I got the first Defenders Epic Collection after seeing this and its hilarious. Hulk's stupid nicknames for everyone, the pompous angry loners all threatening to leave their adventures for reasons at the turn of a hat and the mundane B plots made these early issues hilarious 😂.

The Defenders weren't a secret team. They literally had a cameraman who accidentally televised that they were looking for recruits forcing them to have an open casting call filled with all the D listers they wanted to push. Then because they were a "No team" anyone could be a Defender. So villains attacked the banks and stuff calling themselves Defenders. Later on there was a Secret Defenders, but that was a lame showcase comic series and is not really related.

It was the best team book of the 70s imo. If you can deal with the writing style of 70s comics I highly recommend it. It's way ahead of it's time in many ways. It's why I'm always so pissed off at Netflix Defenders. They should be the Heroes for Hire, or the Marvel Knights. Although Luke Cage and Iron Fist have both been Defenders, but at different times. Otherwise no connections.
