It was originally a song sung by miners in 1905. The Animals made the first commercially successful recording of the song in 1964. That's 49 years after it was originally written, 111 years before 2016. So yes, this song is 100+ years old.

This is what I was wondering... What IS the "House of the Rising Sun". I wondered if it was a brothel. But the symbolism of "the rising sun" is Japan, right?
@wojtektaracinski79776 жыл бұрын
No, not really... keep in mind that the song was first mentioned in 1925 - so it had to be known and written several years before that. America didn't have major beef with Japan back then, and there weren't that much Japanese in New Orleans. There are various theories what this place might be - a brothel (the song was - originally - about female prostitute), a prison (place where you first see the raising sun - that's when you're hanged) or a hospital (keeping up with prostitution mentioned above, getting STD was pretty much death sentence back then).

I just got married in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia. It's my wife's hometown and almost entirely Muslim community. I was born and raised in South Louisiana, in Ascension Parish, about 40 minutes away from Nahlins. During the reception, her dad (Bapak) requested I sing this song with him. HE KILLED IT. So, mother's, maybe just maybe... Tell your children to do what I have done. 🤙🏼

My father has always sung this song eversince I was born. He sits there with his guitar and strums it. He is 65 now. But he puts a modified beautiful melodic tune to it. I think I can never forget this song.

The music which plays in my mind in the hospital moments before me dying , all my family runs here and there in the bright lights of hospital trying to save me , but deep inside me I know it's over , a movie 80 years long is gonna end now ...the moment I remember all my life memories all the good things and merrys ,with a merk on my face a happy face and with a smile I pass away disappointing everyone for one last time .
