I recently got my first Super Thanks on a video. I was really happy and excited to receive this recognition of thanks for putting out a video.
When I was waiting to see the revenue reflected in KZbin Studio, I expected to see the customary KZbin fees taken off. I was not expecting to see that the remaining amount was 49%.
It turns out that if someone pays using Apple's in-app payment system for iOS apps that Apple charges a 30% fee first!
I understand KZbin's fees for the service because they provide the platform as well as handle the transaction fees, currency conversion fees, payment fees to transfer the money to you, and they host the site (KZbin itself). So it makes sense that they are going to bill for that service.
The APPLE Tax was a surprise.
I am still very thankful for the generous thanks the viewer gave me and this does not take away from my thanks for the generosity!
I just wanted to make this video to make this more common knowledge and I'm sure that KZbinrs that are getting started would be interested in this information as well.

P.S. I realise in the video, it looks like my math is wrong! It is because I rounded and did not use all the decimal places. he actual amount left over would have been $0.9751 and KZbin rounded up to the closest penny so that makes it $0.98.

It is amazing how everyone has their hands in our pockets. It is a lot like trucking. By the time the money gets to the owner operator, it has passed through several hands. Anyway, it is what it is. At least we have a platform we can share our adventures on.

Yes, it gets to be too much though! Apple doesn't need to charge that much at all! You're right though. It is what it is and there is nothing we can do about it. It would need government regulation to make a change. We still get something when someone makes a token of Thanks😁

Not only that at the end of the year, if you make enough money, you get taxed on all the money that is already been taxed and fees, so they’ve really made it very difficult for people to make any sort of money unless you’re getting all kinds of traffic

I guess it’s the same with any payment method. PayPal takes a cut as well with business transactions. With everyone’s hands in our pockets we don’t have much room for our own.

PayPal takes 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction. That's not bad at all! That's not the 30% that Apple will take off the top. So PayPal is one of the best methods to send money out there for just about anything. There are always going to be bank fees or transaction fees for things, but Apple, in my opinion, is just greedy.

By the end of the day, $1.99 thanks is probably worth maybe $.55 which really is a little bit unfair but it is what it is. We’d be better off mailing cash.

Yes, it does get whittled down. PayPal is one of the better ways. You'll also see people using "Buy Me a Coffee" which takes a little more than PayPal but still is only 5%

Hey Age, I know YT takes their piece off of all super thanks and memberships, but I didn't realize that Apple does that in addition. That's brutal! It must be like how PayPal charges user fees. 😔

Yeah, the KZbin part I was fine with, but to have Apple take a big chunk on top of that is excessive. PayPal is certainly not bad when you compare that to Apple. PayPal takes 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction which is way better, but unfortunately it's not integrated with KZbin. It's all the cost of doing business these days, I guess.

It's only if you do it through the KZbin App with iOS. Then Apple takes their cut. I think if you do it on the KZbin Website, Apple doesn't take a cut. The content provider still appreciates what you give to them in a Super Thanks 😃 How far away are you from your watch hours?

Like I said, Super Thanks are always appreciated 😁 No matter which way they come! If you go through the browser, rather than the App then Apple isn't taking a cut. The way you can tell is the Apple ones end in .99 and the regular ones are whole dollar amounts. There's always going to be transaction fees on things, but some turn out to be much higher than others, lol 😁

What options are there with Android?

On Android you just set up a payment method through your Google Account, I believe. So credit card, bank account, or however you plan to fund the Google count for purchases. A lot of creators also use Patreon which is outside of KZbin, but that does not allow Super Thanks in the comments. Creators will also use PayPal, which I do have in my descriptions, and the "Buy Me a Coffee" type things.

@@FrigginKlar the KZbin fee will be there for the Super Thanks and Super Chats, but I knew about those and was fine with that. It was just the Apple fee added to it which is crazy! PayPal is the cheapest and is only 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction. That's like a credit card merchant fee and is super reasonable. But that's a direct PayPal transaction that someone makes and it's not a Super Thanks if they want it to show in the comments. I'll be announcing those in subsequent videos that I do though😁 Buy Me a Coffee is similar to PayPal and the fee is 5% Patreon is outside of KZbin and has a similar fee structure to KZbin, but is a little bit cheaper for the fees. Again this does not show up in the comments and such.

Banks are regulated. These types of fees should be regulated too. Show that you're doing something for that type of money. At most they should charge a merchant fee like AMEX. I picked AMEX because they are expensive for merchants to take. I think they charge merchants 5%. Oh, well. This is how it is now so we deal with it.

It's a cash grab by Apple for sure! Yes, PayPal is much cheaper. It's basically like a merchant fee for Credit Cards (2.90% + $0.30). I'm used to some fees, but when Apple does that it is shocking. I thought that I would not have that problem with Apple because I don't use them...I was wrong, lol 😂 Then again, something is better than nothing 😁 So I'll be thankful for any guesture. I do think that these types of fees should be regulated somehow. At least have a better reason for charging them than "we want more cash" by these big companies.
