I love how Batman is more or less completely in control here, the entire time, whereas Penguin is freaking out, yelling at other cars, and weaving back and forth. My favorite is when Penguin shoots an entire clip into the window and Batman just stares him down the entire time. It’s not a question of IF he’ll catch you, it’s only a question of WHEN. Plus the Batmobile is so damn cool. Nolan’s was an government-contracted project that required an entire R&D department, while this is a frankly insane armored-up muscle car with the equivalent of a jet engine in the back made by one dude in his basement. It’s scary not because it looks like a tank, but because the guy who made it is clearly unhinged, and he’s coming for YOU.

The way that Penguin-flip was filmed was so genius. You start with a wheel-mounted shot of penguin's car getting rammed by the batmobile, then the camera follows the wheel as it starts to fly into the air. Cut to Penguin's interior. You get the sense that he's rotating, but you aren't sure how severe it is. Cut to the wheel-mounted camera on the batmobile, as it swings around and reveals the highway to us, just before you see Penguin's spinning car drop into frame. The chase had a great way of building suspense and awe, even after an initial collision took place, such as with the semi trucks. Great stuff.

But rubber bullets seem like an item very high up on his "needed to be batman list". I know I'm working off of my own thoughts, and can't properly convey them because ultimately I'm using imagination, but knowing this is batman MK1. Still starting out. It seems to me like granted maybe not the full on tank batmobile we know, but a vehicle a bit more complex nonetheless. Being as he ain't exactly experienced yet, it just doesn't sit right with me that he'd opt to depend on a box with no defence other then armour and an exposed engine block. It does not seem right. There's absolutely no defence for the vehicle which I can't say this enough (other than the armour plating) is his lifeline. Batman, at the beginning of his story or not, is a calculated character who at no point seems like someone who'd simply rely on such a under utilised over exposed piece of equipment. Its just as well he only had to drive through a crash and some explosions. Because if it was heavily armed men with small arms and RPGs, that batmobile would not have lasted. The window nearly disintegrated had penguin not emptied the clip. Its clearly a characteristic in this batmobile to be somewhat weak. But again. That in and of itself seems like a complete oversight in terms of the batman character. His lifeline should always logically be the most weaponised piece of equipment he has.

The sparse diologue in this scene I think is often overlooked, but pairs so perfectly with the visuals. Having penguin say, "I got you, you freakin' psycho" before the batmobile emerges from the flames is utterly chilling - it cements the image of the Batman in the minds of criminals like the penguin. In reality? Batman is an insane person in a bat costume - but that makes him even scarier, espeically to people like the penguin. He can try anything - he can shoot him, stab him, beat him, or blow him up with a tanker trailer (because thats what it takes to kill a man) - it doesn't matter. Favorite scene by a landslide, the Riddler interrogation comes close, but this is the best Batmobile chase we've ever had on screen. The score is perfect, the sound design is impeccable and every cut to the exterior with the cars tearing through the rainy traffic is spot-on, 10/10 scene.

The sound design is incredible in this scene. One of the elements I noticed is that Penguin’s car sounds like it is at the very limit of it’s top end. Screaming the revs out in the red zone. - While the Batmobile’s engine sounds deep, throaty, and nowhere close to trying too hard. Like it’s got much, much, MUCH more it could go in torque and power before it tops out. It’s the automotive equivalent to “Do you even lift, bro?” 🤣

One of the most visually stunning and expertly shot car chases of all time. Matt Reeves puts you right in the shoes of both penguin and Batman, making you feel penguin's fear and Batman's frustration. This chase was so realistic and intense, truly one of the best moments in the film.

That moment the Batmobile flies out of the flames, Penguin's face says it all. "This guy isn't human!" This movie did a great job showing us a still growing Batman, who truly is just a normal man. But it also gives us the growth of him becoming more of legend. His disappearing acts throughout, his bulletproof suit, and his Batmobile are just the start.

@@mscooldeadly Well, I guess you wanted more explosions and more barrell rolls, but the real tour de force of this car chase is how every shots stay coherent. It is a very difficult and rare thing to see in movies. Usually they take shortcuts or whatever to hide the flaws, but, here, after multiple watch, there is no cheap trick to be found. For a guy who loves analysing and nitpick on details, I was pleasantly surprised by what they did. No worry, I am a cinephile, I've watched them all car chases. I know what I'm talking about.

People just know the big tank-like or fantastical Batmobiles and forget that early ones were just modified real-life cars. Like the original 1939 Batmobile, which was just a red 1930's 2-seater with a bat hood ornament. It was described as custom-built, but still.

The Batmobile is a beast. A damn, scary beast. The engine is similar to the Xenomorph when attacks, pure horror. I like how we see the chase from Oz's point of view, the dispair, the terror and the false feeling of being safe. He's being chased by the apex predator.
