You're 100% right. I'm delighted with my Studio Display. When used with Mac Studio (or I guess any Mac), it works so perfectly within the Mac Ecosystem. I've always been totally happy about the decision, so much so in fact, I bought another and run them side-by-side for double the 5k goodness. Needless to say, they both operate flawlessly and are an absolute joy to use. Yes, they're expensive but I really do feel you get what you pay for. Part of me wishes I'd gone for height adjustable stands as they look so much better than the standard tilt-only version but then again, that would have been another £800 and a really nice monitor riser is a lot cheaper 🤔

If you're upgrading from an iMac 5K and don't want to downgrade to a lesser display (or spend $6000 on the Pro Display XDR), this is really the only good choice. The LG SuperFine is the only other display with the same 27", 5K (5120×2880) panel; it's a little bit cheaper, but it's got a cheap plastic enclosure that wobbles, and has various reliability problems. I think the default Studio Display stand is perfectly fine for most use cases. You can put it on a little riser (and gain some space to slide your keyboard under it) if it's not quite tall enough. The height-adjustable stand is very nice, but quite a bit of money for something you'll probably set once and not need to adjust again.

My nitpicks mostly from using multiple Studio Displays to my mac Studio/Laptop. 1. My 2 Studio Displays do not work in stereo mode. I had to purchase software to do that. 2. VESA should be standard. If not, Apple should not charge me 300 bucks to replace the stands with VESA. 3. Bezels could be thinner; webcam should be much better. 5. The thunderbolt port should be in the middle. With a two-monitor setup, you have to have your MacBook in the center since placing it on either side makes the bundled cable unreachable. If you don't mind, please bundle the bigger cable with the display. 6. Software wise, give me a way to rename the displays. Selecting camera or audio output to Studio Display 1, 2... n isn't for 2023. For this reason, I had to replace one of my studio displays with Pro XDR so that I can easily identify my displays in software. 7. Detachable power cable would be great.

Biggest thing for me are the speakers, they punch FAR above their weight. I was astonished how it made the M1 Pro sound tinny and weak, a laptop that is still king of all laptop speakers. The spatial positioning and bass is unbelievable for what it is, the audio just sounds like it’s in the air around you, with incredibly precise and refined sound for what they are. Gloss display is also really hard to find, along with 5K. Brightness is better on the eyes than most monitors, as it actually gets bright enough during the day to match the sun intensity indoors, which is a big one for eye strain. Auto brightness is awesome along with that. Colours are on point and matched to my M1 Pro out of the box. For an IPS panel, the blacks are surprisingly dark, nearly bezel black which is impressive. On paper it’s not worth the price, in reality it’s still overpriced but the specs on paper translate much better into reality than first thought. Given it’s my income source, and I use it most of the day, it was one of the most justifiable expence and investment in my eye health.

I'm happy I found this video! I bought an Apple Studio Display and a 2023 M2 MacBook Pro with 16-inch Liquid Retina XDR display. The whites on both displays are completely off: more red on the Studio Display, and more yellow on the MBP. When I compare with all the iPhones and iPads in the house, NOTHING looks alike. I'm curious: which Reference Mode are you using on your Studio Display? The default Apple Display (P3- 600 nits)? If so, are you using True Tone? If not, don't you feel like its D65 White Point is way too blue/red? If you're not using its default Reference Mode, which one are you using? Design & Print (P3-D50)? Photography (P3-D65)? Did you calibrate your Studio Display? If so, what device did you use? I bought the ColorChecker Display Pro, but I can't use it on my MBP because it's XDR! I've been living a pure 6000$ CAD nightmare for a month now. Please help! Thank you!

I was VERY lucky and purchased [in Thailand] the top-of-the-line Studio Monitor (tint and adjust stand) with a nano-texture screen for the price of the base monitor! Base cost: $1587.16 USD and top-of-the-line configuration cost: $2295.46 USD. I'll be honest and say the expensive Tilt- and height-adjustable stand isn't worth the price. Once you set up the monitor I never adjust the screen except to tilt it slightly for video calls. The nano-texture screen is nice but also not worth the added cost unless you are in a bright room or have light coming from behind.

Great video, subscribed! I had been wanting this display for a while and tried to talk myself out of the purchase. It's not a screen for most people but if you, like me are a perfectionist when it comes to colour consistency then it's a no brainer. I'm a graphic designer, and whilst there are more colour accurate panels out there for print, the alternatives didn't necessarily say they worked out of the box with the M1 chips. Every time I use it I'm blown away by how sharp everything is and how beautiful the colours are. The webcam isn't perfect but most people don't have good ones, and they are primarily for zoom meetings. I wasn't expecting much from the speakers but use them more than I anticipated. I have some semi decent bookshelf speakers attached to a usb DAC that I use less and less now I have the display.
@normandyeuropa Жыл бұрын
Even with print in mind, that's usually on the later steps of the process. The art goes through different eyes first, and they usually use a mac (where I've worked at the very least). So having the peace of mind that the colors are consistent throughout that reduces back and forth, really just leaves the print process to be the main hurdle at the end. Once there is a profile to it, that is easily remedied.

I am literally waiting for the UPS guy to bring my Studio Display. I got an amazing Mac Mini M2 Pro and I have 2 DELL 4K 32" monitors. Man, they suck! This Mac Mini replaces my 2019 iMac and I notice a HUGE difference going from that "retina" display to these DELL displays. (And they weren't cheap!) It would be better if it had hdmi ports, supported AppleTV, came in a 32 inch variant, had a better refresh rate, supported HDR, had a removable power cable, had a better webcam, literally do the bare minimum that come standard on all monitors, maybe even incorporate some sort of Smart Display intelligence being that it has an A13 bionic chip inside that isn't used at all. and I would be happier.

@mrlt1151 Жыл бұрын
Why would you need a Mac Studio and an Apple Studio Display if you can’t afford them? Wouldn’t an M2 Mac mini and whatever monitor you could find second hand do everything you’d ever actually do? Let’s be real. To even warm the Mac Studio up you’d need thousands in software. Likely thousands or even 10’s of thousands of dollars more in other equipment. If you’re not making enough with it to pay for it, don’t worry about it. Focus on your passion and getting to the point where these tools are actually needed and valuable to you. I know plenty of auto mechanics with over $50k in tools. I don’t know any working photographers with anything less than $7k in cameras and lenses. I don’t know if there’s a photographer on the planet that “needs” a Mac Studio. Maybe higher end videographers, but what does a Red camera cost again? In my industry, a single tool can cost $50k. These are tools for working professionals, or toys for people with disposable income. Tools that make money, cost money. The fact that there are enough people willing, able, and even excited to buy these devices should be inspiring to you. It literally means that they are attainable. You just need to do your part.

Samsung is going to have to charge 3-400 less than Apple imo to steal customers I need 3 of these monitors as I currently already have a 5k iMac and a 5k 27" LG UltraFine and need more as a developer so saving a few hundred could be great, if not I ll have to bite the bullet lol

When this was introduced, I was planning on buying a "Studio Display" to replace my nice looking 2010, Apple 27-inch Cinema LED (none thunderbolt) display at 2560 by 1440. But, everything on this monitor needs to be, just a little bit better than on the built-in display for the 27-inch iMac Pro and the 27-inch iMac's ... say a 5.5K resolution, with a 4K web camera, perhaps more ports, and take away the A13 processor chip to reduce the price by $300. If buying in 2023, I would just pay the extra money and get a 32-inch XDR display and add a 4K web camera and external speakers (smile...smile).
