Literally discussed 2 of these points with my husband today. Me "learning more" is a form of procrastination. And tired of everyone reaching out for an implied ask. Done and done. I don't consume any social media with the exception of watching Alex videos for my daily dose of insight. Pumped about this.

Quote from Steve Jobs. People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. But that’s not what it means at all. It means saying no the the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully. I’m actually as proud of the things we haven’t don’t ask the things I have done. Innovation is saying no to 1,000 things. As Alex said.. you don’t see progress until you are 70% 80% effort just to see the glimpse of progress… if you have 10 projects going and working on them 10% each… you will be fragmented. It’s best day no to all. And go all in on one thing.

Love the concept of saying no to weekends & especially keeping the same bedtime (at least, for a season.) Thanks for sharing, Alex.
@SportsSimp
@SportsSimp Жыл бұрын
I've seen this guy's videos on youtube, but have only started watching them. The season of no video was powerful. Tomorrow is day 39 of a 40 day water fast I have been on since I had a moment of clarity in my life 39 days ago. I woke up on a Sunday morning, upside down on my bed, hanging halfway off, hungover, after a saturday night that wasn't even too bad, considering my other wild weekends. I felt alone and disgusted with myself. I realized that for years, I've given my all to everyone around me, and nurtured their lives when they had absolutely nothing, only to realize that when you help people to their feet, that's when you find out if their hearts are genuine, or if they will be there for you when they have the means to stand on their own two feet. I found out the hard way, that wasn't the case. I had a moment of clarity in that moment on the bed, looking out through barely open blinds, where a very bright sun was shining through. Before this moment, all I could think of, was how many people were up, dressed, going out to church, brunch, and maybe to the beach to enjoy their wonderful week with friends and family. And here I was, thinking that I was going to lie in this bed all day and all night, depressed. Then, not to sound cliche, but a loud voice spoke to me and gave me instructions for an entire reset. The first order of business was to fast for 40 days and 40 nights. This was a multi pronged approach to make a radical change in my life. And it had to be radical, or else I was going to fall into the endless cycle I always fell into when I made declarations of change in my life. So, I didn't tell anyone what I was about to do. In fact, one of very first things I did with no hesitation was delete my Facebook account. I went to the store and bought me a 6 pack of Fiji water in the liter bottles, and up until now, I have only consumed water with electrolytes and select vitamins, such as a multivitamin, vitamin C, a B complex and nothing else. I'll have 50lbs. lost in 40 days (at 38 now) and I have never had so much mental clarity in my life. I deleted all of my streaming apps, I bought an Audible subscription and now have over 20 books on there, I go to the local bookstore and have bought books, and have made a list of the top things I will accomplish. Every other goal is not in my thoughts anymore. I gave up toxic relationships, bad food, alcohol, going out to events, and pleasing others. I am hyperfocused on me and me alone. I am not a simp, and no longer care who I offend for not doing things they want to do, loaning them money, or giving them my time. I could go on, but see I have already written a small book in your comments. I just felt so passionate about this, that I hope that I could help inspire someone else to snap out of it, and build up yourself and your vision, and not be the supplement to others lives and building up their empire and not my own.

That was actually good advice, funny thing is as a recovering self-help addict I realized that many self-help methods just keep you occupied without being actually productive. If you want to do something you have got to commit to it 100% and prioritize it over all other things, even if those other things are self help methods. It took me a while to realize that but now I focus 100% on my Filmmaking career and I could finally deliver the last months

Always loved the so-called millionaire routines: 4am: wake up and meditate 5am: stretching and workout 7am: cold shower 8am: breakfast 9am: visualization 10am: goal-setting 11am: grocery shopping 1pm: hot sauna yoga 2pm: lunch with friends at the beach 3pm: review my finances and spreadsheets 4pm: gratitude journal 5pm: affirmations 6pm: meeting with accountability coach 7pm: reading 8pm: bed, to rest up for another long day of succeeding tomorrow Bro, when the fuck do you actually work??
@Andreabay90

that's actually kind of comedic. especially the accountability coach at 6 pm. I like it. :D obviously, nobody would have time to do all these things, and its not realistic at all...
@TickleMeTimbers
@TickleMeTimbers Жыл бұрын
You stretched the morning out 5 hours longer than it needs to be. You can accomplish all those things within the first hour of waking, and put in a 6 hour work day before even having lunch and going on for the rest. Nobody meditates for an hour, working out an hour every day is overkill by any standard, I have no idea how you spend an hour in a cold shower, or why it takes you an hour to eat breakfast. Nobody spends an hour visualizing and another hour goal setting. Nobody spends an hour writing in a gratitude journal, or any journal for that matter, or another hour doing affirmations. In fact the only realistic thing on your list is grocery shopping. A lot of these things are actually 5-10 minute things. So you managed to make a reasonable daily routine look utterly ridiculous. But if that's how long it takes you to do basic things, I am not surprised these things don't work for you. Don't get me wrong, I don't do half the things on that list, but that is so far beyond an outrageous characterization of people taking those kinds of practices on. I could do all those things, add a 6hr work day to it, and still have plenty of time to do whatever the hell I please.

