The Chateau Diaries

3 жыл бұрын

I have an incredibly hectic day at Lalande, simultaneously filming for British TV and receiving the stunning antiques that I bought on my trip to the Dordogne a few months ago! We also have the pleasure of meeting Vivienne and Isabella from ‪@ChateauLove‬ ...
The Chateau Diaries Episode 228 ✨🏰✨
Escape to the chateau with ’The Chateau Diaries’ 🏰
This channel follows the adventures of chatelaine Stephanie in her French 16th century home, the Chateau de Lalande, in the heart of rural France ❤️
We share our life in this ancient chateau in the heart of the French countryside, and show you the diy, renovations, crafts, cooking and gardening that are needed to bring a home like this to life!
A very special thank you to all of you who have become Patrons of the Chateau de Lalande. You have made The Chateau Diaries one of the top 400 Patreon accounts in the world, and have transformed not only our lives here, but the future of this beautiful chateau! I’m overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity. On behalf of this beautiful chateau that will continue to survive and flourish because of you, thank you!!!

The setting sun threw golden rays, a gentle breeze caressed the face. The sound of laughter stayed behind, rejoicing in some antique find. The fragrance of a meal cooked well, the cracking of a tree that fell. These memories linger and enchant, for they spell out Chateau Lalande.

So cool... this business model. And so natural with Stephanie and Co. A novel method of progress! Wow. We are all watching history in the making. For God's sake somebody record it on paper. Nothing like this has EVER been attempted before! I am ecstatic to say the least. I just hope I can keep up with this stuff. There are no comprehensive books on this kind of business acumen yet! :0/ I guess everything is still being sorted out... god, I hope the business guys don't miss this or somehow make sense of it later on like they did with other models. Maybe someone can write a book or something :0/ Its worrying and exciting at the same time!

Stephanie the lime render on the base of the walls and turret at the front of Lalande are being ruined by the flower bed. You are introducing a source of constant moisture to that area and you need to do the opposite (keep the area dry) to protect the structure integrity of the walls. The lime render has already fallen off in many areas, but you can see clearly in this video that the render is very very damp. This will not only ruin ur wall structure if you don't remedy this urgently, but all interior walls will be damaged and your will end up redecorating. The correct way to fix this is to get rid of the flower beds and install a French drain with perforated plastic pipe all along the base of the wall and have the drain end up well away from the house. The wall render will need to be taken off and let the walls dry out for a few months before re-rendering them. Usually a solid wall dries at about 2 inches per month. Now is the ideal time of year to do this as you have the summer weather helping to dry the walls. Never inject the walls with damp proof chemicals and never use cement anywhere - only use lime mortar & plaster, along with a breathable paint and the walls will dry out on their own.

Oh and that log bench, what a great idea! Who doesn’t love a magical place like that for a woodland pause and snack? So nice to comemorate such an old tree that needed to be felled. He IS something else your brilliant tree man! Those beautiful stairs from an old chapel would be marvelous in a library, in an outhouse or barn converted to a social space or should you build a tiny treehouse in the woods with a view for birdwatching and meditation near the lake. You could use a clear resin like product on the bench. It will fill into the cracks and will make the seat smooth so no splinters! It’s a pricey product, but will harden and keep it from rotting for decades

Stephanie, you ended the vlog on such a touching note. That song.....me now. I just lost a dear friend to ALS, the city is tearing up our street out front, they’ve ripped out our cedar hedge, had an argument with a member of my family and am feeling rather sorry for myself.....that song brought on the tears. May I know the name and artist please? Also Cat’s voice is lovely! I am so glad you caught this on the vlog! I

Im so sorry for your loss. Praying that God gives you comfort and peace through this! Grief can be incredibly difficult. GriefShare is a group that really helps.💜 I used the Shazam app to get the song title and singer's for you.🤗 Beauty Lives in Me by Johannes Bornloff featuring Jennifer Holm.

Fabulous to see all the joy, fun and happy friends at the chateau. Cat is a breath of fresh air. Philip and Cat have a super sense of humour, loved the chunky herbs with cheeseboard and a the knives plunged into the cheese was epic 👌 Too much perfection can ruin a spontaneous moment. I adore Philip's desk and I think it's unisex🤗! All so exciting to see such stunning furniture arrive and the Morano chandelier is superb. My gosh, what cooks you all are, you could convert an out building into a restaurant. I do hope you see the post regarding the flower beds ruining your chateau foundation. X

Whatever you paid the tree surgeon, it was worth it. The bench is a cool extra, it’ll make the entry to the woods larger than life. P.s. has anyone tried to set Stephanie’s speed reading of patron names to a sick hip hop beat? Could be a hit.
