Loved this movie. Patty McCormack still looks beautiful, she is now 70ish. You can see her on an episode of Supernatural tv series from 2012.

Growing up in the 60's, I remember only 2 movies we kids were forbidden to watch (usually ran late at night) - "the Bad Seed" and "Lord of the Flies". Of course we watched them every chance we got! Hmmm, maybe that's why we're kinda warped....

OMG! This is one of my favorite movies. When i saw Orphan and th Good Son, I thought the same thing! Both are good movies but the Bad Seed is the original!

I disagree. I am of the view that Patty McCormack is OUTSTANDING in this film and Nancy Kelly plays her part BRILLIANTLY. There are many facets to the plot and ALL the players contirbute to making this film EXCEPTIONAL.

There should have been a sequel. Continued from where it left off. I wanted to see how the characters react after Rhoda is found. And what about Rhoda's real grandmother? The one she inherited her craziness from. I think they should have done a sequel with her in it. And perhaps she could have had other kids that inherit her murderous ways. A sequel to this could have been a smash hit.

@DestroyerNr55 It's about a little girl Rhoda Penmark who happens to be a serial killer. People seem to die when she wants something they have-such as the little boy, Claude Degal, who won their school's penmanship medal, and a former neighbor where Rhoda's family previously lived who 'accidently' fell down a flight of stairs.

Back when America was an adult oriented culture we understood what would happen if we put kids up on pedestals and worshiped them or if they were victims of abuse. We didn't make excuses or Dr. prescribed drugs ! We used a healthy diet ,discipline and structure in our virtual crime free world, and kids were the respectability of their parents.When our kids were the healthiest fittest and scholastically were the best and brightest in the world not 26 out of 34 ! Now their almost all some version of Rhoda, and all we have is excused instead of the last 2 min of this movie ! lol

I would recommend this film. Children's film- heck no. This is a pyschological thriller/drama/horror film. They don't show a lot but it plays with your mind. It is REALLY messed up- in the good way. If you have seen Orphan, this is where they might have gotten their idea.

'The Bad Seed' is one of the most badly acted films of all time--but, like Valley of the Dolls, its SO unintentionally bad its good! (that's the definition of 'camp', by the way). Hilarious, really. Alone in the cast, only Henry Jones seems to understand that none of this drivel should be taken seriously--and he steals the movie from everyone!! He should have gotten an Oscar nomination!

One of my favorite films. Who cares if it's black and white, from the fifties. Very gripping, and to realize the child is really that evil. Why it was remade is beyond me, also it being compared to The Good Son is kinda annoying.
@DDumbrille12 жыл бұрын
My gawd, that Patty McCormack has to be one of THE worst child actresses ever. The whole film is a mess (Nancy Kelly proves why she never became a star), but at least there are two good perfromances from Eileen Heckart and Henry Jones.

I appreciate your opinion. I just think that McCormack delivers her lines in that stagey overenunciated style that doesn't seem natural at all. Maybe it worked for the stage, but not here. And Nancy Kelly is just so over the top, SO melodramatic, it doesn't come off as credible. But perhaps it didn't come off that way 50+ years ago...I can see how it would've been shocking back then. Would be great if they remade it, updated it... Anyway, I'm sure we'll have to agree to disagree.
