Richard Simmons is a legend. He was a guy who encouraged people who didn't look like athletes or super models or fitness models to get off the coach and move. He encouraged people from all walks of life, and in particular those who weren't inclined to work out becuase maybe they were ashamed of their appearance, or feared it would hurt too much, and he made EVERYBODY feel comfortable in their skin. I recognize that 40 years ago when I was a full on retard teenager who was "to cool for school" that his persona put me off and I didn't give him the time of day, but as I matured and learned a little more about the guy I began to realize that he had a massive effect on a whole lot of people, plus I figured out that the dude was pretty funny and entertaining too and certainly never intended to say a bad word about anybody - even those who put their nose up at him or criticized him. I've just recently watched a documentary on him and my appreciation for the contributions this man gave to society and so many individuals has gone through the roof. It also saddens me to hear that he's become reclusive because he just couldn't take the hate any longer - this world needs more selfless people like this guy. And if you don't like his personality just take a step back and instead of hating try to have fun with it. You'll be glad you did.

He was the first to use actual regular people in his videos. No matter their body type. When some like Jane Fonda were using supermodels, Richard was celebrating the human body for all the differences we have and building confidence in people who weren't perfect.

Yep. Richard Simmons is one of those rare cases of profound integrity. He really was in it to prevent obesity.

at one time in his life Richard was himself obese and very shy and very insecure. he made it his purpose to help others overcome what he had done and love themselves while they worked to get healthier

From what I remember first seeing Richard on General Hospital where he played himself running an aerobics glass. After that he was on TV doing his own show "Sweating with the Oldies"

You know laughter is the best medicine. With that episode, Richard Simmons single handedly cured hundreds if not thousands of lives. Greg said it best at the end of the clip. "I'm just so happy."

I remember Richard Simmons as a kind of weight loss/fitness guru. He had lost a lot of weight himself and then inspired others. I believe he used to spend hours on the phone everyday personally talking to people at the level where they were in danger of not making it much longer and encouraging them to stick to better eating habits. He really is a very compassionate man, but dropped out of public life a while back because I think it got too overwhelming.

My favorite place to work out back in the day was Richard Simmons' studio in Denver. The instructors were so friendly and fun! I think one of the bigger fitness chains bought it, and in my opinion, it was never much fun after. Richard was very kind and extremely generous, and he really cared about people.

Richard Simmons is a Cinnamon Roll and MUST BE PROTECTED! I Used to have several of hiw workout videos "Sweating to the Oldies" and YES he did do rythmic exercises to get your blood pumping and your limbs loosened. He actually was an exercise instructor, not just an entertainer.

Richard was popular in the 80’s and 90’s and he was more of a fitness guru than about anything. He was definitely entertaining, but the thing is he really did help reach out and care about people that were trying to lose weight thanks to some of the programs he came up with. Sweating to the Oldies , pretty much aerobics to oldies music and Deal a meal were popular.

I know that the bubble filter is to prevent a copyright infringement, but to be honest, it is no fun at all to watch two people laugh at something that we can barely see. Don’t get me wrong, this is not a complaint at all because I really enjoy watching your reactions. I just didn’t know if you realized how it is from our end because I for one didn’t get half the enjoyment out of it because I couldn’t see much of what was going on. I just saw two wonderful people laughing. Maybe an experimentation on filters is in order, who knows. Keep up the good reactions! 👍👍👍👍👍 again, this is not intended to be a complaint or criticism, hope it doesn’t seem that way. 😊
@Deathbird_Mitch8 ай бұрын
I'll make the complaint for you. This was terrible. I couldn't see most of what was going on. A bunch of blurry shapeless blobs floating around the screen with bubbles overlaid.

Richard did workout in his videos. He's do the dancing and moving with the people with him while encouraging you to do the same. He never belittled overweight people, his mission was to make them feel comfortable exercising and doing so within a safe space because gyms can be daunting for those who don't regularly go.

Hey Folks, there are 2 skits from the Carol Burnett show that you haven't reacted to that are hilarious, the first it " the dentist" with Tim Conway and Harvy Korman. OMG, you will not be able to control yourself. The second is "the Elephant story", again with Tim, Carol, Vicky Lawrence, and Dick Van Dyke. Just to. Give you a little background, they are on the couch playing "Password" and Tim keeps interrupting the game. Love the reactions. Peace, Bill.

Historically, the Very Best! Richard Simmons grew-up obese. Richard made it okay to not be “fit & beautiful”…having people that were struggling with obesity on his videos and it was Okay, and they were welcomed, accepted and loved. All other 80’s fitness video’s could not compare to Richard’s humanity.

Richard Simmons was huge back in the day (1980s?). Women loved his workout videos, and yes he did lead workouts in the videos. He was popular because his workouts were for the ordinary person, which was different from the workout craze of the 80's. Olivia Newton-John was a leader of the phase with her video for the song "Let's Get Physical"..

He was in _the whole episode_ and as I recall Richard behaved relatively tamely in this game compared to later in the episdoe :D ... then again it's been a few decades so maybe my memory is exaggerrated. Sadly this seems to be the only segment of that episode floating around the internet these days.

The joke is that Simmons is gay, although he's never really come out. But he's even playing it up with all the sexual innuendos here. And this is obviously rehearsed because Simmons gets into position even before the joke starts.
