@@dampergoldenrod4156 First, we'll start with the name. They were known as "The Beatles." Second, all real Bangles fans know that The Bangles were huge fans of The Beatles and were inspired by them. They naturally had a 1960s sound to their songs. Last, The Beatles had a "CENTER OF THE MUSIC WORLD," chilly, sandy, Liverpool melody they created. The Beatles had a lot to do with the gals that became The Bangles.

Susana was influenced by Syndicate of Sound, Beau Brummels, The Blues Magoos, and of course, Beatles and Bryds. She likes cool, obscure bands. She Loved the band Love who made one of the greatest records ever .. Forever Changes. She tells a story about how an ad mentioning Love got her the big push that lead to her meeting the Bangles. She wrote: I always thought of the Bangles as a club band. I think of the Bangles as a garage pop band and the songs we wrote in the early days are the truest, most authentic songs, perhaps, that the Bangles ever recorded. They really capture the essence of who we are… still. Even though it was definitely who we were back then, it’s still, in some ways, more than any of the other stuff - including some of the hits - most representative of what we cared about and what we wanted for the band.

The Bangles are still performing a few shows every year, mostly near their home base in LA. Michael Steele left the band ( from most reports, amicably) in 2004 and is now semi retired in Oregon (i believe). They used a series of different bassists for about 10 years (including a couple guys) before original Bangles/Bangs bassist Annette Zilinskas rejoined about 2016.

Steele played in many Los Angeles bands between 1976 and 1983, including the power-pop outfit Elton Duck (1979-80), an early version of Slow Children (1979), Toni and the Movers with Jack Sherman (1980-81), the improvisational band Nadia Kapiche (1981) and a brief period as bass player in avant-garde rock outfit Snakefinger.[10] Focusing on her musical technique and frequently playing live,

Susanna Hoffa initially met up with Michael years before she was Vicki’s roommate. Right before she called Vicki she asked someone in the LA scene who the best female bassist in town was and the answer was Michael Steele. She contacted Michael but she was still burned on her Runaways experience and did not want to be in an all female group at that point. So she actually could’ve been the first bassist and founding member of the Bangles if she accepted in the beginning, instead of Annette Zalinskas.

Interestingly, "I was your Butch and you were touched" is changed to "And for so long, 'till we touched". That line never seems to be preserved in cover versions, either because it's misheard or because it's difficult to decipher the meaning.

Guitar solo is a one-off. Who played it? Can guitarists out there give reactions to the technique.
@jamesmurray68832 ай бұрын
I always assumed this was done with some sort of time compression software or maybe just playing the original tape fast onto the master (like the piano solo in In My Life), since this recorded around 1985.
@Paddy_G9 күн бұрын
Only David Khane knows for sure. Possibly Rusty Anderson as he was credited for guitar work on the album. I've read interviews with Rusty and he mentioned working on Different Light, but he did not make mention of this particular song. The mystery remains. As Captain Kirk once said, "KHANE!!!!!!"
