@livestrongforever10 жыл бұрын

@chadashton702910 жыл бұрын
This is a serious question...not me being a smartass or critical. Should military press be done at a slight angle like Derek is doing? I only started back in the gym and I am starting to add more pressing movements and I'd like to make the most of it. I've always done them seated in a chair with a 90 degree back but this way looks like it would at least be better on the shoulders. Thoughts?
@chadashton70299 жыл бұрын
***** That's actually how I do them now...standing. I've done 225 back in the day...a few strict and finish the rest of the set with a little "english" added. I couldn't imagine being beast enough to do 315 strict like Dan does...maybe someday...haha (I doubt it). Anyways...I thought maybe I was missing something by not doing them like Derek was doing them and i guess if nothing else...it's just a different way to skin a cat and a good way on days when my back is a little too sore to stand and press.
@chadashton70299 жыл бұрын
***** Screw that...I've done them that way and my shoulders would strongly disagree with Paul...lol
@anonymousinternetcowardmcq49677 жыл бұрын
Chad Ashton oh for christs sake the man just pressed 405 seated for 10 reps and youre talking about the angle of his body being 5 percent away from being completely straight? sometimes i wonder if any of you nerds actualy lifts weights

his grip on the 535 lb bench was much more narrow than the rest. He even went back to normal for the 545 lb set. Anyone know why?

600lbs benchers start with 135lbs. At my gym 185lbs benchers start with the same weight. I guess they're too embarrassed to go under 135lbs, people might think they're weak, as if they're max somehow wasn't a dead give away. LOL!
@BackFireZz10 жыл бұрын
yea lol, after i finish my working sets i drop the weight down and do sets with the lighter weight and people see me struggling with the light weight and probablly think im fucking weak lol
@MrProulx10 жыл бұрын
I start with 95 for 2x10 and then 135x10 as a warmup. Not enough guys do warmup period.
@gainsandglory68088 жыл бұрын
If i was to say do a set at 285, I start with the bar for 20, then 95x10, 115x10, 135x10, 155x5, 185x5, 205x3, 235x1, 250x1 and then my set at 285. In between the sets before 205 I am doing band dislocators and pull a parts along with 15lb Dumbell Hammer presses to warm up the elbows. People don't take warm ups seriously but it is important for prehab and rehab and imo I perform better on the actual sets and it gives me extra volume. I see 225 benchers get straight to it with no warmup and half rep whatever weight they use. Then they complain of shoulder and elbow pain. It's so dumb imo. You don't see sprinters do 0 warmups and then go full speed down a track. You don't see wrestlers, or boxers or any other athletes do 0 warmup and expect to perform at their best. So why do lifters try to?
@mogged1787 жыл бұрын
330 lb bencher here. I always start with the bar, lol.
@riceflatpicking49547 жыл бұрын
Yep. My best ever was 425 back in the mid nineties. I always started with the bar. Actually, I'd take five and ten pound dumbbells before the bar set and do sets of side laterals for 15-20 reps. Get those shoulders warmed up. Nothing sucks worse than an injury.
