My dad was a career soldier in the 60's and I grew up on military forts. My dad did 3 tours in Viet Nam and I remember once when he came home and this song came on the radio, he immediately shut it off. He said "I'm so sick of this damn song, I don't ever want to hear it again."

The "place" may likely be Newcastle, UK, where The Animals originated. That soldiers in Vietnam got a message from it -no surprise! My Father, served in the US Air Force, in the 60's, yet stationed at a SAC base in the US. Years later, I got him into more Rock music, and he did know The Animals "House of the Rising Son" from the Sixties, from the radio -he didn't make the connections that the same band did these other songs. He could understand how soldiers in the War

(conbt.) could get the message. My Dad is 83 years now, and suffered with Dementia. When I recently went to the care facility my Dad is at, another man, wheeling in the hallway, with a urine-bag, dragging from under his chair, was calling "I got to get out of this place!",...disturbing, but made me think of The Animals, while I visited my Dad. Oh, my parents, lived in England for a while, and they liked Newcastle, to visit. I told my Dad how The Animals, Dire Straits, Joe Jackson, Sting of The Police, Brian J' of AC-DC all came from Newcastle. He didn't know why Eric B' and the other Animals "wanted to get out of this place" as Newcastle is so nice now. Hometown, shipbuilding, family, lack of love, get down to London, storm on the coast -lots of reasons, that he wouldn't have experienced in the early 60's -as he was serving at a SAC base, in Montana! Parents! Music! Truth!🤔🙃

I still go to see Eric whenever he's in the area. Hilton, the guitarist was a real sweetheart who lived nearby. Chas, the bassist brought Jimi Hendrix to the world. This song meant a lot to soldiers that fought in "Nam". Yes, from a movie. They were in a few movies.

You might also want to check out the 'Sun Secrets' album and relisten to the hits you've already heard as this album IMHO has the best version's of some of these such as "Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood". Link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2iXfnl7eJehiNU Might be just me but the guitar work here on the Sun Secrets album is simply awesome. Cheers.

Best guess, this was a clip from an old "bikini beach" film called "It's A Bikini World" (someone needs to check that). The Animals were, in many ways, ahead of their time in their choice of music and their stage delivery. So glad you are enjoying great rock from a time when experimentation in music was the norm.

This video seems to be from a TV show. Back in the 1960's sometimes that was the only way for some folks to hear certain bands - especially in the emerging rock world. Until FM radio came along, all songs on AM were typically limited to 3 minutes. There was also a problem with "payola" where basically the radio stations were bribed by record company folks to play certain songs. So, most of the "live" performances you saw in the 60's and early 70's happened on various TV shows. There was also a show that was called "American Bandstand" that ran from the early 1950's until the late 80's that hosted live performances for young adults who were also dancing to recorded music. For most folks inerested in the newest music, American Bandstand was must-watch every week. After seeing the huge success of the show, a show called "Soul Train" became popular in the 70's and was known for featuring black performers and more, um, colorful dancing.

This was the theme song for American soldiers in Vietnam but also for us that served in the special forces of the South African Army when we fought in the Angolan war during the 70s and 80s, especially that one line, "we gotta get outta this place if its the last thing we ever do." I always loved the animals as a band and thier music, you should also listen to another song of thiers called "when i was young" but one song in particular stands out for me and that was the one my dad used to teach me to play Guitar back in the 70s and that was "house of the rising sun" I still have his Höfner Electric guitar which i played in my band when i was still in high school. Im love your reactions and i am so glad that yonger generations are loving the music i loved growing up, keep up the good work Millie and thanks

The Animals sang this song in a motion picture called "It's A Bikini World" which was released to movie theatres in 1967. The Animals appeared in a few motion pictures. It was common practice in the 1960's for the popular singing groups of the day to make cameo guest appearances in motion pictures. I remember one movie I attended in 1965 that had at least six rock pop groups singing in the movie. The songs had nothing to do with the movie but they always found a reason to suddenly have these groups sing one or two songs and then they would disappear from the rest of the movie.
