I've had one for 11 years. So far I've only had to replace a fuel pump and valve cover. Recently had it carbon cleaned although there wasn't much of a carbon buildup. 125000 km on it now

Are you planning to get the timing chains replaced soon? I worry that although mine only has 93k miles on it the timing chain might be a catastrophic failure if I don't sort it. What do you think?

Get it done before 100.000 mine jumped and the valves hit the pistons luckily they are forged and didn't damage them just bent the valves but it was only low revs when it jumped so could have been much worse.

I bought a low mileage (20k) B8.5.. 2 years ago and it's cost me roughly 8 grand in repairs and servicing 😂. It's in for two PVR valves on Friday. Still love it tho what an engine !!

One tip I'll add for people with he sticky clutch pedal, if they are forced to drive it with the problem, although they shouldn't, is to get into the habit of sliding their left foot under the clutch pedal immediately after a shift and pulling the clutch pedal back up. If you don't do this, you'll be in for more than just a master cylinder and clutch lines, but get it done asap. +1 on high rpm stickiness of pedal, I have the same at high rpm mostly, but don't sleep on that clutch pedal not returning sometimes when you are not paying attention even at low speeds, it can do that too
@benjaminsturms5977 Жыл бұрын
I recently had a new clutch service and had this sticking clutch pedal afterwards, replaced the master clutch cylinder or whatever its called 3 times. Had my go to shop and Vw dealer look at it and neither can source the issue. Any thoughts? Had vw parts installed for both services. I'm forced to drive with a sticking clutch pedal at the moment... Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

@@OneWayToMachines Opps forgot to mention it’s an 04 vw r32. I’m potentially looking to get an rs4.
@OneWayToMachines Жыл бұрын
@@benjaminsturms5977 I've heard another RS4 owner talk about a clutch line that his mechanic mentioned would 'collapse when pressure was applied.' There was great debate if this was true, but I guess if there are any soft rubber lines in your clutch system, they could be worn, not very visible to the eye, that they lose structure in some cases. I don't have any personal experience with this, and is definitely not a common point of discussion, and I was on the side of 'if the line has failed, it wouldn't be intermittent,' but hey, you've tried everything at this point. OE RS4's have self-adjust clutches where the mechanism can become partially faulty and this sometimes mimics the same symptoms as a bad slave or dirty fluid, so diagnosis is hard sometimes and it's common to replace everything all together. Not to second guess your shop, they are probably pro's but the only other thing I can think of is that the fluid was not bled good enough. Maybe your pedal mechanism has a mechanical sticking? Maybe the clutch kit you had installed was defective because the problem showed up right after that. Is you do get an RS4, definitely make an Audizine account for specific advice from members, I'm on there too AS for the R32, if I were in your case, make an account on the major forum, I remember VW stuff was vw vortex back in the late 2000's but I haven't been there in a long time so don't know much about vw forums. You should try contacting Humble Mechanic on KZbin. He is a Mark 4 VW R32 specialist. Probably the best source in addition to the forums. As long as you are coherent, he does reply to Instagram PM's and comments on his videos. Good luck!

Sooo far I've had to replace a throttle body, 2 oil cooler lines, PCV twice, struts, and some carbon. Upper C arm bushings are shot too. About 100k of hard use in the north east U.S. There might be a slight coolant leak somewhere I can't see, hopefully outside of the engine. Overall expensive as hell, but all things considered pretty reliable.
