I'll die on this hill but IBS WAS PRETTY GOOD BEFORE CHAMPIONS !! Replayable content Nice maps A lot of rewards Varied instanced PVE content A lot of diverse ambiance More grind, I might be in the minority but it makes me play more I'm hopeful for EOD, the game is going in a good direction
@beneteus38333 жыл бұрын
i totally agree the maps were some of hte better living world once, and the other systems they integrated are good and have even more potential with strikes - even in champions the systems are good, just the story was squandered and DRMs got to a point where they got to repetetive for me. But 10 man Fights of story bosses - great Replayable Story Dungeon type Content - good, i would have just liked a bit more "normal" instanced in between. Instanced World Bosses that you can do when ever with a group / guild - POGCHAMP Story in champions - felt like they skiped a Destroyer Saga and suddenly had to get in Primordus

I definitely will simp the icebrood saga and say that it has given me more gameplay hours than seasons 3, 4 combined just because of the mere replayability! Great podcast!
@kylevanderwolf44463 жыл бұрын
My thing is. Maybe it’s better in the long run that they’re wrapping up dragon stuff. When for one season Palawa Joko is a more interesting antagonist than all of the dragons combined. Maybe they want to get back to the sort of….world issues instead of cosmic level ones

Same. The Charr civil war in IBS is actually my favorite part of the saga. I like tangible conflict that actually has consequences instead of wipe everything out of existence
@jelenag61123 жыл бұрын
imo IBS was pretty great until champions. We had map variety with Grothmar, Bjora and DWC. Bjora had some amazing map aesthetics and design between meta and strange events that would pop up on players randomly adding to the spooky northern atmosphere It’s obviously everything got tossed once expack was for certain, hyped for it but hoping it’s good for what they did to post-champions IBS

GW2 has got it right: MMO is there to play with as many friends as you have, from 0 to 1 to 2 to 10, and then to show off the STUFF you got, and check out stuff other people have. :D Loving how DRM scales from 1 to 5, honestly wish more content was this way! I like the state of the game and recognize value in harder content for people who have time/desire to focus on it. I think having tons of content for everyone and options for getting things, looots of things, is a good place for a game to be in. Atm am doing DRM achievements with my friend, and how they scale to 2 people in challenge modes is very cool, very enjoable.

Guiid hall decoration won't replace housing for most people I feel, because there's lack of ownership. Most players in guild won't have decor permissions, and the hall is huge, so that feel of creating yoour perfect coorner - most players don't have the opportunity. I get that as guild owner you might be very content, but it is not feasible to give 500 peoople permission to decorate and have them step on each other toes. Housing can bring: a) multiple properties b) your own thing to decorate/feel like you own the style/what is in it/build it up c) tons of replayability of content to get those items (if they make a lot account bound and something you have to earn)

As much as people speculate what the next big feature after gliding and mounts will be for EoD, imo by far the best thing for the game would be if it just came with a big content feature pack of Alliances, Fractals, Raids, Guild Missions, PvP Maps/Tournaments and replayable group/CM Story missions - instead of just keeping up/continuing the feature and currency bloat of the game, having a million convoluted things all shallow as a puddle. I don't even want to imagine how much of a nightmare all these different disconnected systems and currencies and content avenues must be for new players who weren't around for the introduction of each of them piecemeal. GW2 doesn't need more features, it needs a vision/direction, a merging of all this crap into clear defined content avenues with intuitive reward structures and goals to work towards, and it's good to go. A clear defined endgame and a massive content drop is all it needs as selling point imo - much more so than you can now fish or have a house, but sorry, all the actual gameplay with Dungeons, Fractals, Raids, WvW, Strikes, PvP, Guild Missions, DRM's and on and on are still dead, enjoy autoattacking through this story, buy premium fishing rods and house decorations on the gemstore and then quit, thanks.

1:44:30 All banter considered; I'd expect something like this if they're brave enough to add a new playable race. With the amount of work that would be needed to allow a new race to experience the *existing* story content; I wouldn't be surprised if they locked it to Cantha onward. Which is partly why I don't expect a new playable race in GW2. One path is too much work and the other is bad PR (because they're limited accessibility).

I honestly think Anet has being doing exactly what the player base wanted. Up until pre-IBS. We all know IBS was butchered into what it is now. The Scorcher saga (Primordius) and all that content canceled and all. So new tengu/koda/icebrood races? I'm sure will be an option. The models are there already and their starting point are right up there in core Tyria. So all they need is a new tutorial starting. A convenient new starting more up to date with the new living world and matchedd for new payers to jump in and not feel so delayed or left behind of the actual story. Specially with Steam partnership. Game will flood for many months like never before.

Popped back on. Just to say also, gw2 isn’t old by mmorpg standards. No game can be “old” while WoW is still populated because of how old WoW is. Gw2 is still up there in age with ffxiv(which they’ve said they have several years of stuff planned for). So I’m not sure age is catching up at all. Games are more profitable with longevity now and launches and sequels and reboots are too costly for companies to bother producing.

I wonder how it would effect Firebrand if they made it so that you could only have one tome at a time unless you took a specific trait that made it so that you could have two. Would it completely gut Firebrand? Would it still be busted if it didn't have access to all of its tomes? They could put the trait a place where it wouldn't be convenient for cFB's to bring two tomes so that you would have to trade some damage to bring the heal tome or the reflect/aegis/stab tome. Thinking of WvW you could either bring two tomes or you could bring the tome that gives you more charges in your tome.
@Sno4opy3 жыл бұрын
I really like this idea. It could be something like daredevil where your final trait decides what tome you bring. Then they could buff the page count, or make it resource-based kind of like holosmith or revenant. Another option would be to spread the tome traits between tiers, so you have a choice to bring a tome or power-up the remaining ones

I'd be interested to know what you think about the idea of profession identity; that is how classes should feel distinct from each other. As time has gone on, it seems Anet is trying to make more classes be able to fill roles in raids/team content, they continue to add qualities to the different classes that were previously the 'purview' of a certain class. (example would be Mesmer was the 'portal specialist', but now there's 2 other classes that have some kind of portal mechanic) I realize that Anet, through the lack of the formal trinity, has always said any class can always to anything, though they recognize that some classes are better at it. But, those lines seem more blurred as time goes on, if they continue this direction in balancing classes.

I disagree on your take on the simplification / railroading of games. I think it's not so much a "this is what gamers want" as it is a diversification of the people that play games. If you want a hit game nowadays, you basically have to appeal to as many people as possible. Gamers just getting older is also a thing that plays a role I think. A kid does have the time to just no-life a game forever and get really into it, an adult usually has a job, probably a family and really doesn't have much time for games, so a streamlined experience does make more sense. Add to that the way that modern game hype-cycles and FOMO work and there is basically always a new game coming out everyone is talking about and it's no wonder people don't really flock to games that require a ton of time investment. Oh and of course devs have figured out that grindy Skinnerbox design is a waaay easier way to manipulate people into spending more time (and money) with your game instead of actually designing and maintaining a deep and interesting game long term. In the end, it's the same issue as with raids in GW2, the target audience exists, but it is too small to justify the expenses in the minds of the people in charge.

Teapotman is right, the gameplay is the best part of the game. One issue though is that for new players, core gameplay is just "good" while elite specs makes it great. Why not go nuts?
