I have been using the B & W Companion for three years and it works great. I can’t think of a scenario where it would allow hitching mistakes that would damage anything.

Excellent video Andy. I already had the B&W gooseneck ball setup in my 2021 RAM 2500. Bought the Companion 5th wheel today at Trailer Hitch Depot in Beaumont, Texas... and had them install it. They gave me a free nylon friction plate. Bought it after watching your video this morning. Informative video. Thanks.

Recently got the Companion hitch when we upgraded our RV. The spring add-on is really nice. It keeps the hitch plate level so there's no guessing on the height your unit needs to be when hooking up. I haven't taken it off yet so this video is most helpful. Thanks!

Thanks! I just purchased my Companion Slider yesterday, and I have been looking through numerous videos hoping someone could show me how to take it in and out. I bought a brand new 2019 Ford F250 Superduty, but it was not equipped with the factory gooseneck option. Therefore I also had a B&W "gooseneck" installed that resides under my Companion Slider. Great video!

I had the slider version of the companion. It was a great hitch, but I didn't need the slider and it was pretty heavy. So I went to the Andersen myself, but I will admit that the Companion was much smaller. We have a Facebook group for fellow camping / adventure channels if you are interested (I can't remember if I've invited you already.)

What would be the best way to lock this hitch? (just to slow down a determined thief).. Also, what about grease? what do you use on the saddle versus pivot points? Have you ever used a saddle pad instead? BTW, I just bought this along with the goose-neck kit for my 2020 F250... awesome video.

We use a Teflon disk between the king plate and the pin box. Otherwise I haven't had to grease anything.
@Speakno123 жыл бұрын
If you don’t use a nylon friction pad, use the recommended (from B&W) white lithium grease.

I’ve been contemplating getting rid of my Reese slider and going to one of these. Have you ever had very many situation you have wished you had a slider. I have a 19 Ford 250 with the 6.75 bed.
@littlervbiglife15455 жыл бұрын
We have a short box. I can't say that I have wished for any situation that we have needed a slider. Some campers may contact the rear of the cab but our particular setup we have had at 90 degrees and had zero issues.
@patbullard92764 жыл бұрын
The more important factor regarding turning without the slider is the front cap profile on the fiver. Older models had more squared off front caps but the later models have more rounded corners minimizing the need for the slider.

ANY THOUGHTS ON THE ANDERSON ULTIMATE 5TH WHEEL HITCH?
@awabbievet Жыл бұрын
Unless I missed it, what is different from the ball you're using now and the ball you threw away? Also, on your bed cover, has there been any problem with the inside rail cover and clearance with the hitch , or would you rather have top rail?
@driveman6490 Жыл бұрын
Actually there is no ball. The companion base slides into the slot where the turnover ball is/was located. A lever in the driver's side rear wheel well retracts the lock pin, the companion base is inserted, then the lever is moved to extend the locking pin. You then tighten (to 60lbs) the adjustment bolt to draw the unit down securely to the bed. Hope that helps!

I cannot pick up the hitch and move it out of the way to get my gooseneck ball in place. I can pick up and remove the head but the rest of the hitch is simply too heavy. I realize I could call some friends but I need to be able to convert back and forth between the gooseneck and 5th wheel all over the country. Any suggestions?

Are you asking how to hook up to a goose neck trailer?
@shaneksmith19574 жыл бұрын
@@littlervbiglife1545 . Yes. I have this hitch and it came with a gooseneck ball. I have been a full timer most of my life but have never seen anyone connect the gooseneck. I want to help a friend move her horse and her trailer is a gooseneck. I need to go from the fifth wheel hitch to the gooseneck and make sure I don't lose her Horse. I want to make sure I do it right. I have dumb questions like should i grease the ball? I also don't want to pull apart my fifth wheel before i get lost and loose a pin or something. I bet once you do it ten times it gets easier.
@littlervbiglife15454 жыл бұрын
@@shaneksmith1957 It's fairly easy but can be intimidating at first. You'll need to remove your 5th wheel hitch from your truck and put your ball back in. (sounds like you already knew that.) All of the companion pins should be tethered to the hitch so no worries about loosing them. I would apply a small amount of grease if you haven't in a while to the ball. the all you do is position the goose neck over your ball and lower it into position. Drop it's safety latch into position, and hook up your electrical/emergency brake.

you should have spread white lithium grease before the initial install. take it off and when reinstalling, spread white lithium grease on the plastic tips that are located on top the arms that attaches to the head unit. spread it liberally.
