No, it was that they screwed it up with knee bend. Truly locked knees is a somewhat unnatural position, so they were a little lax with the rule, and soon you’d get some blatant knee bending/push press and it messed up all the numbers. There’s also some fast forward tracing of the knees in a fast press, so it became hard to judge between that and a push/bend.

@@formidableplays4750 nah he's going to have chronic lower back pain, especially since overhead press is ALREADY known for having lower back risks WITHOUT excessive lean, but the more you lean the more you activate your chest so it's incentivized to lean, but it's pretty bad for your lower back compared to a normal bench press

Yeah Serge was AMAZING! ... 502lbs, not moving his feet in the press AT ALL, weighing 140 kg BW (isch). Sadly the man died from heart attack just 4 yrs later, aged just 33 (very likely PED side effects from the rough gear back then) But that lift there is SO pretty, such a good clean phase and then a rapid smoooooth AF press, quick snakeroll of the body and then press and done.

People don't understand physics or even the proper technique for a heavy strict press. You literally can't stand upright willy nilly with a weight that big in your arms. The only exception is those who can start from a front rack OL position, and they too will violently jerk their backs backwards as they start the press (See Klokov, or any bronze era oly comp. footage of strict presses). You simply will struggle to press >1.0x bdw overhead standing completely straight throughout, and even if you do, you're leaking power and risking damage to your rotator cuff and spine.
