Ponty’s best work was with the Mahavishnu Orchestra and the his fiery 1970s to 1983 solo releases featuring many stellar guitarists like Allan Holdsworth, Jamie Glaser and Scott Henderson. Find those releases and you will hear scorching & inspired violin work to be truly amazing. Sample his Imaginary Voyage, Enigmatic Ocean, Cosmic Messenger, his first Live CD, Civilized Evil, Mystical Adventures and Individual Choice as essential Ponty. After these releases, his fusion became more multi-ethnic influenced and essentially lounge jazz softer. This may have appealed to many but for hard hitting fusion fans - not so. The compilation release Le Voyage - Anthology is a good place to start for researching the releases you may find more to your taste. (I am a retired music reviewer and an active musician.) His dynamic and surprising syncopation and blues chops are what make him one of a kind for me. A lot of shredders seem to hang out on the grid. Scott *never* does.

В аннотации ни слова о самом интересном творческом периоде в группе Frank Zappa. Между тем, именно благодаря ссоре в связи с бегством в 1974 в Mahavishnu Orchestra, больше всего и прославился JLP. Шикарный скрипач, один из лучших, однозначно. Благодаря ему интересен и по сей день не утпатил своей прелести Apocalypse, 1974😅

Agreed! Scott’s phrasing is so unique. No one else can touch it. He combines this huge blues/jazz lexicon with the rawness and touch of players like Hendrix and Jeff Beck. Just inspiring! Only other player I see in the same light is early Scofield. 👊🏾

Song came out 1978, but this is not the band of the time, no Alan Zavod at keyboards, and it looks like Rayford Griffin at drums. Must be a recording of early '80s. Too bad Jean-Luc's solo is missing. Thanks for this snippet.

I don't think it was Rayford Griffin on drums. Rayford plays open handed (he leads with his left hand). This drummer plays cross handed (he leads with his right hand).
