What I really like about Eric is the look in his eyes that says he is thinking about what he is singing. He is not there for the crowds adoration, he is there to make a statement.

like all classics, this song doesn't date, powerful driving guitars, and wonderful rebellious vocals. I like how Eric at the end of the song, has a hand clap going, so he can time his vocal interjections.The best thing the Animals ever did.........

This is sung live. Eric has great timing. What a voice. Economical in body movements and facial expressions, and he looks at the audience intensely. IMO it feels like his stage persona owes much to John Lee Hooker's delivery. "So I was given the job of minding John Lee Hooker when he came over, showing him around. I also used to sign his autographs; at that time he couldn’t even write his own name." The Animals covered Boom Boom and other Hooker songs. Hooker visited the UK June-Nov 1964 and supported several rock/pop bands.

The Blues is just a good person feeling bad.There were quite a few great young rock artist that were born either during or just after WW 2. London and many of the industrial cities of England, were in ashes. They were very tough times. The Blues are born thru adversity and tough times. All drew on inspiration from the old American Bluesmen and the ruin that they grew up in.

lyrics It's a hard world to get a break in All the good things have been taken But girl there are ways To make certain things pay Though I'm dressed in these rags I'll wear sable some day Hear what I say I'm gonna ride the serpent No more time spent sweatin' rent Hear my command I'm breakin' loose, it ain't no use Holdin' me down, stick around And baby, baby Remember, remember It's my life and I'll do what I want It's my mind and I'll think like I want Show me I'm wrong, hurt me sometime But some day I'll treat you real fine There'll be women and their fortunes Who just want to mother orphans Are you gonna cry While I'm squeezin' them dry Takin' all I can get, no regrets When I, openly lie And live on their money Believe me honey, that money Can you believe, I ain't no saint No complaints So girl throw out Any doubt And baby (baby) Remember (remember) It's my life and I'll do what I want It's my mind and I'll think like I want Show me I'm wrong, hurt me sometime But some day I'll treat you real fine (It's my life and I'll do what I want) Don't push me (It's my mind and I'll think like I want) It's my life (It's my life and I'll do what I want) And I can do what I want (It's my mind and I'll think like I want) You can't tell me (It's my life and I'll do what I want)

The animals & yardbirds are my favorite examples of a 1960s era rock band. The almost Baroque sound produced by the keyboard in both bands personify 1960s music for me with their ominous twang and melodic continuum. I wish i had gotten to live in this time period.
@BigStar303
@BigStar303 8 ай бұрын
Nice comment; however, The Yardbirds did not have a keyboard as part of their regular instrumental lineup. I can think of only two tracks on which they used one: "For Your Love" (harpsichord played by Brian Auger) and an album track, "Farewell" (piano-based, not sure who played it). Otherwise, it was pretty much guitars all the way for The Yardbirds.
