About The Ark:
THE ARK takes place 100 years in the future when planetary colonization missions have begun as a necessity to help secure the survival of the human race. That's a much better track record than most. Networks frequently cancel good shows more quickly as do most streamers, especially Netflix.

OMG, when I saw it, I thought it was a fan-based trailer. This is for real!? My oh my, how far SYFY has fallen since The Expanse. Looks like all the SFX are draft versions/placeholders, that CAN'T be the real SFX, right? Say it ain't so!

Okay, now that I've seen the first episode, I can say that I'm not a huge fan of the wide shots of the ship, in particular. I think that's what makes the series look like it only had a $500 budget for special effects based on the trailer alone, but once you get past that, everything else looks good! The first 5 minutes of the show with the pods being destroyed was gawd-awful and felt like the special effects were done at the very last possible moment (like 12 hours before the premiere deadline)! The set pieces, practical effects, computer screens, and other details are pretty good, and I like the story and plots going on. But seriously, whoever was in charge of animating the ship should feel shame, SHAME I SAY! The cast is pretty solid but will take a little bit of getting used to. I feel like it's going to be a cross between Degrassi Galactic High meets The Real Housewives of Alpha Centauri. Basically, I can tell it's going to get real messy! 😝

This is very similar to the series of the 70's called Ark II, same story just many years later. I don't think they're accredited but it's nearly the same story or very close anyway.

Ark II was about a handful of scientists driving around a ruined Earth in a high tech RV. They never went into space. Every episode they would drive to a different settlement of people in the wasteland. I do remember a TV series about a small cast of characters who were roaming around the inside of a giant space ark which had lost its command structure and each week they visited a different section of the ship and met different tribes. That was a similar but better show and I cannot remember the name of it. EDIT: It was called The Starlost.

I've watched this week, episodes 5 to 10. I can say it's a very good series, it's as if Earth Star Voyager and Battlestar Galactica (Ron D Moore, D Icke) had had a child. The characters are likable, the plot and situations are believable, the woke is kept at an almost invisible level. I recommend the series.

Waitaminit, waitaminit... what was the name of that low-budget show about, oh, 20 years back...? It followed some young(ish) explorers on a giant ark in space whose command crew had been killed, the ship was off course, and it was *really* big so each area of the ship was like a different mini-earth with different societies and so on, and the group of heroes who were the lead characters had to find a way to regain control of the ship to save everyone...? There was even an episode where they thought they'd finally reached the bridge only to realize the very young "command crew" were all trainees in a simulator who didn't know they were in a simulator until a situation that should have obliterated the ship comes to an end with no destruction and the computer begins to rate their performance. (I remember the "scanners" scattered around the bridge to locate interlopers were actually just the kind of spinning red lights you'd see on the roof of a 1970s police car.) The effects on this are worlds apart, but it sure as heck smells like the same stew (just being served in a fancier bowl).... OH, WAIT, I REMEMBER! "THE STARLOST" -- I get the feeling we're about to see a "reboot" of that series.

When SYFY cancels it after one season, they certainly can't blame it on costing too much to make. The VFX, costumes, and sets are on par with Pandora.
