavement to capitalist neoliberalism paired with a parliament that is centralised, completely inefficient, and divided into fragments. Which I suppose is a horrible metaphor for Spain as a nation state, more generally speaking. In regards to Spain, I still hold out a little hope. Especially with the increasing desire for Catalonian independence showcasing the continued oppressive flaws of Spain, and revitalising the hopes and feelings stirred in Catalonians amongst the initial Barcelona rising of the SCW. I still almost feel hopeful for the future. I don’t know why. I mean, if the last 150 years of equalitarian, Marxist, Anarchist, and Socialist uprisings and suppressions are anything to go by, I really shouldn’t be. But whatever. Not really sure why I posted this comment on an isp meme video

I agree, it was a remarkable episode. Though it's often glossed over rather optimistically (in particular, the collapse of industrial production in Catalonia tends to be looked over). In particular, you might be interested in this overview of the rather tyrannical and counterproductive nature of the FAI. econfaculty.gmu.edu/bcaplan/spain.htm Basically, I figure a full anarchist society would have had to "de-stateify" FAI on some level, if not disband it. Still a metric fuckton better than Franco's Carlists, Jose Antonio's Falangists, Mola's "assorted Fascists", or the "Spanish Lenin" playing a useful idiot to Stalin. Though as for "semi-enslavement", the situation's bad but it's not that bad; I think people seriously underestimate what slavery is (and ironically often wind up touching on the rhetoric of slave apologists like Calhoun). That doesn't mean the modern economy is perfect by any stretch of the imagination, and a wage offer on the job market is a poor way to judge human worth, but at least open enslavement is taboo or has to hold out. I guess I am also hopeful for the future (though I am likely far more conservative-liberal and capitalist). And I also find myself quite interested by many of the recent experiments. In particular, the Rojava- for all of its flaws- has been able to sustain itself and win in a deeply unenviable situation and neighborhood. To say nothing of El Alto and others. So I guess "cautiously optimistic" sums up much of my opinions on the world at present. "Do you watch ben shapiro? " I know it's not directed at me, but I admit I am. "NOOOOOOOOO NOT THE OPPRESSIVE BOUGIE FARMERS!!! NO YOU CAN'T TOUCH THE QUASI-FEUDAL LORDS WHO EXPLOITED POOR PEOPLE!!! THAT'S BAD!!! " I'm not going to say that you can't touch the farmers or their system (indeed, eminent domain is still a thing, as is using it for redistribution), but a lot matters on HOW and WHY you touch them. "[T]he fate of the peasant owner and tenant farmer in the communities occupied by the CNT-FAI militia was determined from the outset; for although a meeting of the population was generally held to decide on the establishment of the collective system, the vote was always taken by acclamation, and the presence of armed militiamen never failed to impose respect and fear on all opponents."" "...the partisans of collectivization acted according to their own revolutionary opinions. They respected neither property nor persons. In some villages collectivization was only possible by imposing it on the minority.'"" - Higino Noja Ruiz. The problem of course is that not only is this awkwardly state-like and coercive, but it's hard enough to curb abuses on that scale in any system (and I include my own Neo-Liberal/Neo-Conservative Capitalist Murica in it). And it can also be a terrible stain on future endeavors, in the same way that you could make a good argument for executing the Monarch and Consort for crimes against the people (in the case of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette in France or Tsar Nicky II and Alix in Russia), but the method was often farcical and not conducive to justice or accountability..... even before they started slaughtering the kids. That said, that goes back to FAI's bizarre thing as a sort of "Anarchist State-Non-State", and the fact that the Bolsheviks were totalitarian from the onset while Robespierre and a few others glorified "terror" via a state. While I disagree with CNT-FAI, the misdeeds made by members of them pale in comparison to most of the other major factions by faaaaar. Especially the Nacionalistas/ And PS: Bourgeoise are generally city dwelling property owners by definition (which kind of annoys me given how this term is mutilated). The closer term to the farmers you use would be gentry.

@@thorstenbohms4206 Communism is a economic system where the means of production are collectively managed, it don't need of states, and it is no necessarily hierarchic, contrary to capitalism. Obviously Soviet Union isn't a good example, it's a form of authoritary socialism, the marxism-leninism, opposite to libertarian communism/anarcho-communism
@vandeheyeric4 жыл бұрын
This kind of goes to the question of what a state is, and what a government is. Which is where I think it gets complicated. States are coercive, make no mistake about it, but they also tend to be a mixture of semi-organic and semi-artificial creation. But I guess I'll just settle for calling it a "polity."
@vandeheyeric4 жыл бұрын
@@paolherledan4917 "Communism is a economic system where the means of production are collectively managed, " Ehj, more or less agreed though there's a lot of dispute about that. "it don't need of states, " Which raises the issue of how the collective management would be, and what would order it. Even if we postulate a grassroots management by the private (or at least non-dependent) individual (maybe by grassroots) that management would have to be done in some collective forum. Which isn't surprising. Neither that such collective management is closely related to (even if we argue that it is not necessarily) a state. Which is one reason why the CNT-FAI in Catalonia started to resemble a state within a state with FAI as its "ruling party." "and it is no necessarily hierarchic, contrary to capitalism." Which assumes that capitalism is inherently hierarchic, which is particularly ironic since the earliest form of it emerged from the sort of free fairs cobbled together (most famously in Europe but also elsewhere, ) by subsistence farmers, craftsmen, and to some degree traders (though those came later) in order to trade their goods or services. Often to each other rather than via employment. So the 1 woman cottage industry crafter would often sell their wares to the farmer from the next county over in exchange for old coins to invest or (more commonly) goods that could be "invested" like wildlife or tools. Now, that doesn't mean these were non-hierarchical (indeed, if they ever were it wasn't long before the local gov't authroties muscled in for their cut and the more successful or fortunate powers that be started amassing resources and dictating terms), merely that it is not inherently hierarchical since capitalism is primarily about possession of private property and the trade of capital for profit. " Obviously Soviet Union isn't a good example, it's a form of authoritary socialism, the marxism-leninism, opposite to libertarian communism/anarcho-communism " Quite so. And while I do not claim to adhere to either, it doesn't take me a huge amount of time to realize that we're on the same side, at least re: despotism.
