As if there needed to be a reminder of Paul Simon's genius, the line, "Seasons change with the scenery, weaving time in a tapestry, won't you stop and remember me?" is just magical.

Taking a 1960's song by Paul Simon and giving it an 80's vibe, then playing it again in the 2000's with more mature voices. This song is timeless. Between Simon's lyrics and amazing guitar riffs and the tight harmonies....amazing work.

The Bangles have three major songs. Hazy Shade is a cover of Simon and Garfunkel, Egyptian was written by Liam Sternberg, and Eternal Flame was written along with Steinberg and Kelly who wrote a bunch of songs in that period. Not sure what you mean about "actual real musicians" when they didn't write most of their biggest hits. Also, can people PLEASE stop responding to every KZbin video by claiming the band is "underrated?" The Bangles had three hits in a very short period then disappeared. I'd say they're properly rated.

@historyoflol56113 жыл бұрын
What would they thought of a four chick band playing their song??
@knoahbody693 жыл бұрын
@@historyoflol5611 I think they S and G were experimenting. It sounded more like the Rolling Stones and the Beatles made a song. The S and G Harmonies are there. The beat, the vibe, is something else. Dolly Parton was asked about Whitney's version of her song, and she said "It's great! She can send me the checks!" I'm sure they feel the same way.
@ostrich95253 жыл бұрын
Bangles version charted #2, Simon's #17 & he retained rights. There is an interview of the Bangles about meeting him at an event and the discussion. He was happy as it appeared in a movie and Bangles introduced the song to a new generation. More recognition for him and money. Like the guy who wrote "I Love Rock and Roll". Joan Jett made it a hit. Later Spears and Cyrus introduced it to new generations and audiences. Made money everytime, since he retained his rights. Plus it was used in TV and Movies.
@bricefleckenstein96663 жыл бұрын
Given Simon's reaction to the Disturbed version of "Sounds of Silence", I don't think he'd have ANY issue with this very well done cover of a very NONtypical S&G song.

Funny story: Go back and listen to the Bangles original recording.(not Simon and Garfunkel), the final chorus begins with one revolution by Susanna's vocals isolated. Other than these 2 lines, the entire song was the 4 of them in harmony. The powers that be really wanted to drive a wedge between Susanna and the rest of the girls. The producer had that tweek, the whole song was supposed to be harmonized vocals.
@Buc_Stops_Here2 жыл бұрын
@@chuckeecheeze4649 Interesting, never knew that. The wedge was done by producers earlier on and well documented - Walk Like An Egyptian. On that song we all know, the producer made all four of them try out for a stanza (there were only three). Debbie lost out, and the other three got to sing on the song. That put them on the path towards breaking up originally. Time healed the wounds, and they got back together close to the turn of the century for one more album which had one top 10 hit.
