I can’t believe they got THE emperor to voice him in this episode. That’s still amazing to me.

It’s amazing how Emperor Palpatine can just take virtually any situation and twist it to his advantage almost instantaneously. He’s virtually unstoppable. It’s like he once said to Darth Maul: *_“No matter how many times you fail, you still never learn this lesson, Maul. There is only one plan - one great design which shall govern the universe - mine.”_* And like he later said to Darth Vader: *_“And you blame ME. As you SHOULD. Because EVERYTHING you have ever done… was according to MY PLAN.”_*

Until, of course, Luke entered the equation, the Rebellion started openly challenging the Empire, and Vader stopped being so predictable. Then Palpatine's foresight began to fail him in spectacular fashion; be it underestimating the Rebellion's ability to rally the locals on Endor and destroy the Second Death Star's shield generator, or completely blocking out the possibility that Vader could love his son more than he feared him. Palpatine was a masterful schemer until he _wasn't,_ and I think his rise to power was a lot more skillful than his holding of it. And make of this next tidbit what you will, but he took control of a Republic that stood for 20,000 years, turned it into an Empire, and ran it into the ground in less than 30 years through a combination of institutionalized corruption, bloated military spending on super weapons that didn't accomplish their goals, and unnecessarily autocratic and cruel policies that bred dissidents *_everywhere._* Doesn't sound like such a clever guy, now does he? He sounds like someone who bit off more than he could chew. Someone who enjoyed the hunt more than the kill. Everything prior to Order 66 was a combination of planning and improv on Palpatine's part. After he became Emperor however, it's *_all_* improv. There's no grand plan, just making the best out of a deteriorating situation that's constantly getting further away from him. Regardless, he's a master at making himself _look_ like he has a plan.

@@DovahFett one of his mistakes that became the empires undoing was keeping incompetent and corrupt people in power or not removing them fast enough.

Now this was an effective use of Palpatine; with the added bonus of Ian McDiarmid reprising his role. He skillfully shifted the blame for Kamino to Admiral Rampart, spun the situation to portray the clones as too dangerous to be trusted (destroying any chance they had at compensation), and used it to force through the Storm Trooper Program. In short, this episode perfectly illustrated how scary Palpatine can be, even without a light saber or lightning.

In the Republic Commando books there was a senator who raised the question about the lacking rights of clones and their lack of a future after the war.

In the Republic Commando books there were also civilians on *_Coruscant_* who didn't know if the Clone Troopers were really clones or not by the time of Order 66. Haven't read those books in years but that detail has always stuck with me.

Yeah, Echo’s skill set is kind of redundant with Tech there so having him leave is better than killing off one of them.

Something occurred to me when I first watched this episode Rebellions are exactly what Palpatine wants He wants the outer rim member states to be afraid, so that they'll approve more and more of his security motions, until he's able to secure his power and dissolve the senate entirely And the Clones provide an easy scapegoat to help in this. With so many of them leaving the army, not only do the rebellions get ready access to experienced soldiers, he gets a face to put to them for his propaganda (And, of course, the Clones knew the Jedi personally. If he can paint them as untrustworthy, people won't believe them if they ever attempt to reveal the truth)

Well, we're halfway through season 2 with the end of this episode! This is another one of my favorites from the entire series. We even got to see the master of manipulation at work. We got a good demonstration that everyone in the Empire is expendable except Palpatine; the leader is all that matters in an autocracy. Plus we got Palpatine himself, Ian McDiarmid, to return and voice the Emperor; any excuse to get another masterful performance from one of my favorite actors in all of Star Wars is one I'm good with. And I already liked Senator Chuchi, but this episode made me respect her a lot more. To not only stand up to the Emperor's plans and his lackeys, but to put your own life on the line multiple times in the name of protecting the clones, who many (at least in the Senate) don't even see as people, is fantastic to see. She seems to have learned a lot from Padme; since we do see them together several times in The Clone Wars, I don't think it's a stretch to say that Padme had taken Chuchi under her wing as a mentor. Now, let's move on to today's fun facts 😀. We see that Omega took a couple of lessons from our Jedi friend Gungi and is trying to meditate, which Echo takes notice of. We also get a mention of Skako Minor and the Techno Union from Echo who, despite the horrors that he faced while a prisoner of Wat Tambor, seems to have worked through most of his trauma with the help of the Batch. We get a great team up between Rex and the Batch in this episode starting with Rex and Chuchi showing the Bad Batch the body of the CX trooper that assassinated the clone whistleblower Slip. While trying to find evidence to expose Rampart and stop the Defense Recruitment Bill from passing, Bail Organa sends Omega and Senator Chuchi to an unlikely ally, former Senator Halle Burtoni from Kamino. She first appeared in season 2, episode 14 of The Clone Wars, "Duchess of Mandalore;" but didn't have a major role until the Senate murder arc, particularly in season 2, episode 15 "Senate Murders" where she was first named. She was the initial suspect in the death of Padme's longtime friend, the Rodian Senator Onaconda Farr. And, as I mentioned, we get an appearance from the Emperor himself voiced by Ian McDiarmid, who played him in the films. It looks like Rampart is taking the blame for Kamino and is going to prison for a long time, but I have a feeling we'll see more of him at some point 😉. Well, I think that's all I've got for this episode. I always love revisiting this little arc, it's one of the examples of political intrigue in Star Wars done right. Next week is going to be season 2 episode 9, "The Crossing" and season 2 episode 10, "Retrieval." See you guys on Tuesday! 😄

*Three* people in the Empire were not expendable: The Emperor, Vader, and Tarkin. Ultimately, the last two were tools as well, but Palpatine would get rid of everyone else before disposing with them.

Darn was busy the day this came out from u guys and forgot XD, I liked this episode I love how palpatine was always some step ahead, that’s why he’s one of my favorite villains. ( in fact for fun me and friends have made good arguments on how palpatine easily could have won in the original trilogy if he used a few more brain cells XD 😈😜😱😉 me and some people I’ve known well for a long time now love making jokes and arguments on media. Now usually I stay pg with any jokes I make XD unless I’m seriously bored 😂 then I’ll just do something stupid in the style of markipliers sense of humor XD. Also I’m just enjoying my Saturday while I wrote this so yeah it’s a lot XD

I do love how Palpatine is portrayed by his original actor in this episode! So menacing, and most reactors I've seen are like the Senate: they just fall silent the second he speaks, and remain that way. It shows how a fictional character can affect real emotions! And about his twist that got the Stormtrooper program approved, as it is said: "the best told lies hold some truth in them." He told the truth, that the clones did indeed destroy their own home because they were ordered to. It's just the "why" that he was deceptive of.

"This IS him better" Still scared of heights. 😂 Palpatine is so good but he bothers me so much! He's the one that gave the order to execute the Jedi to the clones, and now he's spinning it now to make it seem like the very thing he helped get programmed into the clones was not intentional. Completely threw the clones under the bus.

The Emperor is excellent at manipulation, but it's still early days for the Empire and he still has to play the delicate game of juggling the senate to maintain his power, all while slowly eroding at theirs. The Imperial senate is not dissolved entirely until the events of A New Hope. Ian McDiarmid relishes every moment he gets to reprise the role, even in animated form he chews the scenery with a satisfying oily villainy.
