I’m going to go on record as an only child and say that I was never bored or lonely growing up. I made friends, learned to entertain myself and grew up just as socially literate as people with multiple siblings.

The thing I like about the Bates family is how involved the parents are with their kids and how all of their kids are very kind, compassionate, and mature.

I follow this show in a french TV, I think the kids are respectful and mature because they are far from any bad influence (TV, internet, School) they are just growing following the path of their parents, their unic reference, fortunately for them, the parents are good persons. The kids listen always what the parents are saying and respect them...and this is just amazing nowadays.

Not entirely true. You only see what occurs on television and it's scripted more than you realize. I'm sure Michelle works her butt off as well. None of the Duggar girls seem to be resentful or angry that they had to help out either. If they hated it so much, you would think they would do anything and everything to prevent repeating the same cycle. Nope. They're all getting married and having kids quite young, so obviously they enjoy the lifestyle.

As someone who is part of a big family, I have seven brothers and sisters, I can tell you that we older ones didn't mind helping with the younger ones most of the time. To people who only have 1 or 2 siblings they probably think its hell but its no big deal to fix your little siblings a bowl of cereal or to get them dressed. I know others in large families and they didn't see it as a big deal either. Really, I rather see a family of 18 well behaved kids than to see a family of 2 kids who run around drinking and getting knocked up.

The Bates are such a loving and supportive family, both parents are hands on, telling each how much they are loved and special to them. Unlike the Duggars who seem more distant, with their Mom describing her children as ‘buddies’, she is the babies first buddy until it’s weaned then it goes to the next eldest child to be their buddies, only having ‘side hugs’ and of course not protecting their daughters from being molested by their eldest sons. The Bates have never had a bad thing said about them, obviously no-one is perfect but the Bates are more loving.

Now that I'm older, the younger ones all make sure I have anything I need, treat me with such love, still make time to be with me. They are such a joy to me! My mom was the same- she had older siblings who cared for her, & she was devoted to them forever. It's a shame you haven't had that, but many families do.

Uhm, they are Gothardites (cult), Gill (the dad) covered up the sexual abuse the leader of this cult committed against young girls and women and even sent his own daughters to work with him. And try reading the Pearl's book about training up a child. Oh, and the parents quit their jobs so never provided for the kids. A lot of it comes from the (at the time) teenage son. These are not people who should be having children.

@Margarita1988
@Margarita1988 6 жыл бұрын
I don't think you read what I wrote. I never said there is anything wrong with a big family. I said there is something wrong with a man that quits his job and lets his teenaged son take financial care of the family. A man who follows a cult leader, a man who knows the cult leader abuses young women and covers it up, a man who still sends his daughters to work with the cult leader, a man who raises his children via the Pearls book of abuse. And now he makes money by selling his childrens privacy on television. Not a good man.

He has not worked for the tree service for many years. Maybe some of the younger sons have taken it over but that still doesn't make Gil the provider. The sons are. I am glad you are feeling so optimistic about Gil and his child rearing abilities. Knowing what I know about them and the Gothard cult that Gil is a leader in (not just a random member) I don't have that same level of confidence.
@rachelc3535

Andrea Mendenhall, before the show when they just had the tree"business" they routinely borrowed money from the teenaged Lawson because they didn't have enough to care for their family. They don't have medical insurance and rely on the ER, costing the public more money. Gil is a sucky excuse for a provider.

I come from a family of 10. Although I love having all the siblings, I think it's important for mom and dad to be in sync before having a house full of children. My mom was a beautiful, awesome mother. Although my dad took great care of us as far as making sure we had clothes on our backs, food and shelter, he was an alcoholic and was violent when he was drunk; therefore, creating chaos in most of my siblings. Thank God dad finally quit drinking, but most of the damage was already done.

Do you not realize that these kind of families are one of the reasons the world is too crowded!? Heck, they don't even have the brink of diseases or poverty to control them! By the time they actually do get one (which most likely relates to old age) they may have already made 20 more unnecessary children to this world, assuming that they all copied their parent's ways. Since this timeline we live in are (sadly are nearly considered despite the chaos going around) the times of peace, we don't need more kids at all!

