One overlooked aspect of the 2000 Ravens defense in this video was its depth--Keith Washington, Larry Webster, Lional Dalton, Cornell Brown, Robert Bailey, Corey Harris, and James Trapp were excellent in their roles and allowed the starters(especially the veterans on the defensive line) to stay fresh throughout entire games. This is a big reason why those great RBs weren't ever able to get going against them.

No 100 yard rushers during the season. The 2019 Ravens allowed four 100 yard rushers including huge days from Nick Chubb and Derrick Henry in lopsided losses to the Browns and Titans, respectively. Ravens didn't allow 100 yards from the following: Jerome Bettis in two games Corey Dillon in two games Eddie George in three games Curtis Martin Fred Taylor Steven Davis Emmitt Smith Mike Anderson Tiki Barber Tyrone Wheatley Lamar Smith

Nice video and good narration of the 2000 season very much worth listening to. 2 comments: 1. Most comparisons of the great defenses of all time want to exclude the playoffs, but that's where the 2000 Ravens really shined. They allowed 8.35 offensive points per game in 20 games including the playoffs and excluding 2 INT return TDs by the Titans and Dixon's SB KOR TD. 2. The notion that the Ravens had ONLY a great 1-11 on defense is a mild mischaracterization. The Ravens played 34.5% of their snaps with 6 or 7 DBs and are one of the few teams to play a substantial amount of quarter (62 snaps with 7 DBs). The Ravens manufactured 9 turnovers in those 62 snaps and 16 more takeaways in 339 dime snaps. Corey Harris had one of the best years ever by a Ravens dime back, and James Trapp and Robert Bailey were effective journeymen used brilliantly by Marvin Lewis.

Thank you so much for making your list. I liked it, especially I appreciate you putting the 2002 Bucs. In my mind, I always thought the Gang Green defense of the Eagles in the late 80s and early 90s was the best, but admittedly, a lot of that is from intimidation that could not work today. I really liked McAlister and Boulware from that D as it's hard to argue against the 2000 Ravens. Thanks again and hopefully there will be a 2020 NFL season.

I’m glad that you mentioned that they mostly went up against mediocre offenses and QBs. That knocks them down a peg in my opinion. To me the 2015 Broncos are the gold standard for modern defense when you consider they had to beat 2 future HOF QBs and the league MVP in the SB. My favorite Ravens defense was 2006 under Rex but Manning was just too good that year. 2000 was before the rise of Brady and Manning and after the retirement of Elway and Montana.
@90sSportsNostalgia3 жыл бұрын
Great comment. I really enjoyed reading it. That AFC Central in the late 90s and early 2000s was really tough and physical as Brunell was really the only good QB in the division at the time. But great point about the 2015 Broncos considering it might be more difficult to measure how quality a defense is in today's era in comparison to defenses in the past. But thank you so much for your comment and watching the video.

An additional fact ... Art Modell gave the records and colors to the city of cleveland , classless Irsay of the colts said screw you Baltimore and gave nothing
@90sSportsNostalgia4 жыл бұрын
What's going on todd? Technically, those records should have gone to Baltimore, but I'm glad they didn't. I absolutely can't stand when teams relocate. I wasreally disappointed when the Oilers left and recently disappointed when the Chargers left. I am also not a fan of the Irsays. I can't stand when Irsay tweets. But I'm glad the records stayed in Cleveland. Enjoy the Super Bowl.
@crosstatt74419 ай бұрын
By no means did Art Modell willingly give those records back. Don’t get me wrong, he was a pretty generous guy, but definitely not on that. In fact, we Clevelanders had to fight him in a lawsuit to get back the name. However, he would’ve had to be a party in order to give them back. He broke a lease with the stadium, but it was it terrible condition. It just bothers me how he went about moving that really hurts. He should’ve been more up front. However, there was an agreement and Cleveland accepted it. He was allowed to take the personnel and contracts with him to Baltimore. However, he had to leave the IP in Cleveland. We could’ve kept them in Cleveland only until 1998, but after that, they could leave. That’s why the Cleveland Browns still exist today.

@@hammerotruth1372 Oh, don’t get me wrong, he took the stadium off of Cleveland’s hands because he thought he was doing it a favor. He wasn’t the best with finances, but knew life was difficult, so he wanted to help. He admitted on “Mike Trivosonno’s Show” that he regretted from the start. Although Art did some wonderful things for Cleveland, a part of me will always hurt about how he went about moving. That doesn’t mean that he was wrong on everything, though. Thank you so much for the comment, I enjoyed reading it. I remember that game. That game always stuck with me because James Allen had well over 100 yards rushing. Interesting things to note about that 5-game stretch where the 2000 Ravens offense didn't score a touchdown: first, the team actually won two of those games. Perhaps more impressively, though, over the entire 5-game run the Ravens were outscored by just a single point. Without scoring any touchdowns. Insane. One other point to bring up: you mentioned in passing what a talent Corey Dillon was in that era, and how the Ravens contained him that season. Well, the Bengals as a whole were pretty awful in 2000, but they had an extremely good rushing attack which finished the year ranked 2nd in the league, including a monumental 407-yard outing against the Denver Broncos (the Broncos were the 7th-ranked rushing _defense_ that season). Only 3 teams managed to hold the Bengals under 100 yards of rushing in 2000: Jacksonville held them to 71 in week 2, Tennessee limited them to 60 yards in week 15, and the Ravens held them to just 48 yards. _In weeks 4 and 10 combined._
