“How could you look at this and think it’s what God wanted?” And there it is. That’s one of the main themes of the show. That religion by itself can be beautiful and helpful, as it is to Annie, as it is to the Sheriff and his departed wife, as it is to Erin thinking about her miscarriage. But religious dogma, religious zealotry, they corrupt and cause chaos. Wade was furious at Pruitt for killing Joe at first until Bev spouted scripture. In that case, a moral man was staring at a murder and became convinced it was good. And here a church of ordinary people drinks poison and dies at the word of their priest. It’s a subtle difference; the line between true faith and fanaticism. And I just love that this show explores it.

The reason Erin lost her baby is that the vampire blood attacks it like it’s a parasite or unwanted organism. So it devoured her baby.

No it's because they were getting younger...and the baby regressed to nothingness

@@kathleenclark815 The show literally explained this. The blood brings you to your “prime,” which is about 30 years old. Plenty of teenagers drank the wine and got no younger.

It's interesting you said the angel looked like the creatures from I am legend because I believe those are based on vampires as well.

Just the teenager stereotype who thinks he's got it all figured out

@@7MonarC much bigger reasons, so much peer pressure from a religious stand-point. From episode 1 he wanted to fit in and not be outcasted because he was the son of the sheriff and also one of the only two muslims on an island of zealots. He saw no other option.

This is exactly what religious fanaticism does to people.

Looking at the perspective of his role in the series, he just become a 'contrarian' and nothing else. And I really sad there is not depth to that

Going to have to disagree about the Sheriff being the main protagonist. He hasn't done much of anything. Residents have told him people are disappearing and we haven't seen him do any kind of investigating. Riley was really the protagonist.

Are you kidding? Erin was the protagonist.

in all traditional vampire lore, the way to become a vampire is drinking a vampire's blood, *and then dying*, often just drinking a vampire's blood will give you some of it's power, like youthfulness, or health, but you have to die to become a full vampire. the only religious connection is that an old priest with dementia managed to randomly stumble upon a vampire's lair after a storm in the desert unearthed it. And because he was old, crazy, and most importantly, religious, he looked at the vampire through the ridiculous lens of a religious person (come at me religious people, but it's make believe), and misinterpreted a fucking vampire as a biblical angel. He then managed the smuggle the vampire back to an isolated, very religious community, where a hyperreligious nutcase was all too willing to look at the vampire's powers, and see miracles. It was never an angel, it just happens that catholicism with it's weird insistence on drinking of blood (catholics believe that communion wine is *literally* jesus's blood, and the crackers are his flesh) and eating flesh, looks like a vampire cult.