PianoAnime (^-^) Oh the irony. One of these days a flu epidemic like that of 1917 will hit. Families like this will have an incredible advantage as their immune systems will be far more advanced than people from small families. Also, the birthrate of the USA is far below replacement. That means this family has merely replaced a bunch of people who chose not to have kids. Darwin had 10 and would be proud of this family as they appear healthy and intelligent.
@utubetommy

+PianoAnime (^-^) You worry too much and believe everything the anti-humanists tell you. When you speak of others as disposable, ask yourself why do you think YOU are so special. Perhaps YOU are unnecessary and shouldn't have been born. You take up space just like everyone else, and believe me, there is nothing any more special about you than any other human on earth.
@Trixie91
@Trixie91 7 жыл бұрын
Just because you can have that many children doesn't mean you have to. Even if you can provide them financially there is no way you can provide all their emotional needs!
@utubetommy
@utubetommy 7 жыл бұрын
Perhaps it's their capacity to love one another that makes them unique. My mother is 93 years old, born in 1923 and one of 18 children. My sister and I spent many happy holidays and special occasions with our grandparents, parents and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Never once did we look at one another as the "one too many". When we gathered at Gram & Gramps house, it was always a special time. As for emotional needs, oftentimes children from single child families are far less well adjusted in society than those who have learned to live together and share. Being an only child or child from a small family doesn't guarantee that your parents are any better or worse than other parents at fulfilling your emotional needs. Sometimes it just means the parents are far more focused on "things" rather than on their children, and children frequently take their cue from their parents. One more thing... it is the capacity to love your children that will fulfill their emotional needs more than anything else. My grandparents were low income people with little education, but they were rich in the one thing that they passed onto their children and subsequent generations... the capacity to Love. You cannot put a quantitative price on that.

Sheesh, if you read some of these comments, people act like a child is a disease! Such dark hearts. Someone actually said to have the kids watch tv or use the internet "to keep them busy." These kids are too busy developing their talents and unselfish attitudes to worry about being lazy in front of the tv or 'net. Some are saying these parents are "selfish?" Sorry, but all they do is give, give, give to their beloved offspring, and budget wisely to provide for them on one income so Mom is available. That's being others-focused, not selfish! The ones who cut themselves off from making this level of love possible because they don't want to cover the financial expense, that's what I call selfish. I bet he adjusted his job life to accommodate the expanding family. Another unselfish decision. Someone called them careless. Training them in music, academics, household chores, getting along requires amped-up levels of CARING, not "carelessness." They buy a bus to transport everyone. That's careful, not careless. I see nothing but love in the many decisions they're making to raise the brood God gave them. Health-wise? It's only natural. The human body is designed to keep reproducing for thirty years, so obviously those responsible enough to care for their growing family are proving it can be done, and well! BTW, he's supporting a large family w/a business that does NOT require an expensive college degree, and he's training his boys to do the same. Very wise financial move there.

Um, no dude. It is selfish to have a bunch of kids because humans have already caused mass extinction of the beautiful creatures on our planet whether it be by hunters and poachers or climate change. I've done my research: www.techtimes.com/articles/64542/20150630/humans-cause-of-extinction-of-nearly-500-species-since-1900.htm www.usnews.com/news/blogs/data-mine/2015/06/19/75-percent-of-animal-species-to-be-wiped-out-in-sixth-mass-extinction I know that you probably don't give a crap about animals dying but it will affect humans in the future. Think about the food chain: If the predator of a prey goes extinct, the prey will be overpopulated and eat THEIR prey to extinction and so on and so forth. So yeah we're really screwed if everyone has 20 kids like these people. More people= more electricity being used, more water being used, and more cars being driven. All of this obviously contributes to climate change and resource depletion unless we get our acts together which will probably never happen because the US is too money hungry.

If the Bateses family can make time for each and every one of their 18 children, I don't see why the Duggar family can't do it (Duggar family does not give each children personal time). I know with the Duggar family, mom can't always be there for every kid (that's why they have the buddy system), but the Bateses family made it possible. Just saying.

