Since the point of the backrooms is its inescapability, its hard to apply that when someone can just close the game. Thats where a protagonist comes in. We need someone on the same level of reality as the environment (basically, cant escape as easy as us) to get us invested, and a taste of the previous life theyre trying to get back to so we dont devolve into apathy instead of despair.

@cadettrev7622 жыл бұрын
I big one I don’t see often is a lack of linearity. Every game has the floors go in order, but the actual backrooms has a lot more randomness to them. It’d also add replayability, but those are just my 2 cents

There's a few problems with the "expanded lore" I have is that while I do like it. The first game you mention, the complex, is an example of the original concept of backgrounds. Simply being subliminal spaces, no entities or threats. The spaces could be anything! I don’t think it’s stupid. It’s a neat concept for horror. The idea of jarringly being thrown into another realty through no real fault of your own is spooky and gives me weird, existential thoughts. It’s almost Matrix-y in a way.
@JargonMadjin2 жыл бұрын
@@KlutzyNinjaKitty To be fair, the Matrix was a simulation, it was meant to be weird. It's just the wording "no clip out of reality" just sounds dumb to me. Assuming it's a possibility, if you literally "no clip'd" out of reality it's more likely that there would be nothing there at all because you'll be outside reality, at least that's what I've gathered from how it's worded
@KlutzyNinjaKitty2 жыл бұрын
@@JargonMadjin - I know it’s a simulation. That’s what I was referring to. The idea that we, currently, could be in a program with all of the flaws that comes with it. There are a lot of game bugs and glitches that are annoying/amusing from the perspective of someone playing the game. But it would then be terrifying if you saw that happen to someone in-person. I see what you mean about the reality part, though, since reality is defined by what actually exists. Maybe “no-clipping out of our known world” is a better way to phrase it. Because, in some games, you can no-clip to get to areas you normally can’t reach or even find things the developers left behind. It’s still a part of that game’s reality. It’s just hidden from view. Idk if that makes sense.
