I have done hundreds of interviews, and my favorite thing to do is not ask questions directly in a way they can say yes or no--I always form the questions like "tell me about" or "tell me the story about." I also never really say things like "rephrase the question in your answer" like so many people do, because that's such an unnatural way to speak. I would rather ask them to explain something for me.

I just LOVE your content and your videos. Fall will hopefully be the right time for me to apply to your course, but until that I will continue to try to learn as much as possible while building my business. How would you say 32 float affects the overall sound workflow and in what way? Any loudness normalization or sound treatment we should with 32bit float that we don't have to do with "regular" 24bit audio?

I was literally googling this this morning. Appreciate the helpful tips. As an aside, do you ever have a hard time getting people to repeat the question at the start of their answer so that you’re able to get a good sound clip? Any tips here?
@markbone
@markbone Жыл бұрын
I just get them to repeat the beginning of their answer if they forget to. Make it fun. It takes time for them to remember
@MikidiMikkonen
@MikidiMikkonen Жыл бұрын
Give them some examples how to start after you question. Some people get the idea and sometimes its a struggle and need lots of repetition. I go like this: question, give examples how they can start, give some complimet "just be you, we are intrested about what you have to say" and ask the question again.

This is awesome! One thing I struggle with is the fact of: Do I include the audio of me asking the question so the audience knows, or should the question always be re-stated? I struggle with getting an obvious response to where it's crystal clear what the audience should be learning from this answer/response.
@MikidiMikkonen
@MikidiMikkonen Жыл бұрын
Dont include the audio of question, it adds only lenght and repetition. Before interview i give example "i ask you whats the weather outside and dont answer: sunny. Instead include the question in your answer: Weather outside is sunny". If people forged that i would stop them and give some soundbite where to start their answer. In this example i would say: "weather outside is...". Dont be afraid to ask same question over and over until you get what you need.
@markbone
@markbone Жыл бұрын
Yeah prep them to put the question in the answer!
@jaredcollins-photo
@jaredcollins-photo Жыл бұрын
@@MikidiMikkonen that's definitely something I'm timid to do (ask more than once) I suppose my fear is that they might get frustrated with me/themselves and then ruin the rest of the interview if I keep having them re-try their answers.
@MikidiMikkonen
@MikidiMikkonen Жыл бұрын
@@jaredcollins-photo You need to keep the situation light. If i have to ask many times i would make fun of me being so precise/accurate. People are also so different and one thing works with someone and so on. One extra thing i like to do is ask them at the end to introduce them again and the first question i asked. This time they are not that nervous and your video doesnt start with them being uncomfortable.
@jaredcollins-photo
@jaredcollins-photo Жыл бұрын
@@MikidiMikkonen I totally like that idea for having them repeat it at the end. I suppose there definitely isn’t a one size fits all sort of tactic or strategy. We are learning with every single shoot that we do

The one key question you missed should be the very last question. "Is there anything else you want to say? Or is there anything we've missed?" Otherwise, you have it covered. "Have we missed anything, Mark?" And room tone. Don't forget the room tone.

@@markbone Maybe, but for some reason, KZbin hasn't got real time comments, so the I time I wrote "first", It looked for me as I was first, but maybe not. But that aside, the video was very helpful! But I would love a video where you explain how exactly to properly incorporate those interview sequences to make a banger, or have you already made something like that? Would be very interested!
