Many moons ago, while living in central Europe, I was at a Halloween party at my friend's bar and asked to "get the party started" as the DJ had yet to arrive and the party people were growing restless. I played Rock Lobster and the place went from zero to absolutely insane. I lost count of the number of people who came up to me later in the evening and asked about the song. Love the B-52s forever. HE OWNED THEIR FIRST TWO ALBUMS AND WENT ON TO PLAYING THEIR MUSIC AT SOME OF HIS PARTIES BACK IN MY SENIOR YEAR IN HS - CLASS OF 1981. NOT ONLY DID HE INTRODUCE THEIR MUSIC TO ME BUT TO A WHOLE NEW GROUP OF PEOPLE THAT HAD NEVER HEARD OF THE B52’s. SOMEHOW SOME OF THEIR MUSIC ENDED UP ON THE CLUB (SETS - MEANING DANCES MY NECK OF THE WOODS) SCENE BACK THEN. THERE WAS AN ALL BOYS CATHOLIC SCHOOL CALLED MENDEL HIGH SCHOOL MOSTLY AFRICAN AMERICAN THAT GAVE PARTIES IN THEIR GYMNASIUM EVERY FRIDAY BACK IN MY SENIOR YEAR. SOME OF THE B52’s MUSIC ENDED UP BEING ROTATED IN THEIR HOT MIXES BY THE HOUSE DJ PLAYING THOSE HOT MIX TAPES. WE AS HIGH SCHOOL KIDS WOULD FIND OURSELVES JUMPING AROUND THAT GYM HAVING SO MUCH FUN GETTING ALL SWEATY AND HOT BECAUSE THERE WAS NO AIR CONDITIONING IN THE GYMNASIUM AT THE TIME JUST A BIG OLD FAN. THE LATE 70’s and EARLY 80’s back in Chicago was considered the HOT NEW WAVE SCENE with ALL THEIR PUNK FESTS AND PUNK NEW WAVE SETS FEATURED AT THE LOCAL DANCE/DISCO CLUBS. THIS SAME VIBE WOULD RESONATE ONTO MY FIRST YEAR IN COLLEGE DOWN IN COLUMBIA MISSOURI WHERE THE GO TO FOR ANY COLLEGE PARTY WAS PLAYING THE B52’s MUSIC.

The 80s were the last great decade.....before the death of enthusiasm, before pop culture was infected with, permeated with and made cheerless by detachment and irony.

What a whacky band - totally unique. Damn wish I was there, experiencing this live. I was like 10 when I first heard the older kids listening to these guys and dancing like crazy to them. Had a big impact

What was really odd about them and bands like Devo etc, back during this era was, on stage they were actually kind of frightening. I can't explain the feeling. As if they were futuristic, serious, intelligent and talented. Really strange feeling.

@@jameslatta6813 I saw Kraftwerk in the late 70's, and they had like robots of themselves playing -THAT was weird...
