My personal experience: It was really hard to find an apartment here in Düsseldorf. It took me a week to find a proper one. Then when I wanted to get an appointment (online) from the city office it took me another 5 days. Because all the time-slots were filled. However they have a system where they will send you a notification when there’s an open time-slot (it is pretty helpful). When you have your appointment don’t show up too early. It’s enough to be there at 15 minutes early. Because the checkin system will reject your checkin request if you are too early. (Lol I had to wait extra 20 minutes to make the checkin). The staff were very kind and helpful. Even helped me with some corrections in the application. Just took me 10 minutes. Pro tip: Don’t be selective when you select your city registration office location. And I experienced that, there are more time-slot options available when you make your online appointment in the early morning. ;) Good luck!

Depending on the Airbnb host, they are willing to give Wohnungsgeberbestätigung with the format used by the local city. My host was kind enough to give one as PDF, then I did the corrections afterwards. Edit: You need to have your Airbnb booking as a long stay (e.g. 1 month, 6 weeks) so that the host has justification to give you a Wohnungsgeberbestätigung. Short stays will be perceived as "not Anmeldung-worthy" since you are not concerned with the succeeding documents that requires long-stay address.

I'd like to clarify something about AirBnBs and the Certificate of Residence. If you are a foreigner and you just moved to Germany, the landlord HAS to provide the certificate, as per § 19 al. 2 BMG. AirBnB, Wünderflats and any other services might say what they like, but that's the law. Of course, it's better to find a place where you initially agreed on getting the certificate, but in case that doesn't happen, you should notify it (§ 54 Abs. 3 BMG) and you can even apply legal action. I strongly recommend using a service like Advocado to talk to a lawyer about any issues that might occur about this, as at the very end it's what the law says what you can rely on. In cases like Berlin, it's even very common to pay WAY MORE than the maximum rent, that can also be solved legally.

Reason: because I'm not registered in Germany! and of course there is no other legal way to buy/pay 🤦♂🤦♂what i understood is i can not even register legally which i really prefer to be comfortable because i do not have a resident!!! i do not need to stay in Germany visits will be 5 to 10 days MAX!....I really need to know what should i do to register or open a bank account? who should i contact? i need to be able to open a bank account and be able to deal with customs and authorities to be able get/obtain legal clearance documents to buy the car and ship it outside the EU. There is companies that charge a lot to do that and i end up paying maybe 30% of the car price after hiring one of those companies to transfer the money buy it transfer it to port and ship it overseas!!! and guess what i paid full price of everything including car price, shipping, customs fees, commission on November 8th 2023 and the car is still parked outside the car dealership till today, The company is waiting to get as much cars as possible to get very low shipping prices!!! PLEASE ADVISE IS HIGHLY APPRECIATED

There is a reason why you find those companies 😉 Registering as a resident is reserved to.... well residents. You could try to use a bank account via the digital financial service providers such as Revolut or Wise. It will get you an EU bank account but not a German one.

I will move to German on next week and I have a question about Anmeldung: I am an international student and I booked a room on Booking and stayed there for about 23 days and after that I will move to a long-term apartment, in that case I don't know how to register the Anmeldung? Register accommodation on booking first or register for long-term accommodation? Can you give me advice in this case? Thanks

The question is whether the place you booked on booking allows Anmeldung. If it does, go for it, so you have the Meldebescheinigung for all other steps to take. If it doesn't, do the Anmeldung with your long-term apartment. We wish you a smooth move! 😊

Firstly, great videos, no nonsense and straight to the point. My question : you mentioned that if you are married only one of you (not the whole family) needs to go to the registration office do the anmeldung. If your wife is a full time mom/housewife and you want to submit tax claims using category III and V to reduce tax, the wife will need a tax ID. Will this be issued for her even if she doesn’t go to the registration office? Also, is the TAX ID number and Social Security number issued after completing anmeldung (is it the offspring of the process) ? Many thanks !
@simplegermany3 жыл бұрын
Hey Brian 😊 So if only one of you goes to the registration, you need to carry all original documents (passports etc) from your entire family with you and register all members of your family, so all of your family members should receive their tax ID via postal mail a few weeks later. As far as we know, when you have tax class III and V, you have to file a tax declaration together. The Social Security Number does not get issued automatically through the Anmeldung, but rather through your health insurance or employer, depending on how you are insured. You can find more details in our three guides on the topics: www.simplegermany.com/tax-number-germany/ - www.simplegermany.com/tax-class-germany/ - www.simplegermany.com/social-security-number-germany/. Hope these help you out further 😊

Gosh. Living in Germany sounds like bureaucratic hell. Will they ever digitize these processes? In Czechia we have a databox that is connected to our identity and allows us to communicate to the authorities online. Everything is connected to the population register. So if we change address then this change percolates throughout the whole systém. No need to manually contact every office. Are there plans for egovernment in Germany anytime soon?
