The Art of Marx Trains Part 13: 1998 S-3 Diesel Switcher Variations

Tonight’s video features the Marx 1998 S-3 Diesel Switcher and their differences. There are a handful of variations, and they are a very reliable and smooth running locomotive. The prototype was made by ALCO. After Marx production, K-Line used the same plastic mold and called it the S-2. Thanks for watching!

The first time Ibsaw a Marx SW up close I could not believe how a four wheel moto assembly was made to fit in what looked like two four wheel truck's! Very clever and cost effective! I did not know of rhe sound feature until I saw this video. Learn every day. I always thought KLine was really good at what it did with the Marx dies, 😅though some would fissgree with me. The idea of a dummy unit was clever as well!

I have the Kline 2326 SP that came with the True Value set. My father had the ATSF and UP S3. I always liked the smaller Marx 4 wheel Diesel from the Illinois Central Work Train set.

nice video! Another variation is some of the motors have aluminum frames (like the E7 power pull with traction tires does) older ones have the steel frames

Hi impressive and colorful Marx 1998 collection your sharing. I had a question on your k line 2320 S-2, has that been reliable and a good runner for you? I was not sure sine k line is made in china?

I accidentally knocked my 1998 SF off the storage track and the plastic pins snapped off. I drilled small holes in the 4 mounting struts and used some small self tapping screws to secure the shell to the frame. I favor this method since it is easier to service the motor and change a burned out bulb.😎🚂🚃🚃🚃✝
