As far as I can tell the Networking change is cosmetic only. The first part basically says if packets ABC arrive in order ACB but before B would happen on your screen it no longer counts are a missdelivered package. The 2nd part says that if there is a high variance of delay in the network (jitter) all packets are counted as missdelivered even if the arrive in order.

Pretty much the opposite of what you said. It affects whether packets are considered misdelivered. Misdelivered here means unusable (because potentially outdated). Previously out of order packets would be systematically considered misdelivered, now if it doesn't change the order of events they can be kept around. Taking an easy example: if packets ABC arrive in order ACB, previously C would have been considered misdelivered and discarded, and potentially B as well. But now if B and C have no particular relationship, both can be kept.

The post mentioned an example where order would be corrected and the packets used which was previously counted as missdelivered. They also say that this has changed. Nothing is said about the actual handling of packets which mean the change is cosmetic.

5:44 - packets are streams of data, but the best analogy to describe them would be if you wanted a conga line of food brought out to a table at a restaurant. drinks, appetizer, main course, second course, third course, dessert, in that order. and for the sake of analogy... the netgraph is gordan ramsay. if packets were delivered out of order, it's as if you ordered drinks and an appetizer, and they give you a main course or dessert first, it's in the wrong order... eventually the drinks and appetizer will come out, and if you're lucky it doesn't really impact your dining experience, but it's technically wrong compared to what it should have been, and previously gordon screamed about it being sent out in the wrong order, but now he doesn't -- the netgraph before the patch used to spit out error spikes and messages even if it didn't impact your gameplay experience, but now it won't. jitter is the interval in which food orders are sent out to your table... if all three courses are evenly spaced out like 15 minutes apart as the restaurant intended, that's no jitter. if the appetizer and first course had a 5 minute gap, and then 15 minutes for the first course, and then the second course takes 60 minutes to reach your table, that's jitter... the interval is wrong. previously, gordon would have ignored the intervals, but now he will flip shit if the interval is wrong even if everything was sent out in order and cooked to perfection -- if you have jitter and the jitter is excessive, even if every packet arrived in the order they were supposed to, the entire stream of packets will show up as an error on the netgraph.

Translation: They’ve changed how they measure problems with the data that’s sent over the internet during the game. Before, if the data arrived in the wrong order, it could be seen as a problem, even if it didn’t actually mess up the game. Also, they didn’t consider "jitter," which is when the internet connection is unstable and can make the game laggy. Now, they will only count out-of-order data as a problem if it actually affects the gameplay. I understand why they do it (for money) but couldn't they like at least make it so the agents are based on levels, but if you buy something you can use a certain agent on any level, it would break the game less. Yeah, we're losing flavor with time. It all starts to blend into a cola-bubblegum smoosh with glittler and emojis on top.

No change to the stale map pool or even a small tweak for fps boost. Just a huge cash grab "allowing" people to buy 5 passes at £13 each and slowing down the game with even more clutter. I no longer want to support a game that clearly doesn't care about it's player base and would rather add 4 new weapon collections for profit rather than change a map. Valve must see this game as a stock market for kids rather than something for people to play.

I wish CS2 would bring back more maps (de_train etc), and have a server browser so I can find cool 'active' unique custom servers with mods etc, like back in cs1.6. Also, I wish it had a reward mechanic in which you didn't have to pay money for keys to unlock cool skins, like the way it's done in Overwatch. I feel like it's so bare bones at the moment its lost a massive part of it's community.

The network thing essentially says that previously packets would be ignored if they were out of order, but sometimes the order doesn't matter so they made it so if it doesn't matter they can consider these packets valid. EDIT: I previously said something about it changing something for players, turns out I missed the very first sentence which essentially says this is only about how it's measured, not how it's handled. It probably only changes the stats.

I never had any problems like this before i have good internet and 500fps average and when i launch the game and go to a server i keep fucking lagging and after a while it throws me from the game completely. Also there is 2 meters that shows red which never showed red before only after this update omfg i hate this fucking game.

Idie game dev here. The networking update means that the game will count packet loss, in a way that will more accurately reflect the gameplay experience. So previously you could have packets be counted as dropped even if thet did affect you, or you could have lag spikes that didn't show up as lost packets but now will. From what they wrote, this shouldn't affect the networking performance. Unless, of course, they use these measurements to control which packets need to be sent again, etc. As someone working on a multiplayer FPS, I appreciate them going into technical detail. But I totally understand that it's lost on anybody who isn't doing game networking. Who knows, maybe if they get even more verbose the community will be able to help them fix their shit, lol.

to explain the networking changes, your computer and the server communicate with each other by sending chunks of information at a time, called packets. Sometimes, if you have some problem with your connection, packets can arrive out of order, or they can not arrive at all. now, the game is sending lots and lots of packets per second, so if a few packets arrive out of order it's not really noticeable. anyway, previously, if the packets arrived out of order, the game would count them as if you never received them in the first place and give a warning in the console about that. But now they've changed what counts as "missdelivery" so that if a few packets arrive out of order but not enough to be noticeable, they don't count as dropped.

The networking section in the patch notes does nothing for gameplay. It's just for the game to "properly" display packet loss etc. That's why many people are now noticing more red text in their graphs in-game.
