All the monsters are references to popular pop-culture horror icons. Clown = IT (among others), giant snake = monster movies, Raping tree = Evil Dead, Hellraiser guy = Hellraiser, even had a Xenomorph like creature and the Masked Intruders from The Strangers. The robot is homicidal AI/sentient machination, which we have plenty of movies about. The movie is an allegory about how we the audience are actually the Ancient Ones. With movies like this, I always wonder what did the higher ups tell the construction crews who built the facilities about what they were doing. Surely you have to have an idea of what you're building before you start. Can you just build from a plan without knowing what it will look like or what it will be used for?. No no no, a TV series would be much better given how many SCP's there are, each episode or even multiple episode story arcs could focus on a single or various SCP's, it'd definitely have to be rated-R tho or very close to it given how brutal most of the monsters and creatures are and hopefully a platform like Netflix would pick it up so it'd have a nice budget for good writers and effects, I think if all those criteria were met then the show would he an absolutely slam dunk especially within it's cult following, like I said a movie would be very risky tho because there are so many damn SCP's that I don't think it would engage people only focusing it's full run time on just one or two of them then having to wait another couple years for the movie franchise to kick off and what not

I like the fan theory that Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly/Serenity and The Cabin In the Woods all take place within the same universe and that their events match up with one another. Like the Ancient Ones are just Old Ones, the first demons to walk the earth like Illyria and that after Angel pissed off the Sr. Partners these demons were released onto the world. However, since the end of Angel, the Initiative from Buffy Season 4 have been sacrificing people to these demons to keep them from waking entirely, thus we get Cabin In The Woods. However, when that all fails and the Ancient Ones are released, humanity is forced to flee the planet for a new star system. This leading into Firefly. Also, the Alliance is actually secretly controlled by Wolframe & Hart, as well as River Tam actually being a potential Slayer whom they are trying to brainwash. River Tam does sport many Slayer-like abilities, such as her strength, fighting ability and psychic powers(Slayers have prophetic dreams and can communicate through dreams, not the same as mind reading but still). And during her battle with the Reavers, whom are assumed to be demonic in nature due to the influence of the Wolframe & Hart controlled Alliance, River Tam is "called". Her powers are fully awakened and she becomes the first Slayer to be called in over 500 years since the fall of Earth... just an interesting theory.

Unlike the facility,SCP use the criminal to experiment not the innocent bystanders People,Like those facility,They work was strictly and Very Harsh,While facility is A bunched joke, betting on who kill and use teenager as the scarifies,SCP can use the scarifies but if they are criminal volunteers,so there is a big difference between them

I like to think that the writers were expecting the audience to be upset about how the movie broke the system of horror/slasher film cliches and made the Ancient Ones to be us, only for the reaction to turn out different.

Great video as always! Just one nitpick: when explaining the archetypes you mixed up the “scholar” and the “athlete” when showing the associated character. ;)

I actually enjoy this horror film. It was a unique spin on the genre. Us, Hereditary, Midsommar, are reigniting the spin on more than just jump scares etc

Thank you for covering this movie. It was one of my favs for entertainment featuring a play on the predictable and deserving death of the typical teenagers in that genre of movies. Keep up the great work.

I noticed when you mentioned the cast you didn't mention Jesse Williams and when you mentioned the character archetype all the characters were highlighted but Jesse Williams wasn't. Is this intentional?
