This is the first pinball machine I ever worked on. I later bought the same cabinet a year later for $500. I completely restored it and now it's the most beautiful game in my collection. Working on this game helped me get into pinball repair and it turned from a hobby into a full time career. Because of this, I could never part with it.

Absolutely GOATed pinball machine. I played this pinball game before I'd ever even seen WaterWorld, and it's one of the main reasons I watched the film. Stuff like being able to collect dirt and go trade at the atoll or look for treasure was just so impressive to me for a game of its time, I knew there had to be something good behind it.

I love the pilgrimage to play the machine. I had to check if Galloping Ghost outside of Chicago happened to have a Waterworld machine, alas they don't. My local two theater mall cinema in my small Indiana town had this machine though, and I had entirely forgot until watching this video and seeing it in action sparking some old sense memories. Also, seeing your channel go up hundreds of subscribers in a day right now. That has to feel bizarre after all this time you've put into all this great work.

Yes, I remember this pinball game, it was in an arcade in town, I played it twice, then I never saw this game again in Poland, since so few of them were produced, it's no wonder I didn't come across this game later, this animation is what I remember the most. sailing catamaran and movie logo on this red display.

Never got a chance to see waterworld one. I think they didnt make these available in europe. I always enjoyed aesthetics of arcade machines in general especially older ones. Many had air brushed designs painted on the cabinets.

I was never super stoked on this film(though I never understood the undue hatred it got), nor did I imagine there would be an entire channel devoted to it, nor that the mighty ThemTube algorithm would reveal such a channel to me....but I respect your devotion and enjoyed your deep dive on the Deez that covered so much of both in-world canon and on set technical challenges. The 1990s was a golden age of licensed tie -ins, some of which did better than the movies themselves. When I looked up the merch for Congo 1995, I found out that the Congo pin-ball is considered a classic in the pinball fandom, though the movie itself is kinda meh. I also learned that pinball fandom is a thing, apparently. I did not know that. Another piece of tie-in media that is better than the movie is the soundtrack and music videos to the abysmal 1998 Godzilla.

Have you ever thought about doing a video on the weapons/guns of Waterworld? It’d be interesting to see how they make ammunition or how things like WWII .50 cal AA mounts are still around after hundreds of years (I think that one was used in the siege of the Atoll)

Yeah, I get this request a fair amount, but I have to say, I have no real knowledge of firearms so I'm probably not person to talk on this. I know there is some great documentation of the props on the Internet Movie Firearms Database, so I would check that out. Always wondered why the sea water in water world isn't drinkable or at least easier to desalinate. Adding freah water to the sea to the point that it covers the planet would delute the salt content, wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of sea life would die from the sudden change.

Unfortunately Gottlieb's 80's~90's machines aren't especially well regarded, outside of a few exceptions, Waterworld included. It's not a bad game but pinball players generally feel it doesn't have the staying power of other games and Gottlieb games are pretty infamous for technical problems so collectors aren't too keen on em. For 90's games with dot matrix displays though they're pretty good bargains usually compared to Williams/Bally games if you can do some maintenance and reliability mods.

Hey Koopa! Yeah, I don't know about differences in the Waterworld cabinets, nothing came up while I was researching this video. But I will say that there is a robust pinball mod scene, so if you do see differences it could be that it's been tinkered with by a pinball enthusiast.
