Every single move that Po uses in the final fight is foreshadowed. Like even down to when Tai Lung punches him and he pops back up. Po learned by getting beaten by the training dummy. He fell down the stairs several times so he can use it to his advantage. It is visual excellence.

The thing about the Boys' climactic fight between Butcher and Homelander that really pissed me off is how abysmal Butcher's fighting was. I fully expected and WANTED them to show that Butcher was immensely more skilled than Homelander because, for fuck's sake, he was in the SAS. Then he comes out swinging like a little kid that's never so much as seen a boxing match. He should have wiped the fucking floor with Homelander, him being a wholly undisciplined manchild that has been relying exclusively on his powers for his entire life, and Butcher being a special forces badass. Huge missed opportunity, it really sucked ass to see.
@EugeneOneguine Жыл бұрын
I think Homelander would still take it, because of ... sigh ... power levels, but yeah. Butcher definitely needed more technical moves, at least enough to confuse Homelander, before his sheer powers get back on top.
@Toadster115 Жыл бұрын
Yeah. I'm surprised he did not mention the end of the previous season with Stormfront. It was painful and absolutely took me out of the experience. There were moments were characters stood still and threw punches as the other reacted. It looked slow, awful, clunky. The show also explained Maeve and Starlight both trained to fight beforehand too. But yeah huge missed opportunity with Butcher there, as he's built up to be an SAS badass. I think it's a great show but fight scenes range from bland to horrible.

One of the best fight scenes oat imo is the fight scene between Zuko and Azula from ATLA. The contrast between blue fire vs orange fire, insanity vs peace, redemption vs self righteousness, daughter of Ozai vs son of Ursa, and aggressive vs collected. The animation and look of the sequence is so beautiful and flows perfectly. The amount of emotional baggage being built up to this point is impeccable. So much is said during this scene despite there being very little dialogue. The moment when Azula realizes she is going to lose and she shoots at Katara so Zuko tanks the lightning blast is a great way to segway the ending. Katara ends up defeating Azula making for a sour ending where no one is there to take care of Azula but Katara rushes to save Zuko. This fight scene is not only beautiful and perfectly choreographed, but it dives deeper into the characters and examines the climax of Zuko and Azulas differences through metaphorical dichotomies. This is a perfect golden example of what a fight should be, and its not even the best part of the show.

from what I see, while the Spot has much more power and potential, hes just this random guy who gets pissed at miles because hes not taking seriously. he did get his life ruined by miles but for the most part this movie treats him like a joke, which he is at the beginning but then you have Kingpin and the Prowler (who i consider the main antagonists in the movie), both are treated and ARE threats to miles. Kingpin mourns the loss of his family, like miles loses his uncle, but both are different in how they cope with it, as kingpin wants to bring them back. The Prowler has this menacing presence and completely outclasses miles, but is then revealed to be his uncle which makes him much more important to miles.

Idk about your take man. I don’t really agree with any of your point either than narrative. When it comes to power level and impact i felt like the point can be summed down to consistently (i know im simplifying a bit but its a youtube comment so take it easy). Most fight that has 0 consistency or bad choreography are still quite good if it has a narrative weight to it. I remember watching cap vs iron man and was still pretty excited ignoring a lot of power level inconsistency. Same goes with so many fight scenes like in daredevil or lord of the rings. I remember when Gandalf came in and safe the battle in helms deep leading a cavalry charge down a hill I was quite excited because it was very well written. But then I watched it again on youtube, then I realized all the horses will just tumble down the hills. In the moment I definitely didn’t think or care to think about the logistics of sending an entire calvalry charge down a hill into a bunch of shield and spears pointing at the horses because I was already invested in the narrative and simply didn’t focus on that, the same can be said for pretty mucb everyone who watched LOTR. I think good fight scenes relies on the narrative to hide away elements that can’t be hide, like plot armor or the fact that you probably can’t actually punch the stuntman, or you just realized in the editing room that the long-take isn’t completely perfect. Only when the story is really fucking bad that you realize a lot of the flaws pointed out like battle of winterfell where the narrative makes no sense so rather than actually being invested you kinda just don’t give a shit. Same goes for pointless fight scenes without any narrative weight like the Spot fight scene, or like 80% of the new MCU movies. Fight kinda just happens for the sake of fighting and that makes the fight scene prone to nit-picking. My main point is, in my opinion, the only truly important element is narrative, the rest are secondary and if done well is just a plus. If you want good consistency and actual fighting skills try the UFC.

I think it’s hard to make real fighting look exciting because what really works isn’t always cool. If you watch 2 of the best people in the world fight it’s not always so 2 sided. Especially when you’re on the ground it’s mostly waiting for opportunities to arise while being in a good position and in stand up it’s a lot of prep and game plan which is why people would rather just watch the head kick rather than the body kicks that lower their hands to set it up.

Then, when I explain in detail the ridiculousness of the fight, they always go with "different people like different thomgs". I think the fight scene should tell you a lot about a character (how creative they are, how they solve problems, etc...) it should advance the plot (the hero has to fight to get to reach an objective, the second matrix movie had story then a fight scene for no reason x repeat), it shouldnt be obvious who'd win; in game of thrones, you didnt know if the lannisters or the baratheons would win the battle, it made it more compelling.

fight scenes in action movies are like musical numbers in musicals. If they don't mean anything for the story, drag on too long, or aren't preformed well then they're pointless and should be removed or changed. A fight scene doesn't inherently make a movie better, but shitty directors just see it as a cheat code to extend a movies run time. Best action movie is Hardcore Henry. It barely has a plot, but each fight scene feels important and has amazing impact. It is the opera of action. Peak movie.

Whether or not a fight is realistic or looks like a real event doesn't matter to me. My suspension of disbelief will cover that. I can accept some punches being off the mark because we don't want a real guy's nose broken just as much as I can accept a wizard casting a CGI spell. In my mind, I'll accept both as reality for the purposes of consuming the story. Where things break for me is when the story itself doesn't make sense. I'm fine with Superman existing, but I'm not fine with him dying to a random racoon bite. If the writer has shown a character to be super durable before, I'll hold that against them later when they make the character lose. Same goes for a previously established weak character winning. The writer better have a good reason, or else my immersion will be broken. Spider-man defeating Venom through the use of sound is a great example of this. How did the weak guy beat the strong guy? Well, the strong guy had a weakness. If there were no weakness, however, then I would have a hard time believing the fight. Even Kung Fu Panda does this. The reason Tai Lung lost to Po wasn't that Po had higher stats or a superior style. It was because his entire worldview got destroyed in the middle of a life or death battle and his insta-kill move didn't work on pandas. If neither of those were the case, then Kung Fu Panda would join the ranks of bad movies where the villain has to be nerfed for the final battle.
