Matt's Mom's influence was all it took to change the course of Bachelor history. He was doing so well without the skeptical and bitter reminder of the unsuccessful union his parent's had. I think Matt really was just not ready to be the Bachelor. If marrying someone who understands what his experience was as a Black man is something that is important to him, he has to know that Rachael would never fulfill that. What she did was wrong, but for Matt to expect her to know the Black experience is just not realistic. In my mind, he should have either chosen to stay with her and educate her, or gone with Michelle, who already shares that experience with him. How Matt dealt with the women this season just shows a lot of immaturity on his part.

It was not a situation where he would be chosen and then later, the social issues in 2020 would become even more pressing (not that this was not an issue before, but lets be honest, the Bachelor was kind of reacting to the BLM movements and protests after GF). So he did not really "fall" into it. He agreed to be the first black bachelor. He took up the challenge knowingly... So yeah, I mean I get that it was difficult but it still does not change the fact that he was clearly not ready for this... It kinda makes me think he did it for the IG followers. I would like to also suggest that this thing cannot end until black people recognize the mean spirit they go about things, with resentment and retaliation. This public shaming is over the top and they need to also learn compassion and forgiveness for the net we are ALL caught in, because they are constantly calling attention to being black, keeping it alive as an axe to grind. By now we have turned ourselves inside out with programs, apologies, admissions etc. and its time for a new Martin Luther King to come along and introduce a how to forgive tour, not continue the humiliate and shame tour. But his mom is Caucasian. His father married & had children with a Caucasian woman. So why is he demonized for it when it's part of his background?
@f0repl4y3 жыл бұрын
@@leojay60 Cancel culture. Black men are demonized for picking white women to love.
@leojay603 жыл бұрын
@@f0repl4y There's a lot to unpack on that one. It was once illegal, remember? That's actually part of why a marriage license was incorporated in the first place, so that a couple who composed of a "free" & "slave" status could be together in a way that was recognized. Other than that it was a common law marriage for free & slave couples. Then in places like Missouri interracial couples were banned from certain neighborhoods under private covenants and had to go court to contest such arrangements in the 1970-80's..then there's the real dark side to this. There were many an occasion where black men were falsely accused of assaulting white women and were often lynched on this basis. Emmitt Till was a 15 year old Chicago kid who had been used to some form in integration back home in school. However in Money, Mississippi he made a fatal error of saying "hi" to an older white woman named "Karen" Bryant (yes, she was the original "Karen"). She was so outraged by the "audacity " of a black male even looking at her, much less speaking that she arranged for her husband & brother in law to murder him in cold blood. Emmitt's mother had an open casket funeral to display the horror of real racism in the U.S. and give society a gut check. Yes, some things have obviously changed, but some things have obviously not. So understand that when it comes to interracial relationships, there's a lot of societal baggage loaded in the subject on both sides of the aisle. This is why Matt & Rachel would probably not have worked out anyway even if he did choose her in the end. This doesn't damn everyone else, but they didn't have the chops to truly look at their situation and the show conveniently edited out the substantive parts of their conversation and triggered much of the audience. ...quite a mess

Lets get to the truth of the matter... Matt is a momma's boy. He let mom's failures (love is not be all end all, and feelings fade) as his crux to back away from possibly true feelings he had. @@andreamolinar6883 the way I interpreted Matt’s comment was why he had to explain something she did wrong mattered now. I think she understood the gravity of the situation and why it was wrong, I think she was confused on why they couldn’t work through that. That was my view on his comment.

The silver lining in this season is that the finale highlighted that people can have interracial relationships, marriages and children and STILL be racist. I am black and have seen it before in the form of racial slurs, ignoring introduction and immersion into the minority culture, and offense when the minority family does not accept you (most often because the family knows in advance that significant other is racist). It's doubly sad because there are many relationships that are not, but unfortunately interracial companionships are often sought out for another purpose other than finding love.

Watching Rachel and Matt together was a knife to the heart man... you could tell there was so much pain between the both of them and there was still so much love there no matter what side you’re on whether it’s the cancel Rachel train or the forgive through proved change train. That’s the hardest part is when you love someone but they may not be the best person for you. Hopefully if it’s not with each other both of them will be able to move on and be in their own happy lives. I still think if they are able to get through this it would show that people can change and be forgiven for their past actions. I’ve always been more for educating people rather than canceling them because Rachel truly does seem like a good hearted person.

