When you talk about the descendants of Amdapor, it's worth noting that they Amdaporians weren't the only ones who took refuge in the spine and Gyr Abania. We know from the Red Mage lore that some of Mhach's survivors were also among those guided to Gyr Abania by Rhalgr's "star". Since mages caused the calamity, the people there hunted and persecuted mages, so the Amdapori White Mages and Mhachi Black mages in Gyr Abania banded together for protection and taught each other their magic, becoming the first Red Mages. There were also probably people already there (Skalla had already existed up there), and nomads from Ilsabard likely steadily trickled in as well. But the majority were probably Amdapori. But being a tribal/clan-based society for a while, people tend to get jumbled over time, as historical examples show At least some of the Hyur from Gelmorra/Gridania were likely of Amdapori descent as well, given some of the similarities between the cultures. Most of what we're given directly about the history of the races in Eorzea from the Fifth Umbra/Sixth Astral Era is said by Koji Fox himself to be biased in its perspective (seeming to be mostly Ul'Dahn Lalafell in its POV), and those same sources say there werent Hyur in Eorzea at all until the invasions from Ilsabard during that same era (which we know is false--though they likely werent the majority in Eorzea until the Ilsabardian migrations). Probably the Hyur of the Fifth Astral Era are written out because the Lalas were the elites of Mhach, the lower classes of Mhach who were left behind when the Void Ark set off were mostly Hyur, and their rival nation was Hyur majority too.

Thank you for the video. I have been absolutely obsessed with Amdapor the moment I first walked into the dungeon and heard the OST. And the boss, the enemies, the map, the *aesthetics*? It only fueled me into looking up more and ended up going down a rabbit hole. This video does a great job of explaining the city of Amdapor, and you've raised some interesting point. Especially with how the history of magic is connected to the city. I kinda like how Niniri presents the content and Elioaux interprets it, it's a nice format, especially for a long video. I kind of wish there was subs, there were many parts where I wasn't sure what was being said, though I know it's very hard for such a long video. Can't wait to see more.

I will for sure look into getting subs. This video also has some technical issues which caused our recordings to be worse than usual. It will be fixed going forward and glad you enjoyed the content! I adore Amdapors music as well and look forward to any info we get from myths of the realm. -Elioaux

Say, have you looked up about the classes of the Ancients (Emet-Selch, Hythlodaeus, Venat) and thought that they might have some hidden relation to some of the playable classes? Emet-Selch: Black Mage, Dark Knight Hythlodaeus: Bard Venat: Paladin, White Mage, Dancer I remember seeing in the FFXIV forum that there is some story related to Bard that uncanningly mirrors the endboss of Endwalker. it reminds immediately of Hythlodaeus.
@TheEorzeanArchives2 жыл бұрын
I noticed and thought about it but beyond association’s of black magic and darkness, white magic and light with their respective characters and hythlo tied with story, tales and support in not sure how much there is to take away. Though since the canonical class for END is PLD they are also clearly linking venat with WoL/Azem. There may be more to unpack though. -Elioaux

@@TheEorzeanArchives Say, before we saw Hermes transform and flew away with Meteion to Ktisis, what battle stance did he have again? Was it like a White Mage? Seriously though, Elpis really is an interesting place as we somewhat have a "hand" on the creation/abilities of some creatures on current day like Morbol or Behemoth LOL or simply find out the origin of certain creatures of today like the Lupin or Matanga.
@TheEorzeanArchives2 жыл бұрын
@@kriscubero6778 I’d need to check that BLM isn’t the same but it is for sure the same as WHM. We will be pouring over elpis for a long time to come but we should be careful on the supisition that any of the “beast tribes” fall under the same purview of creation as other creatures because if they did then we can likely assume the other races did as well and it’s not clear yet if they were actually natural outcomes of the stars, creations of the ancients or only resultant of a post sundering world. Especially with some implications from the short stories.

Amadapor is one of my favorite parts of the 5th Astral Era, so thank you for the video! Personally I do think Amadapor was mostly a moral civilization and that it foreshadows the events of Shadowbringers, not only in the appearance of soulkin in the form of sin eaters but also the events that led to the flood. Like Ardbert and friends they too fought a force of darkness (Mhach) that was threatening the rest of the land and like Arbert the conflict between the two brought a flood. (though this one being a actual flood thanks to the overabundance of water aether) As for the reincarnation section of the video, I do think its pretty much canon at this point. After all, Elidibus' memories in "Faded Memories" highly implies that Azem was the WoL of the First/FF1, using the WoL as inspiration and strength before ultimately taking his form later on. Honestly his friendship with Azem turning into a desperate hatred is just as sad, if not more so considering how young he is, as Emet-Selch's relationship with Azem. However, unlike you guys I'm not adverse to the chosen one trope.

