Spanning 25 mainline games divided into 7 sub series and 17 spinoff games the Atelier series became much bigger than its creator, Shinichi Yoshiike had ever dreamed when he entered Gust with his design document for Atelier Marie: Alchemist of Salburg. 27 years later and Shinichi Yoshiike, composer Daisuke Achiwa, and producer Tadanobu Inoue are still creating games in this is unique alchemy driven JRPG series.
With recent game titles in the Atelier Sophie and Atelier Ryza stories Gust's Atelier series has been gaining extraordinary sales and notice from the RPG community. In this video I briefly cover the entire series from Atelier Marie: Alchemist of Salburg to Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy & the Liberator of Polar Night.

Thank you for watching! Just a friendly warning to anybody looking to purchase a game in this series -- the Switch physical versions of many of these games are very unreasonably priced right now for whatever reason. Definitely do some price shopping -- you shouldn't be paying $70+ for ANY game that's been out for more than a year! They do run sales on Steam for these games a few times a year, and the trilogy bundles are generally the best deals if you're okay with purchasing in bulk.

my question about multiple versions like these are what about the performance? is the PC a lot better than the Switch? or is it another botched japanese PC port? :D wonder if there are any mods as well for the steam versions

@@kephalai Honestly - All Atelier games (yep - I bought them all over the years) perform very well on the PC. I have played them on several systems throughout the years, and never had any bad performance. I guess some people with bad configured or below specs components will have some trouble. Especially people that use a laptop and think the card number on their laptop preform the same as the PC counterpart. Then you get complaints like "my 1050 performs terrible while it's recommended in the specs". Well yeah - a laptop 1050 performs way worst than a PC 1050 version. And the recommendations are for PC versions. I guess that's the source of those complaints about bad ports and bad performance.

Sophie is definitely my favorite alchemist, I love how adorable and cheerful she is. Mysterious series is the first trilogy I have completed and I'm proud to say, I am ATELIER fan!

You have a nice sounding voice for this! But the pace is so fast I feel lost trying to comprehend what you are saying before you move on (I.e. “this game brought back popular character Pamela to the series”, I don’t know who she is or why she’s popular, but that’s all she gets). It’s possible that this video is aimed at people who are already fans or are familiar with the series with whom this fast pace is not a problem-I just wanted to give my feedback as a random click from KZbin’s algorithm recommendations. Good luck!

I absolutely recommend Atelier Resleriana as a starting point! With the caveat that you understand you will be playing a F2P, Mobile Gacha Game. Since it's free to play, it's a super easy way to get the feel of the story/characters of these games. While I've bought Ryza/Ayesha (trilogies of both were over $100 even on sale) thanks to my introduction of these characters in Resleriana, I have still not managed to get too far into either. I imagine as I become more familiar with the tone and feel of Resleriana I'll be ready to tackle these games once again and experience a full-fledged, 3D offering sooner rather then later. I'm also really, really in love with the Resleriana unique characters such as Resna, Valeria, and Izana!

I respectfully disagree. I own all Atelier games from Atelier Rorona, and in my humble opinion it's the worst starting point imaginable. It gives you the complete wrong impression what the Atelier games are all about. The Alchemy system is reduced to a mere joke, and exploring, what is a big part of the Atelier games, is almost non-existent. And then there is that terrible gacha mechanics, that honestly have no place in a Atelier game. If you look at the Steam score for this game it gets a 48% positive, while ALL other Atelier games hover around 85% to 95% positive. I guess that say's something. Of course this is just a personal opinion, and I don't want to offend, but I would rather recommend one of the other arcs as a starting point. Maybe the best is the Atelier Ryza (Secret series) or Atelier Sophie (Mysterious series).

@@jclosed2516 Most people going into a F2P game know what to expect though. Especially mobile games. I have never, ever, ever played a F2P/Mobile game version of any property and assumed the entire series perfectly reflected that game. For the most part they play differently from console games. The only exceptions I can really think of are games like Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves but I hate playing those on mobile. My hands always end up cramping up. If it's open world I want to be at my computer I also ended up buying a few "mainline" games after trying Resleriana and, even while on sale, they are still pretty expensive. I also didn't manage to "stick" with any of them yet (I haven't given up on them, but I'm just struggling to get into them, which feels a lot worse after I've paid money). While the gameplay mechanics are simplified, the world and characters and presentation feel pretty on point Atelier and I think that's where it matters. I was really bored with the story on launch but eventually I "got" the appeal and I think the next time I try to go through the mainline games I'll appreciate it more now. It's honestly a really solid entry for a mobile title. Far better then what the franchise has offered before. They are actually trying for once on this platform, even if it means it's become a "mainline" title.

@@Annoyer999 You have your opinion, and that's fine, but I (as said respectfully) disagree. Sure - They tried a new direction with this game, but most people think it's a way to monetize the Atelier series top to bottom. Their opinion, that I share by the way, is that a strongly reduced game play with monetization on top, is not the way to go for that Atelier series. Most people are begging Gust to give them a "traditional" game that's not free, has a good and fleshed out game play, and is also not monetized front to back. And seeing the Steam scores (you cannot deny they are extremely bad for a Atelier game), and bad reviews (The Kiseki Nut did a good, but harsh one), reflect that. I get that you like this type of game, or have a high tolerance for simplified game play connected to monetization, but that is not a view the majority of the "traditional" Atelier fans share. On the contrary... Still - It's nice you enjoy this game, and gacha lovers in general will probably have a good time with it (I don't really know about that, because this game is the only gacha game I ever tried). I hope you will have a lot of fun with this game for the time to come! 🙂

@@jclosed2516 Not sure if you are aware, but Gust has already said they'd be releasing another full priced Atelier game next. Seems this will be similar to FE:Heroes or AC:Pocket Camp where the mobile game exists alongside the full-priced releases, not replacing them outright. Ironically enough, the next full priced Atelier game is likely going to be the highest in terms of budget and scope thanks to profit/newcomers Resleriana has brought in (though I'm sure the majority of that success will be attributed to Ryza, which still continues to be a hugely influential boost to the series) I'm also not sure if you're aware of this, but the Atelier series has already tried having a gacha game in the past and it ended up failing. That's probably why they went with the approach of releasing one as part of the main series and putting some serious effort into it, which I think it's paying off. Atelier as a franchise should only continue to get better from here

I love the Atlier series. I have have played few releases in the last number of years due to their AGGRESSIVE DLC practices. I refuse to buy a game that has double the core game price in added content. Otherwise it is good.

This one of the best atelier games and gacha games. Pull rate for gacha is f2p. This game had great potential and this game one of the best mobile game from japan developer. Don't be fooled by chinese developer game like hoyoverse.

This series just doesn't do it for me. the focus on crafting and the anime vibe it gives off puts me off entirely. To each their own.