Nice family; I pray that they keep walking with the Lord and bringing their children up Biblically. I know it's alot of work, but it's worth it. Children are a blessing and it's nice to see parents that know that and act on it. Also, ABC did a decent job of covering the pros and cons, and there are some, but again, it's worth it.

I’ve watched Carlin’s YT channel (The Stewart Fam), and I’ve got to say that their family dynamic is something to strive for. They are all so close and loving even as adults. And now are all having children of their own. Don’t know how I came across them, but I love watching! Can’t say much about the Duggar’s though because of the recent stuff that’s gone on. Sad and disappointing.

That's not a Duggar thing, it''s an ATI thing. ATI (The Advanced Training Institute) is the homeschooling organization the Bates and Duggars are a part of. My family used to be in the organization too. It's part of a larger organization called IBLP (Institute in Basic Life Principles). A lot of the families are part of the Quiverful movement, and some just have larger families. The smiling thing is normal in ATI circles. And I think it's kinda creepy too, lol! =)

everyone complains about how these kind of families are overpopulating the planet, and yet they forget to acknowledge that these kids are not as brainwashed as some of the other kids which only may have 1-3 siblings. As you all watched in the video they do not watch the tv nor do they have cell phones, or social media let alone spare time in the computers, which all those three elements i mentioned are one of the most powerful source of brainwashing, especially for kids and young adults.

What does this family or any family part of a movement have to do with you or any other woman that doesn't want to be married with many children? If their choice is to live their life that way, it has nothing to do with women's rights; it has to do with a woman's choice. If women want this life, then so be it; if they don't, then don't. You have a right to your opinion, but they're not busting into your home and telling you to do it, so don't feel so threatened. You don't know them.

I so enjoy this family ..wholesome, God loving, nurturing ..plus I read all children are encouraged to pursue their education after home schooling ..to parent so many children with the goal of ensuring each child becomes responsible, organized, multitasking, self confident, tolerant, self sufficient and resourceful young adults, the parents must totally trust God to provide them with good health and daily resources to meet the family's daily needs . Mt parents both come from large families ..maternal 16 children, paternal 20 children (first 10 children are all girls raised on a farm) lol ..it makes for mega cousins ..the best when we re-unite ..moi

they are a BAD EXAMPLE to society. How are they giving back to society? It would been MUCH more a blessing to adopt 20 kids who have no love, home or support and are in orphanges or on the street, than be practicing debauchery and hedonism practices in their life. They would of set a better example to society if they were like the HASEMEYER family who adopted more than 30 kids where they own neighbors decided to follow their footstep and change the world!! This shows TRUE LOVE with no limits!

We actually do teach it as a secular theory. But we also teach creation science , which has just as much evidence ( that always gets overlooked or isn't even known about by secular people for some reason), and it's our belief that creation science is the truth.
@mtnkat47
@mtnkat47 6 жыл бұрын
Louisa Capell, wow, I can't even. According to REAL scientists, not ones that are paid to push religious propaganda, there is absolutely ZERO evidence to support any part of the creation story. To take the Bible at face value as fact is just ignorant. Even during the time it was written the people it was intended for knew it wasn't factually accurate. It's like our myths and fairy tales; stories told to teach a lesson. As well as to skew history to make the Hebrew people much more worldly significant than they ever actually were.
@louisacapell
@louisacapell 6 жыл бұрын
mtnkat47 lol. Ok. I'm sure youve got lots of evidence for your emotional opinions. No one ever took holy writ at face value....lol. that's cute. Actually its sad that you think this. Education is so important, and your comments prove that. It's sad really how culturally illiterate so many people are.
@mtnkat47
@mtnkat47 6 жыл бұрын
Louisa Capella: 1) Ironic that you lecture me on education with a comment riddled with grammatical errors. I have a bachelors degree, what are your education credentials? 2) I challenge you to cite even ONE reputable source that supports there being actual scientific evidence to support the creation story. You can’t, because there isn’t one. If you’re at all willing to step out of your bubble of ignorance, I suggest you read Bill Nye’s “Undeniable”. It presents all the scientific evidence, yet keeps the language at a low high school level which you so obviously require.