Worst season of the bachelor/bachelorette I've seen so far. Too much bullying and a lack of romance. The producers really need to cast the contestants better. Also it was pretty clear very early on that Matt only had eyes for Rachael, and I feel a lot of the other women were strung along unfairly which was uncomfortable to watch. But even that relationship went to shambles, and now Matt almost looks at her with disgust and hate in his eyes. This entire season has just been depressing from beginning to end smh. On a positive note tho, I really loved Emmanuel as a host and hope to see him return. He's a very engaging interviewer

I don't think it was the contestants fault as much as the way they put the footage together, I mean yes partially them, but there was probably romance there just not shown.
@Caerise3 жыл бұрын
@@tulip5210 What I meant to say was that I think casting so many immature catty women got in the way of the romance, not that they didn't try to find romance, bc I'm sure they did. And I also doubt Matt was ever really ready for a serious relationship, which also got in the way of the romance. It seemed a little too easy for him to end things with all the women, even final 3, so it's hard to believe he ever had a strong connection with them.

The disrespect to Matt from so many people is appalling... no one was probably more hurt from Rachel’s past than Matt. Think about it, this was who he saw spending the rest of his life with, and finding out that your s/o did something like that, probably hurts more than anything, add to that being the target of the insensitive actions. It was never Matt’s job to stay with her and educate her, no matter how much he loved her. For people to assume he’s a fboy and just wanted an easy out is so disrespectful, and honestly makes me question if people actually care about the whole race conversation or not.
@Blueeyesinthesky3 жыл бұрын
I get why he’s so upset by it, I think if the magnitude and mass opinion weren’t a apart of the whole thing he probably wouldn’t have taken it AS hard because obviously her intention was never even close to being hateful. But the fact that her mistakes have tied to his reputation and how everyone looks at his season for his whole life? Yeah that’s huge, he’s basically gonna be known as the first black bachelor who fell for a woman with a racially ignorant past. When his intention was completely opposite. The entire thing is complicated because she didn’t mean to hurt him but because of the mass opinion and her racial ignorance in the past, its just too much. And then his mom saying love isn’t everything, he still is mourning his love for Rachel ofc, but love isn’t everything right? Not enough to fix this or reconcile. Just sad over all
@Abigailbooks3 жыл бұрын
I completely agree. I think the fact that her actions weren’t intended to hurt people actually makes it hurt even more. It would be one thing if she went to that party, knew what it meant, didn’t care, and it was coming from a place of racism rather than racial ignorance because then Matt could at least be angry with her. Yet, she’s saying she didn’t think, she didn’t know. So Matt is still hurt, but how is he supposed to be angry with that? It’s kind of like kicking a man when he’s down. I can’t even imagine the nightmare that Matt is in. He’s emotionally closed off from his past traumas, found a woman he thought he could finally start to open up to, just to find out that she’s not racist, but she has taken part in racially insensitive actions, which almost makes the line blurrier between how he’s “supposed to” feel. My heart hurts for Rachael too. She says she didn’t stop to think and realize what she was doing was wrong, and now that has led to her losing who she says was the love of her life. Obviously, not knowing doesn’t make it OK, and you can’t fault Matt for walking away because there are some hurts that need a lot more than and “I’m sorry” to heal. But I also agree with Michelle: I don’t think Rachael is a to the core horrible person. Rachael needs to educate herself, Matt needs to keep working through his traumas, and it’s sad there are a lot of people who aren’t giving either of them the chance to do so.

Most of these people doesn't care about the "race conversation" at all. All they see is a white lady shedding tears (a damsel in distress) and they want to blame Matt for all of her bad behavior. Matt was right; she will have to educate herself about black people and every other race that is not white. Black people are not responsible for white people not knowing the history of America. Their parents and educators should have taught them.

@@Blueeyesinthesky I don't know if Rachel meant to hurt Matt or not but I do one thing; these are the consequences that you have to reap for being ignorant and for not knowing the history of America.

Matt has some serious issues when it's about sharing his real thoughts and emotions. I mean I understand if he wasn't ready for marriage,but wtf he blamed some other girls for not being ready for engagement?! And I honestly feel like he really used the opportunity to break up with Rachel. Like if you love someone,if you feel like she/he is the one, you would do anything to find the way to forgive and support. He never loved her. He was just trying to save his own face and name. I've never cried just from a long moment of silence on this show before, but it was so clear Matt didn't even know where to begin in telling Rachael the scope of his hurt. And it's not a condemnation of who she was three years ago--it's that here and now, though I fully appreciate her apology, she still doesn't understand why he was so hurt. You could see that the connection had just snapped on his end. It proved his mom right--love isn't everything, not when there's a fundamental disconnect in empathy, trust, and experience.
