Dexter implies in the original series that he's never tried pot. I forget what prompted the conversation but he asks Deb if she has any pot and says he's always been curious to try it. Earlier in the series Deb also says something along the lines of "Dexter never even trying a joint" when Doakes asks if he's fallen off the wagon after finding out he was going to NA meetings.

He’s never tried it if his own volition he was basically unknown long ku laced and it was 15 years before the original I can see it as easily they forgotten the exchange or the fact he’s never tried it purposely

@plutohs2834 The way he says "I've always been curious to try it" implies that he wonders what it feels like. Clearly indicating that he'd never experienced it's effects before. Idk if you partake or not... but if not, you'll just have to trust me when I say that if your only experience with THC was accidentally eating SIX pot brownies.. it's not something you'd forget. In reality, he more than likely would have been pushed into a full blown panic attack. And if you DO partake.. then you've gotta know that's true. Lol. It was a minor moment in the original series. It's not like it was a central part of his character that he never tried weed. So it's more likely that they either overlooked it when they were writing this scene... or they thought the moments shared between Dexter and Deb as a couple of young stoned siblings in a rare bonding moment for them at that point in their lives were worth ignoring a minor detail from the original run. I was just making a nitpicky observation. I still enjoyed the scene.

I agree with what you are saying however I don't agree that this is a plothole, this is another example of the fact that Harry in fact did not try everything but this isn't a plothole or a new concept, that's always been a lie. It's almost a recurring joke by the end of the original Dexter that he clearly was emotional about many things despite Dexter believing he is an emotionless monster. For example, Dexter's relationships with people such as caring for Deb, Rita, Astor, Cody, Harrison and kids in general. Harry mistook Dexter's trauma and lack of emotional intelligence for a lack of emotions altogether based on Harry's own trauma from years of hunting psychopaths and seeing what they've done, this is seen in Dexter's flashbacks in the original show where every time Dexter tells his Dad how he feels, he's told he feels that because he's damaged beyond repair. Such as, when Dexter asks his Dad, "You're saying I'll be like this forever?" clearly not wanting to be like this and being saddened, Harry says, "Yes, but we can channel it". After Laura's death, despite showing disdain for what Dexter wants to do, deep down, he wanted revenge and thought murderers deserve to be killed, and so pointed Dexter at them. Harry never truly tried everything, and that's partly why he takes his own life after seeing what he'd made. So rather than a plothole, I think it reinforces early on that Dexter was never beyond redemption, even back in the beginning, and it was his upbringing which made him who we see throughout Dexter, but it could've been different had Harry truly tried everything he could and this actually develops ideas from the original show in an effective way and builds on both Dexter's character and arguably even more so builds on Harry's and how his own issues made the bay harbour butcher.

the idea that psychopaths are emotionless monsters is incredibly outdated, Dexter IS in fact a psychopath, the emotions he feels for the people around him are extremely limited with the exception of Deb, who he has genuine connection to, but even then it's still surface level, when he sees Deb crying and sad he feels bad because he doesn't want to see her that way, not that a woman is sad in front of him, his empathy is extremely selective and surface level, he wants to solve the problem that's bothering her because he's not able to emotionally open up to her and provide a safe space for her, although he still puts on a mimicry psychopaths, like dexter, feel emotions like sadness, regret, happiness even, Dexter describes the feeling of killing as intoxicating, he loves it, however, Dexter is set in a world where every psychopath is addicted to killing in a compulsive capacity, unable to fully control themselves, unlike real life where they can get therapy and aren't really born with a need to kill

Thank you for this comment. It's mundblowing and cooling. I have also often been guessing how is it possible Dexter cares about so many others despite being a psychopath. Do you have an opinion on that, do you think that he indeed medically is not psychopath? And did have this second idea about really Harry being the one who gave up on normal Dexter always, throughout the original series?

The proof is that Dexter was able to control himself in New Blood and not kill for 10 years. So, if he is capable of not killing for 10 years, he should be able to not kill for another 10 years, and so on, until he never kills again, if he puts in extra effort.

You make some good points, but just because he is more relaxed in his interaction does not mean in the slightest that his need to kill is gone. There is zero indication for that in the episode (nor in real life, for that matter). What has changed is that his guard is down. But his guard is usually up because that's what he needs to do to hide his true self and follow rule number 1: don't get caught. A high Dexter would still kill. He just would be much more disorganized and careless and would get caught more quickly.

thats a big discredit to weed...... olympic athletes use it for anxiety and depression. your negative stereotyping about being disorganized and careless doesnt fit reality. some people might let themselves be lazy when smoking, some people wont. it's a person by person thing

@@chrish8111 I certainly have nothing against weed - quite the contrary. I'm just going by how he reacted to it in this episode. He almost confessed to Deb, after all. Plus, the premise here isn't that Dexter should toke one to start the weekend - it's that he should be high as a kite around the clock to curb his urges. And yeah, if you're stoned all the time then you will be more disorganized then your sober self.

Dexter was always been one of my favorite characters on television. I think I’ve only ever seen him do cocaine once but that’s cause he couldn’t sleep when he was raising a family, but I’ve never seen him chug down weed brownies in one day. I find it both messed up and a little funny at the same time first off. It’s messed up because Dexter is supposed to be rational minded and supposed to think strain instead he chugged down brown, is that in reading there was a note on them and then found out when he was more chillax that it was drug brownies. I mean, because if Dexter took drugs, he would’ve probably gone out of control. I would’ve done things out of control. I’m just saying because people on drugs have done stupid things before and three you should’ve read if there was some kind of note on it saying it wasn’t his even if it was hunger why couldn’t they just make breakfast again? I mean, I didn’t stop making steak or any other foods

Using drugs to suppress a dark passenger directly leads to a split/multiple personality disorder. There become multiple distinct personalities, each one struggling to become the dominant. Dexter may or may not have stopped killing, but his inner torment would just manifest as something different. I know. My single passenger became a limo full of drivers, all fighting to grip the wheel, with me locked in the trunk. Eventually, I came to the conclusion that if I could harness the personalities and deploy them at the appropriate times, things would work out. Did they? Eh. Sort of.

I guess my question if this is to prove Harry did try everything, and this is a plot hole. Wouldn't this further push. In Harry's mind he didn't try everything. And simply didn't think to try this? Given what was happening to him. And he was too focused on teaching Dexter, and training him. That it clouded out other options, cause he saw results in his teachings to Dexter?

Interesting theory because think about how marijuana for example can help cancer patients deal with what they're dealing with that they're going to die soon. After all that's why alcoholics become alcoholics because they try to use alcohol to Bury their trauma but in a very unhealthy way.

I got to love everybody on social media after watching this episode they kept saying that Deborah doesn't skip a leg day😂 Personally I think that's kind of disgusting because Molly as Deborah I think her age is like what 16 or 17 .. After all I think the prequel takes place like what 10 or 15 years before the original so that would mean she's about maybe close to 16 or 17 right because I think in the original like the first episode I think she was like in late 20s..

I’ve never understood the stigma behind smoking weed, even every day. When someone’s has a mental disorder and they get prescribed something to be “normal” as long as they take it every day it’s fine, but when it comes to psychedelics and other recreational drugs (the safe ones of course), everyone shames it, even when it really does help the person using