If something is important, you say no to everything else. That's how I was as a student. I wanted a guaranteed bright future, no struggle, so I said no to socializing and fun. While other kids were chatting in the lunch room I was reading over my notes and finishing homework in an empty classroom, so I have no social skills now. Got into an elite university for engineering, then the Great Financial Crisis hit. I was burned out, but nobody was giving jobs so I could move out. So I moved out to China. Now life should begin as a normal person, making friends, having relationships for the first time, cooking gourmet dinners, never again pushing myself or staying up all night to finish something. Government policy kept changing and people turned on me, I went from running a business to teaching in some high school just for the visa. Life is uninspiring, I have to move for the visa, so no more coffee shops, no more friends, just living alone in some dump of a city in my 30s without any money or career. I'm here to experience exciting adventures, not push myself, I don't want to harm myself losing hair by pushing myself to stay up all greasy and sweaty finishing stuff nobody needs ever again.

Grinding out your career should be worth it for the places it can take you along the way, not for the eventual promise of wealth. Life happens and all that work could very well turn into nothing, and you could easily get passed up by a schmuck who was at the right place at the right time. Priorities are important, so make sure you spend your limited time wisely. Don't waste it on cheap friends, experiences, and dreams.

I needed to hear this. I convinced myself I needed to keep going to networking events to help build my business and looking back less than 5% of new business came from networking events so I’m taking a major break and focusing on what actually works.

Normally LOVE Mozi’s content. I disagree with the changing number. Who you know is highly important in business, and keeping weak ties from dying out can pay dividends in the future. Yes 100% constrain the time you spend tending to these weak ties, but to extinguish them entirely is a short-sighted trade off for growth IMO

A very compelling philosophy. I think this is 100% correct. It also helps me understand why "being successful" may not be a realistic goal for me and others like myself. I have severe depression. After reviewing the video, as I assessed my life for how I spend my time, I realized that I am already doing much of what you propose in prioritizing certain activities and saying "no", but that the biggest time sink was time spent suffering and coping with my mental illness. Unfortunately, until we make further progress on curing these ailments, there is no way for me to say "No" to that time sink. In a way this is actually a relief. I can forgive myself. I did try to do the right thing, but I am simply handicapped in how far I can take that philosophical course of action. There is simply less time for me to allocate to priorities because my illness forces itself to be a priority for at least several hours a day, if not days or weeks at a time. I'll keep working on helping myself cope better with depression and try to prioritize with the time I am alotted otherwise. But this is a bitter-sweet truth you've revealed: I never stood a chance because I was sabotaged from the start. Depression is the most horrible time sink imaginable: you spend at minimum hours a day in an unproductive state; it forces you to sleep longer hours; it fucks with your natural rhythms and thus corrupts good habits. Only thing I can think is that I have to prioritize curing depression over anything else to then free up time. Maybe that's a worthy goal. Or maybe I'm just not ever going to achieve great success and that's just the luck of the draw, and I need to forgive myself for it. Either way, great video, rings entirely true to my experiences.

That is a worthy goal. But that doesn't mean you need to make it important in your mind. Just work on it step by step forgetting any importance. Don't think of great success, because thinking about it almost never brings people closer to it. Our minds treat our thoughts as reality, so if you think of great success your mind goes "oh yeah I have that, no work to do here". Think about it once and define next action to get closer, and then do that action. You should forgive yourself for everything, there are no unforgivable things. Accept yourself and all parts of yourself, because if you don't you won't ever change them. You can't change what you don't accept because unaccepted parts are like they're not yours. You stand a chance and you can do a lot more than you think you're capable of. I know it might be hard to believe especially when depression messes with your sense of self worth, but I'm sure in the future you will look back and see that this is true.

I'm going to be blunt brother - this is a defeatist attitude. "It's just my genetics, nothing can be done." No. Depression is an effect, which means there's a cause. Whether the cause is: Physical (mineral deficiency, poor sleep, etc), Mental (dopamine burn out from porn, social media, etc) Or Spiritual (lack of meaning, lack of belief in something greater beyond the self, etc) Your priority isn't to just accept that your depression will be taking hours from you every day, or weeks at a time. Your priority is to identify why you have depression in the first place, and fix it. You can figure this out.

@@DS-lq3dr this is facts. I was depressed from high school all through college and my first year out of college. In fact, I used my depression to write songs that later got me out of depression. I realized there was different sides of life and that I wasn’t going to be truly happy until I filled up all those sides of my life that made ME happy. For me, I want to be ultra successful like Alex. So I started prioritizing that as soon as I found my career path as an entrepreneur. Then I worked myself into the ground, ended up in the hospital and realized I needed to build a good social circle of people who were like minded. That helped a lot but then I realized I was still depressed bc I was lonely in my own house all day even when my friends came over and I talked to my circle, then I got a cat and it all changed. I’ve been very happy since then and my life feels like it’s really coming together now. My 9 years of depression has faded significantly with only some smaller setbacks that we all face as humans. The only other thing I could want to improve on in my areas of life now is finding my life partner but now I know that person has to be perfect or it’s not worth my time. And now I value myself so much that I don’t care to waste time dating unless she has the qualities I want. Confidence is up, depression down, money up. It CAN get better. Believe me on that

Yes, saying yes to one thing is saying no to another. Warren talks about making a list and eliminating everything but the top, all else is a no. I still give way too much time to bs I shouldn’t, calls, texts, etc. I hired an assistant for awhile and it helped, may revisit that again. Thank you 🙏
