I do agree that most of the terminal ballistic power behind a .223/5.56 comes from its insane velocity when fired from a long barrel, so having a shorter barrel, while still definitely effective, is really hampering the round's potential. It's like firing a .357 sig from a 1.5" snub nose revolver. The powder in most .223 cartridges is coarser because it's meant to burn through a long barrel, so with a short barrel you're gonna get a lot of flash and you won't get anywhere near the velocities achievable from a longer barrel.
@FishFind30002 жыл бұрын

In ballistic tests for .223 SBR's at least with the 7 inch barrel, are still fully effective at up to 300 yards, which yes the 14 inch barrel or longer is effective up to 500 yards so there is a significant difference in range capability. but in anything below 300 yards its just as effective. Since these SBR's are made for close combat, they still excel in these conditions. However .300blk is definitely the superior caliber for SBR's.

I've been building a 7.5" 5.56 AR since before this thing was announced. While not ideal for the same uses as a full length rifle, it's far more comfortable than my PC Charger, and I think with the right ammo it'll do everything that does as good or better. The only critique I have for your Baby SCAR is the price. My AR build is coming in at a lot less, including a high end BCG, billet receivers, and a binary trigger. If your main thing is just "SCAR = cool" though, I can't complain. The Robinson arms xcr-l mini, has had all the things they're offering here for a decade. It also has the ability to switch calibers for reasonable price, your warranty isn't ruined by using a suppressor, and they had a non reciprocating charging handle since the beginning. Slightly different than HK, FN's motto is, "because we suck and we hate you." Oh and with a superior 2 stage trigger, and a barrel of choice including 9.5" , and Superior short barrel calibers like 7.62 x39 and especially 6.8 SPC. And smaller profile foreend with mlok. At scar prices it's no contest.

Even the instructors took their time to point that out both times. Not the cheapest but it's the one I trust over many at or more than the price when the bet is my life. I hope it never comes to that but it's a great feeling to have found an MSR. I'm not really familiar with bullet physics, but one thing I know is that decreasing muzzle length decreases the accuracy of the weapon as a whole, as well as the size and shape of the bullet itself. So, if anyone can answer my question, wouldn't a 9 mm or something of that size and caliber be better suited for a weapon of this size and barrel length?
@reasonablenamehere2 жыл бұрын
Think of the barrel of the gun as a straw. If you try to blow a wad of paper out of a really short straw, only a little bit of pressure is going to build and your paper won't go very far without angling upward. The longer the straw, the more pressure can build before the paper comes out the end. As soon as the paper leaves the end of the straw, any amount of air pressure from you blowing will not propel the paper any harder. With a full length drinking straw, you can reasonably hit an object across a room while keeping the straw relatively flat. The powder inside the case of a round does not all combust simultaneously. The longer the bullet stays in the barrel, the more powder can burn and create more pressure to propel that bullet faster before the bullet leaves the barrel and the leftover powder burns into the air. The shorter, wider case of pistol calibers along with the faster burning powder used makes for a round that will achieve most of its powder burn very quickly, reducing the benefit of having longer barrels. You are correct in thinking that 9mm is more suited to that barrel length than 5.56. However, most rifle rounds are going significantly faster than pistol rounds and create more immediate damage than is possible for pistol rounds most of the time. A 10.3 inch barrel firing a 5.56 is still delivering about 20% more energy than 9mm out of very long barrels. At around 7 inch barrels, 5.56 is delivering a similar amount of energy to a 9mm from an 18 inch barrel. There are some intermediate rifle calibers than bridge the gap between what performance you can get out of a shorter barrel. .300 blackout and 7.62x39 burn their powder quite fast for rifle rounds and realize more of their potential out of 7-9 inch barrels than many other rifle rounds like 5.56. This is why you can expect to find more rifles and pistols of that barrel length in those calibers and why you will see people suggesting those calibers.

I really only go as short at 10.3/10.5 for a 5.56, once we get shorter than that, as I'm sure you're aware, we just lose so much. Regardless, with good ammo selection (like Mk262), we can still give even a 7.5 barrel a fighting chance, but it's still not going to be great, but at least workable (in terms of terminal performance). If I was doing this, I'm with you on SBRing. SBR to get a stock, and a quality can, like a SF RC2 556 SOCOM or something of that caliber. I usually avoid vert grips, but on SBRs I actually get some use out of them, would maybe do that too. Great video as usual, thank Christ they came out with the non-reciprocating CH and are using it on this offering -if ever it was super needed, it's here and now.
@Mr2ndAmendment2 жыл бұрын
@@lynxactual670 I mean, I do. SCAR 16, 17, And full auto Mk17. That reciprocating CH is a bastard for those who don't know how to work with it yet. Pain retains. Still would rather AR15 or AR10 over FN's SCAR.

Barrel length is a ridiculous argument considering the fact that 5.56 is not a knock down round. It pokes holes, and 7.5 inch barrel makes more sense than a 16 inch
@Front-Toward-Enemy2 жыл бұрын
@@blackreacher The 5.56 relies on muzzle velocity to do its damage. 7.5in barrels make absolutely no fucking sense. If you actually shot your guns, you’d know this.

@Dixie_Normus long barrel AR is an assault weapon, is an offensive tool. It's not a round for hunting, only purpose is a people stopper. Military use it because it stops people at long distance, but you're not gonna use it for that, only for self defense, close range and the short barrel 5.56 makes much more sense
@Front-Toward-Enemy2 жыл бұрын
@@blackreacher no its not an Assualt weapon. The military uses it because its a light recoiling weapon that is easy to shoot and the lighter ammo allows the soldier to carry more ammo. And their is no such thing as “stopping power”. If the military wanted stopping power they would have kept using the larger 7.62 nato cartridge they had adopted before the 5.56. 5.56 is a velocity dependent round. It relies on the hydrostatic shock caused by the small light bullet impacting flesh at a high velocity. No velocity means no effectiveness. So no a 7.5in barrel is useless.

There's plenty of YT vids showing gel tests on 5.56/.223 out of a 7.5" pistol barrel. Poboy Special has done great work with many different ammos for instance, check his content out. M855A1 Green Tip gave some pretty good results showing tumbling and permanent wound cavity. Is .300BLK a better choice out of a smaller barrel? Yes but 5.56/.223 is still effective, especially in heavier weights.

I would love to see a 15 and 30 yard target placement test on an outdoor range with these type of short barreled rifle caliber weapon systems, whether SBR or an AK pistol with a stabilizing brace. Gun laws kind of force you to have to either comply to having to compromise what or if you can load .223/.556/7.62 into.

The Annie Oakley supporting hand (left) with a straight arm is awkward as most firearm trainers will push for that elbow to be bent. The idea of putting your left thumb on top of the hand guard is the most awkward looking hold. This is the difference between the way they trained us in the 1980's and 2015. Look into the SME muzzle device from Witt Machine.
