Maybe. I'm so used to Pyxel Edit for tiles. This still looked a bit more cumbersome than Pyxel Edit, but since I own both Pyxel Edit and Aseprite, I'll play around with it and see if Aseprite wins me over for tiles.

@@robertb67 You have a very good point! I have been using PyxelEdit my whole career, and I fear that switching will affect my production... But sadly we have not heard anything from the developer for 2 years now, and I am weary that it will stay that way...
@robertb67
@robertb67 3 жыл бұрын
@@aftershower942 Yeah, that's the problem with Pyxel Edit. The updates are very, very rare. Aseprite definitely is much better on that front. Pyxel Edit desperately needs some more basic features added, such as a basic hue and saturation editor and things like that. Aseprite has a ton more features. If Aseprite nails the tile system, it will be the go to pixel art software.

Oh that's so smart with the time lapse video taken from a separate window. I know this wasn't your point, and maybe people already do this but I tried doing a time lapse of some 3D work and it was a bit nauseating with the zooming and rotating. Recording a separate output window would make it seem like the changes were magically appearing, same as what you figured out in aseprite. Brilliant.

I've been using Krita in a similar way recently, you can create clone layers of your tiles add a transform mask and move them so they are layed out in a way that you like. Then when you paint on the original all of your clones get updated. The tile brush in Aseprite is quicker obviously but Krita has its own advantages as well.

That's pretty fantastic, and I'm super happy that it has finally arrived. And I'm mind blown by that feature that identifies identical tiles that you demonstrated by grabbing a Tiled screen... But what if you want to make a copy of a tile and alter it just a little bit? I'm guessing that you can duplicate tiles and have the new one have a different index.

I was excited just knowing that it was going to have tile support, but now I'm extremely anxious to get it! The way that it handles copy and pasting for the tilemap layer is not only so smart, but it's going to make some things faster, easier, and more organic. The only thing I'm now unsure about is if there's a way to duplicate a tile and change only one for things like testing iterations.

Crazy to think it's been two years and this still hasn't been *officially* released. I had to work with animated tiles today and it was a nightmare process involving exporting from Aseprite into Tiled, linking the animated tiles together using a random Polish dude's unofficial plugin, making the map in Tiled, and then exporting it back into Aseprite using another awesome plugin from some random German dude. Would love support for animated tiles because that workflow just isn't scalable.
