Such a burst of happy '60s energy. "Windy" was typical sunshine pop of the time.

Other hits by them are Cherish and Along Comes Mary.

Songs that give you that "sunny day" feel good moments are examples of the sunshine pop genre. Spanky & Our Gang's Lazy Day is another prime example as is the fifth dimension's Up Up and Away.

This one reminds me of Georgy Girl by The Seekers. I saw them do that song live when the Ed Sullivan Show came to Montreal during the world's fair in 1967. Also on that bill was Petula Clark. You MUST do her. Best songs are Downtown and Don't Sleep on the Subway.

I used to love this song when I was a little girl ha, I would go around singing just the ‘everyone knows it’s Windy’ part over and over till my older sister would tell me to shut up! Ha.

That's the famous L.A. session musicians known as The Wrecking Crew doing the backing track.

This and "Cherish" were their two biggest hits. Although their first hit, "Along Comes Mary" was also excellent. "Cherish" was the must-play slow dance song for every record hop and high school dance. It got every couple up on the dance floor.

This came out when I was in elementary school and we had to learn it for a presentation we did. We also learned Don't Forget to Smell the Flowers for Bobby Lord, whose kids (Robby and Sarah) went to my school.

A somewhat similar song ... not identical of course, but with a similar swing and light feel ... is by the Seekers, "Georgy Girl" ('67). I was never that into these songs, but I acknowledge they are catchy pop songs. Definite candidates for elevator music for the next decade after they were released.

That's why '60s pop is/was so good. Primarily upbeat songs were big hits. To be played on AM radio song needed to be under 3:00.

Another great reaction to The Association! Thank you. And you are right on the money hearing The Beach Boys influence. Brian Wilson influenced everyone at that time (including The Beatles!), and most especially the LA bands. He made some of the best use of “The Wrecking Crew” in the studio. While most people will give you the best of the greatest hits, I also recommend an album that was not as big a hit, but is still great, BIRTHDAY. The opening song, “Come On In” is as good a place to start on that as anything. That album is one of my favorites. They were no longer as popular anymore by that time, but IMHO, just as good, if not better. And BTW, they were such great musicians as well as singers, they could recreate a lot of this stuff live.

Yes, as I said, definitely a Beach Boys type of sound. I was 7 and so this takes me back too. The sound of optimism and joy of being outdoors. Some of their songs are slow soft and sweet, and others are energetic. No need to choose between the two! Try "Cherish" if you want a slow one, or "Along Comes Mary" if you want a louder one. Some kind of flute?

Ace- there were so many good songs from The Association. There was an another group back then that also had a great sound. Try “It Don’t Matter To Me” by Bread.

More like "The Mamas and The Papas" style than the Beach Boys. Pop Rock if you will. No talk of drugs, or fast cars, or surfing, just an uplifting song that both the kids and mom and dad could all listen to in the station wagon in the mid 1960s.
