Saw Barbie twice, I think it is better than oppenheimer. Ken is absolute awesome. The movie is actually a very clever critique, the end seems glorius but it is quite tragic and horrifying. That is how the movie will be remembered.

It's funny at the end they thought it was supposed to have a genuine meaning for women empowerment. Silly movie, it doesn't realize it was meant to be a comedic play on the fantasy that women pursuing things men naturally are equipped to do will satisfy them. We all know it doesn't.

Agreed - Carrie Gress’ take here is a bit underdeveloped and misses some bigger themes of the movie. I personally think Barbie shows a certain collapse of the feminist ideology into nihilism.

The media illiteracy here is ASTOUNDING. I’m blown away by the lack of effort put into analyzing films by people who claim Barbie was some sort of propaganda piece. I know some people are reluctant to admit that filmmaking is an art form, but it is, and like all pieces of art that are culturally entwined, some analysis other than surface-level assumptions is required.

1:02 That's literally the POLAR opposite message if you look at the actual progression of the storyline. It's just not super in your face, but if you just take a second to think about what things are leading to what outcomes in the movie, it's basically begging for patriarchy the entire movie, and the plot leads you from feminism into appreciating and/or sympathizing with men slightly more and seeing the importance of having children subtly at the end.

SPOILER: If the main message is that there’s order when women are in charge, then why does the main character (Barbie) choose to leave Barbieworld after the Barbies take over again? Michael Knowles and Eudaimpnia have the correct take on this movie: it’s a rejection of Utopia and it’s pro-life.

I agree. As per the men in the film, I think it does a great job at showing how feminism turns men into pathetic simps, and perhaps how these modern "red pill" guys emerged as an extreme counter to said simps.
@andreasm5770
@andreasm5770 9 ай бұрын
I totally agree. I liked the movie, I interpreted it as a criticism of both extremes. It doesn't present Barbieland as the ideal - it's showing how this flipped fully female-run society is just as bad as a fully male-run society. And in the end Barbie chooses not to stay in the female-run society. Personally I found it not so feminist and quite funny.

The one who saved Barbie is the same one to say women can be whatever they want. They define themselves. This movie was not based at all. It's confused. Ken is doing the same thing. We don't define ourselves, we receive our identity from God.

But it also showed how it's not good when either gender dominates the other-- Kens realized he was unhappy and then took over when the Barbies ruled and then when the Barbies "restored order", Barbie rejects that to come to the real world, and the final scene shows how she chose to become who she was made to be-- a women, even a mother without having to reject her femininity.

The barbie movie is ineteresting because it's the most barebones retelling of Baudrillard's Procession of Simulacra. Because the movie itself is only the simulacrum of a movie, it has no real substance; This means that everyone projects their own feelings onto it because it's meaningless otherwise.

Thinking they're different is like believing African Americans aren't descendants of Africans.Further, "Genetic studies indicate that Ashkenazim have both Levantine and European (mainly southern European) ancestry. The Michael Knowles and Connor Tomlinson (Lotus Eaters in UK; he's the token Catholic) take is that it's a secretly based movie. It's easy to argue that the moral is actually in favor of traditional families, and Ken is a masculinist icon/legend, and they basically just take you through the journey starting from the default NPC left/lib presuppositions to get the NPCs on board, and then subtly inject the morals for whoever is non-NPC enough to be receptive enough to them, and if you're already based (in reality) then you can sense the undertones if not pre-convinced the makers are your enxmy.