We recently learned that when Voidsent are defeated, they dont die because Voidsent can never die, they just go back to the void in one way or another. Maybe the Amdaporians knew this too. By sealing them away instead of killing them, it removes them off the playing field for as long as they are sealed.

Tenzen is *not* as explicit as y'all are claiming. Tenzen *bound his soul* into the binding that he ends up helping the Warrior of Light to restore. There's *similarity* but I don't believe that Tenzen is a former incarnation of the current WoL. He's closer to Ysayle. *Also* chosen by Hydaelyn to be *a* Warrior of Light.

I was going to type: "So, given the 6th Calamity was caused by everything but water being drained... that makes sense to me because Black Mages use Lightning, Fire and Ice in combat, and White Mages use Wind and Earth in combat, but White Mages have very few Water elemental combat spells despite it being associated with them So given the two use every element except Water in war, it's understandable that only Water would remain in abundance" But you addressed that yourself, glad someone agrees with me

1:36:03 We actually know a bit more about Sil'dih and Belah'dia- they were ruled by Lalafells. Belah'dia was founded about eight hundred years ago, and has been abandoned for 600 years or less (the date of the Ul'dah/Sil'dih succession split). I've found references saying that the founders were Mhachi, though the timeline doesn't make much sense to me. We don't know exactly why it was abandoned, either. The city comes up during the ARR Hildibrand quests.
@TrombeX2 Жыл бұрын
Well, considering we find the Thaumaturge guild in Ul'dah, and thaumaturge is a precursor to Black Mage, it kinda makes sense that the founders may have been Mhachians.

About the nature of the twelve, I heard in a different video that they might be the “opposition” to the Ascians (followers of Zodiark), the followers of Hydelin (Hidelyn?), since: [spoilers] Whenever we see Venat and her allies, they always show 12 characters/shadows. It kind of makes sense.

I don't think you need to see into the future to get Eden's form for the Anima relic weapon. Given that sufficient amounts of Light/Dark corruption can and will create common mutations and forms of Sin Eater/Voidsent, it's entirely plausible that Amdapor just had sufficient familiarity with how Light works that they could predict/model what forms that Sin Eaters can take. Think how scientists today use computer models to predict physical phenomena; the Amdaporii just did the same with White Magic. The Anima staff could just be what the Amdaporii predicted what the "Ultimate Light Infused Being" would look like.

@1:20:13 the word you seem to be groping for here is 'catalysis', or to refer to the WoL as a 'catalyst' - without them, the reaction - the change - doesn't *happen* , but they are not themselves the change; they merely facilitate its occurrence.

Great video! Just one request, can you guys do a lore video about Garlean magictek? Because I struggle to understand how it works. It looks like they use some magic and it’s not just technology. But I thought Garleans couldn’t use magic? Also, on another topic, how does the city-states hold of the empire? Because it looks like the Garleans are atleast 100 years ahead of them in technology.
@TheEorzeanArchives2 жыл бұрын
Can do, I do touch on the subjects in “what is ceruleum” and “how airships work”. Important to the lore magitech is just a term they are purely mechanical. The city states hold off the garleans via a few things. One they have the home turf advantage, garleamald is small and needs conscripts for most of its force. They don’t have magic (except for their conscripts) they are spread thin trying to conquer Othard and Eorzea. Biggest of all is they have actually been fighting amongst themselves in a war of succession and before that suffered major losses during the fall of dalamud. Gaius trying to take Eorzea was actually more or less him going rogue during ARR. hope that helps! -Elioaux
@kingdane172 жыл бұрын
Yes it does! Thank you. I don’t know that about the Garleans, then being small in population and Giaus going rogue. I started playing during SHB
@TheEorzeanArchives2 жыл бұрын
Glad it helped, I’ll point out that Gaius was still serving the empire and loyal to the emperor. Though him trying to take over Eorzea wasn’t exactly his express orders so “going rogue” while a irate doesn’t mean it was him doing it for himself as he believed it was for the good of the empire.

In regards to amdapor nobility. If they were and always have been, the strongest and most infuencial power in the era, then the maintaining of peace and acts of nobility can be both earnest, and a powerful way to protect the status quo... with them being powerful. Being diplomatic is all fine and dandy, but it's important to recognize that it's easy for powerful states to negotiate amongst themselves, and leave the weaker states holding unexpected burdens, without any imput or say about how or why.

Smart, obvious and the pool was made up like orasides but a special mixture containing a bit of etherite in it like to stay more stable than most white oresight and not degrade nearly as quickly. Then you add the top of soul magic that white mages naturally have and you get the term geomancer or a gollum mage
