For anyone curious, while the Spot has always been a joke villain, there was one comic where we followed him as he infiltrated a gangster's hideout and coldly murdered everyone there by using his portals, all the while being completely silent. Spiderman arrived just in time to see him leave and he couldn't arrest him. One of the most disturbing and sad comic I've seen. (It's revealed afterwards that he sought revenge against them for killing one of his loved ones and he was silent because of how enraged he was.) So yeah Accross the Spider Verse isn't that far off from how terrifying he can be despite how stupid he can sound.

That was "The Amazing Spider-Man" (1963) #589 - Return of The Spot" Heck, even "Spider-Man The Animated Series S03E10 - The Spot" portrayed him more as a tragic anti-villain than anything else. Some writers will take a villain like Killer Moth from Batman and decide they're a joke villain and treat them just as a disposable henchman. The Spot often gets that treatment but has definitely been given more chances to prove he can be a terrifying threat and given more serious moments than most.

The premise of the Spot is to be a joke villain, not because his power isn't great, but to contrast how alarmingly fast a villain can turn from villain of the week to villain of the year. Portals are a unique case where they can be as hilarious as they are terrifying.

I think the reason that bagel ruin spot life was that when he first sign up, he was in a place of misery but becoming a scientist help him to move on, he had friends, he was respected and he had a nice job, heck in movie spot photo of himself and doc orc was way different to what we see in his origin, he looked like someone who didn't take any care of himself at all and it was only when he moved up as a specialist in dimensions did he took time to shave and cut his hair, then he was hit by a bagel to most that might be small, but he was knocked out, a man knocked out by some bread, he became a joke, so he decided to work late to rebuild his rep, then the accident happen... his life got worse, with no control of his powers he became a bigger joke, and although his college only ment small puns to him he felt hurt, he couldn't find any work and his only family wouldn't look at him and we all know what happens next

Spot doesn’t even need to do much to win a fight, open a portal on someone’s position and you cut them in half. They can’t do anything. Majority of Spot’s attacks are just for show and how he kind of starts enjoying playing with his food. Tho, he doesn’t want civilians to perish as well, which is likely gonna be the “Weakness” Miles will exploit, turning a villain into a bystander or hero.
