Also keep in mind, this is young/high school romance and in my opinion it can be immature literally. Matured watchers will say Yusaku’s handling of that situation was ridiculous, but I feel it fits for the anime’s setting. IMO obviously but just a thought

I absolutely loved watching Fruits Basket (2019) and I can only describe its story as angst disguised as a romantic comedy. It was delightful and heart-wrenching all at once, and it will remain one of the best anime I have watched thus far. 10/10, would recommend (if you don't mind angst).

To be fair, I wouldn't classify Anohana as a romance show in the first place. Like, the entire point of the show was Jintan and Co getting over Menma's death and moving on in a healthy way. That's like, the opposite of a romance.

Yes very true. But I think that the romance aspect of the show was very very prominent. I mean jin-tan liked menma right? That was obvious so I think this was more of a combination of genres. Also, the opposite of romance would like detesting someone or having severe apathy toward someone, not moving on from someone's death

The thing, for me, that makes a show a part of the romance genre is that the show has to revolve around either a) two characters trying to get into a romantic relationship or b) two characters are trying to keep their romantic relationship intact and healthy. I don't think it's enough just for a character's desire for a romantic relationship to be prominently displayed in the show, it has to be part of show's "endgame". Like, let's use Future Diary for example. Yuno's love for Yukiteru is a huge part of her character and it's definitely displayed prominently throughout the show. But I wouldn't call Future Diary a romance, because the "endgame" of the show and what it's audience came looking for is finding out who survives the death game, not whether or not Yuno gets to be with Yukiteru. Likewise, Anohana's endgame isn't whether or not Jintan will eventually get together with Menma, it's about whether or not he and his group of friends can move on from her death in a healthy way. Hence Anohana is the opposite of a romance show. It's about a character moving on from a relationship that ended badly and tragically early, and the challenges that arise from that. Rather than being about a character seeking to enter or maintain a relationship, and the challenges that arise from that.

kinda agree with you emily in this video, does guys says you have short attention span because they think you get bored of long character development, but i will counter that by saying its not development its just alot of filler scenes that doens't actually give anything to the story it doesen't actually get anywhere, and takes long time before they actually come to the real meat, and btw i didn't watch avatar neither when i was a kid because we didnt have nicelodeon on tv and every one was really suprised i hadn't watched it yet, you are not alone.
