The thing about photography as an art is that the final image, ideally, should represent what the photographer "saw" and experienced; not necessarily what we expect they saw or even what we may have "seen" had we been there. It is an interpretation, just as an artist would interpret in a painting. That's why two photographers can stand right next to one another and photograph the same thing, and have vastly different images. It's also why it never gets old.

I had a few terms at a prestigious art college and they said that creativity exists outside in the ether and that you are a conduit like when lightning strikes a tree. The tree is nothing but a conduit it was to experiment without having a preconception of what you will achieve, the most important thing was to get out of the way and go with the flow

That question had me thinking over it a bit because I don't live near any areas that are like that. In the Everglades and local parks of South Florida, we do have prairies and scrub, which are close enough equivalents. We're subtropical savanna.

Thanks for another great video. I try to watch as many as possible in no particularly order, I just enjoy the flow and in wich way you explain your process . Many things I kind of know , but its all about getting all the pieces together at one and the same time of the taking of the photo. If there is great light it can be easy to forget the composition or other technical aspects. Anyway Ijust purchased the first E-book about composition and will dig into it as soon as possible, I think its "the" one thing wich most photograpers can and do improve over time , but a helping hand is often needed for us hobbyists. Cheers

I never go above F/11 - I find on most lenses you start getting Defraction above F/11, so it starts to soften the image. Usually at F/11 most of the background is in sharp focus.
@jaegerschtulmann3 жыл бұрын
Totally agree, you go past f11 and diffraction clearly starts to show. This has been noted by lens reviewers for most prime lenses and zooms.

Mads, you were having what Gavin Hardcastle would call a Photo-gasm! What a morning, you looked like you were just turning around and finding incredible compositions. We don’t have any Heather here like you have so I am a little jealous. So, look, I too try to stick around where I live to shoot my landscapes. It IS that connection to the location that shines through. Thanks for another great trip out into your beautiful country.

When you setup your new lenses for your camera you take a photo of same angled measure/ruler from every aperature, then look through everyone for sharpest image, then fine tune. Nearly all turn out sharp at F8-11. My 24-70 lense did well from f5-f16 but f8 was still sharpest

I have lived in Denmark for 25 years and as a New Zealander it took me a very long time to appreciate these very understated, undramatic, natural areas in Denmark. I do now, and very much so. Particularly the seasons are cool as one barely sees seasonal differences in New Zealand. But I do find it difficult to get excited about photographing Danish landscapes, compared to New Zealand where one is surrounded by dramatic landscapes everywhere. But Mads has a very good eye and clearly very good skills. I really enjoy these videos and I am starting to try to photograph landscapes. It is not the most social pursuit!

I'm very envious of the "open" wooded areas in your country. Here in the US midwest (Iowa) most of the wooded areas are quite cluttered and messy. Thank you for taking us along on such a peaceful and beautiful outing. Hard to pick a favorite shot! Sometimes I just watch your videos to remind myself to shoot landscapes. My income comes from shooting high speed, wide aperture, low light sports. Hardly any time to consider composition. The Sunny f/16 Rule is one of the oldest rules of thumb in photography. Allowed successful unmetered "back in the day". Sunny day, set aperture to f/16 and shutter speed to 1/(ISO) and you're good to go. Ex: sunny day, ap= f/16, ISO 200-> shutter speed = 1/250 sec (closest match to 1/200). Foggy day like this, probably wise to bracket to 1/125 sec and 1/60 sec. But that was on film when we wouldn't know how to the shot turned out until we processed the film.

Hi Mads, can you do focus tack and HDR stack together? Just wondering how you would shoot image with flowers blowing in the wind in foreground pretty close to the lens with a very bright sky in the background? It's a scenario I had in Ireland and didn't focus stack or do HDR stack and foreground was a bit soft and out of focus and sky blown out a bit. Disappointed because really liked composition.

Hi Mads. I have noticed that a lot of times, when you show the zebra stripes on the display, you let a tad of overexposure. I got the same camera so this interests me, why do you slightly overexposed (as far as what the zebras show) instead of decreasing the exposure for them to disappear?. I don't know if I have made myself understood ☺️ Thanks ever so much
@HoutmeyersP3 жыл бұрын
The zebra stripes only show overexposure in a jpeg screen preview....if you shoot in raw you can get that overexposure corrected. There's a limit on how much detail you can get back.....but a little overexposure ( small amount zebra stripes) is mostly not a big issue. If the whole sky in the screen preview is filled with those zebrastripes...than i would correct exposure. Its also easyer and cleaner to lower exposure in a slightly overexposed raw file than pushing eposure up in an underexposed photo. Pushing exposure up in an underexposed photo will in many cases show a lot more noise in the darker parts of the file.
@danielmoyle87943 жыл бұрын
Also fog can trick your camera into thinking it is overexposing when it is not leading to grey muddy fog. Always overexpose at least half a stop for fog.
@HoutmeyersP3 жыл бұрын
@@danielmoyle8794 Exactly right. I am often amazed how much overexposure can be fixed/corrected in Lightroom or Camera raw later on. Most detail info is still in the file even if it does look lost at first sight. In the past while using a lower dynamic range camera and just photoshop elements...i have trown out a few thousend photo's that were overexposed in thinking they were to bad to save....If i kept them and used current software i bet i could have saved a few thousend.
