Spot on. I have watched SO MANY reviews and you reminded me what Apple sold me. Not a monitor but an experience. EVERY Apple product is about user experience - from function to form to performance. If I wanted a decent monitor, I'd buy an Ultrafine 24 or 27. But when I crank up spacial music. Or use the speaker phone connection while on a conference and it's blocking out background noise. Or, using webcam that follows me around. That's experience. Is there anything that disappoints me? Yes. Why can't we have two Thunderbolt ports?

This monitor should have been priced at $1000 and been the "affordable" option, and Apple should have come out with something in the $2000-2500 mid range. You could have had an entire 27" iMac computer for the price of this thing alone. The fact that it uses a basically identical panel to a 7 year old iMac design with slightly cranked up backlight is no engineering feat. It's overpriced for what it is.

It's just a few hundred quid more than the LG, yet has WAY more functionality (and style). It's good value as is. It has a good USB hub, it can charge your laptop, it has a good camera with Centre Stage, it is brighter than the LG (just), it has way better speakers. A lot of extra stuff for little extra cash. @@transitengineer I've bought one of the new studio displays, as eyesight issues mean I need a sharper display, but my old Thunderbolt Display has a network port and thunderbolt port in use - I can dongle the network port but the thunderbolt port will have to be connected to my MacBook Pro every time I move it. Nice review, thank you. I got one, and I love it. It replaced my 4K 32' Dell U3219Q, and my desk looks so much better, now that I retired a separate camera, phone, and speakers (I spend a lot of time in calls). Oh, and I love the actual screen. I still have a U3219Q as a secondary monitor and it is almost unpleasant to look at by comparison (looking at the Dell IS a bit like being at a dentist office;). Couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Loved your review. I just purchased this monitor with a Mac studio for all the reasons you gave. I wanted one monitor that had everything in it. I agree that this monitor is a little pricey and wish for this price they would have put a better webcam in it. Because if it’s true that the 27” panel is just bringing out the flaws in the cheap webcam, that’s a problem I don’t think software can fix. Hopefully they can because I expect better from Apple. I think the difference in build quality alone is worth the extra $200 over the LG monitor, but that’s just me. I haven’t gotten mine yet, but I am eager to use it.

I feel like this is a product Apple arent exactly proud of, display panel-wise, and will therefore be looking up update to a newer version asap (assuming supplies and material cost become viable) - this is an old display panel tech that does not stack up to the quality that is available today. I have studied tons of reviews and I decided to go with Studio display. It has everything in it. Looking at 4 k options I see plastic, no speakers, no web cam and no mic, at least in the ones I was looking at. So I would have to add all that stuff and have e xtra wires etc which I don’t like. And then 5k versus 4K which is best for Mac OS. I have loved my cinema screen for 11 years and I just want the best for the next 10 years. A few hundred bucks extra for no compromises spread over 10 years is fine. My cinema screen is only 1440 but in truth it still looks great for my kind of work. I will soon be 80 and my eyes will need all the help the monitor can give. I agree with all your points.

For who are wondering: No 4K is not enough because for true retina 2x 4K only recreates a 1080p user interface. There are no option for that, only LG Ultrafine 5K. HDR content is good on this display, there are “HDR” displays that have less nits than this
@MissSitaKat2 жыл бұрын
You are 100% correct.
@akyhne5 сағат бұрын
The only reason a 4K won't work, is because of the OS, not the display. Apple could fix that in a heart beat. But then they wouldn't sell all their "retina" displays". You don't understand what HDR is. Any mediocre HDR monitor, with wide gamut and 10-bit color, will beat this display. It doesn't matter if it's only HDR400 or HDR1000. Color accuracy, contrast ratio, 10-bit color, high brightness level and wide color gamut is what matters for a HDR display. ALL of them!

As someone who LOVES their Apple Studio Display, there are a few things about it I don't like. 1.) The power coord is not removable, which in my opinion is just silly, I mean what if it gets chewed by a pet? 2.) Only 60Hz (this is nit picky, I rarely ever benefit from a higher refresh rate, would just be a nice add since the monitor is nearly 2k) Things I love 1.) Charges, send audio and video from my Mac (yes I know this is a USB C thing) 2.) Speakers 10/10 3.) Minimal cables 4.) Very simple look (I agree the whole gamer look is not my cup of tea) I don't really mind that it doesn't have height adjustment, but $400 for that ability is way too much. Overall I think the Studio Display is an 7-8/10, nothing more nothing less. It's good but it has some flaws which I hope will be addressed and corrected in the next variation.

Looking at this pricing, I wonder what the "new" iMac 24 or 27 will be priced at? Essentially, while it is better, you are getting what you would get in a 24 inch iMac with 27 inches and no computer (better speakers I know). I feel this is a good monitor but the pricing seems off compared to a M1 iMac. My reality is I have had and loved a 2015 iMac and finally am looking to upgrade. I will hold on as long as I can as I feel Mac Studio is perfect for me, but connecting it to this monitor at this price point puts the whole package out of reach (almost like Mac Studio is charging too little and this is too much) for me.

Thanks for all that great information. I have a question and here’s the background info. I currently have the M1 iMac but will be going with the Mac Studio with the Studio Display shortly. Currently, I have the old 27” Thunderbolt as a second monitor … used mainly for Text and Web. A typical work flow has FCPX on the iMac and scripts, notes, various files, etc on the Thunderbolt. That old display still makes a decent picture …but … I’m having an issue with the Thunderbolt 2 adapter going into the iMac. It just doesn’t give a solid, dependable connection. I can go days/weeks without a problem but then the Thunderbolt Display will start flashing and any app that is open on it flies over to the iMac. Plus it can also make my RAID external drop offline (I don’t know how or why) and that causes bigger issues. I have to jiggle and reset the adapter a number of times for it to settle down. I’ve tried 4 different adapters and it happens on all of them. Thanks for sticking with this long story … here’s my question: Once I get the MacStudio and Studio Display, can you suggest a second monitor in the 27-32” range to serve as the second display? I hate giving up the Thunderbolt Display but that adapter is just not reliable. Any suggestion/advice will be greatly appreciated.

Since Center Stage has been out on Apple devices for a year, I was wondering why no one had complained about its poor quality until the 27" display came out. It makes sense that it's because the screens were smaller and therefore a lower quality was sufficient. The big 5K display just brought out the awfulness of the Center Stage image. Since this has been out for a year, I wonder what bug Apple found that would improve the image?

Find me another 220ppi panel with top notch linearity, wide gamut and color accuracy and we’ll talk. Every other consumer display has a noticeable pixel structure at normal viewing distances. Yes, it would be nice to have a mini led version, but there are shortages everywhere and Apple needed a display ready to go for the release. For the record, the black level is excellent for a side-lit ips, along with the previously mentioned specs. Why not take a look at it along side one of the 6K $5K displays at a store? It holds its own and color matching between the two is spot on.

Probably something about pixel density and volume. The LG C1 TV is going to sell much more than these computer monitors (except the Studio Display, for obvious reasons), which is a good thing.
