What's interesting is that the last example is from the game MatoJelic presented yesterday. Hehe

In the first example I don't get the "white HAS to take the pawn, otherwise he is just a pawn down". In my eyes: maybe there it's just better to just play on while down a pawn. Sure at the top level being a pawn down without compensation is often a lost game, but this always seems weird to me.

I mean if you dont accept the bishop sacrifice, he can open the center much easier because his bishop is supporting it. Which is pretty much the same thing but you dont even get compensation.

How do you decide whether to sac with a knight bishop rook queen pawn or whether to threaten something through piece moving? The problem with my calculating is that what I do in my head isn’t the correct sequence of moves. I could get part of the sac right for example, or what I think will work as a sac doesn’t. Both situations happen a lot.

It's still boomer level money to spend on chess. I love chessable, don't get me wrong, but I lost everything in the Covid depression. Faced with chess or groceries I reluctantly choose food.

i don't like your violence laden language. its the way i'd imagine a rapist would talk. less of the 'ripping it open and trying to kill it' and other such infantile talk please. but, maybe its just that you see chess as a board-game equivalent of violent computer games. i see it as a respectful, but intense battle of strategy's, with a friendly handshake whatever the outcome.
